The Neighborhood:
Safe, residential, tree-lined street in Portland's hottest neighborhood! Lovely and quiet, but just a few blocks from the newest section built up on Division St! A short walk will take you to food cart pods in two directions (50th and Division St. and Carts on Foster.) Also Green Zebra grocery, Plaid Pantry (convenience store), Good Coffee, Fern Kitchen, Petite Provence Patisserie, North Bar, Landmark Saloon, Los Gorditos, Bete Lukas (Ethiopian), Tokio Table (Japanese Hibachi), Siri Thai, and so much more! Keep walking west on Division, and you will hit everything on Portland's "Restaurant Row", including Tasty and Daughters, Pok Pok, Ava Gene's Salt n Straw, etc! The Richmond district is one of the most exciting and diverse neighborhoods in Southeast Portland. A longer stroll will take you to the Hawthorne District, which is not technically a designated neighborhood- but the locals all know where it is. The Hawthorne area is packed with trendy shops, restaurants, cafes, book stores, thrift stores, massage, tattoo, and other things unique and creative. It’s a very alternative neighborhood. You will also be walking distance to several parks... the best being Mount Tabor, where you can catch one of the best sunsets in Portland! If you have a child, there is a lovely playground on top of the extinct volcano.
You have probably wondered if Portland is really like the show Portlandia. Come to this neighborhood and decide for yourself. It is a great place to people watch, and everything is eclectic! From the clothing stores to the restaurants.
I think an interesting quote that tells a lot about the atmosphere and lifestyle of Richmond, is taken from travelportland.com "The area is a grid of alternating residential blocks and commercial streets, offering an amazing balance of the best of Old Portland architecture, mature tree-lines streets, and easy access to the most popular gathering spots, the Hawthorne and Division districts. There seem to be more unique and colorful bungalows along the streets in Richmond than in any other area in town, and the density of amazing restaurants, coffee shops, bars, bookstores, theaters, and boutiques is unsurpassed. Less than 2 miles to Portland Providence Hospital.
Getting Around:
This is the absolute best location for public transit! The #71 (which runs north-south) is only one block away, and the #9 (east-west) is just a few blocks away, and both run frequently. Trimet can take you anywhere in the city, and is a quick way to get downtown. This location is also incredibly bike-friendly and a walker's paradise. It has a bike score of 100 and a walk score of 90! I lived in Richmond without a car for many years, so your visit can be wonderful without a car, too.
