Winter 2026 update! Great Lakes water level has receded to historic lows and not sure what spring thaw and ice melt will bring once ice is gone. There may be a large sandy and rocky beach. The dock location (currently off the seawall) may change as well.

The Sunset Cottage is waiting to receive guests who demand the finest in accommodations the area has to offer in waterfront living! This home has 3400 square feet of premium quality interior living space on 3 completely furnished levels offering every amenity to make your stay in Suttons Bay comfortable and memorable! There are 4 over sized sleeping rooms with 4 all tile baths (3 are en suite), 2 complete kitchens with full size Stainless appliances (one kitchen serves as a more formal one while the lower level kitchen acts as a summer one adjacent to the 400 square foot out door living/dining area), living room, dining room, family room; and the additional aforementioned pergola 400 square feet outdoor decking plus 2 upper level decks overlooking the azure waters of Suttons Bay. A dock with sunning platform completes the home.

Right off this patio lies a small sandy beach with shallow swimming prior to the water drop off and offering the most spectacular evening sunsets overlooking the twinkling lights of the village across the bay! Out your back door lies rural 40 mph Stony Point Road ideal for all kinds of physical fitness: bike riding, walking, jogging, inline skating or whatever your passion! The house is close to shopping and restaurants and an excellent coffee place. The house is right on the bay with a small beach and easy access to the water. The kitchens (2) are well equipped. Amazing property in the most beautiful location

This house has everything you need to make your visit to Sutton's Bay, Michigan fantastic. We rented kayaks for the weekend, had them delivered right to the house, and kayaked for a few hours each morning. The house is right in the protected Bay, perfect for kayaking. Gorgeous sunsets, 5 minutes from town.

Perfect Summer Vacation

We had a wonderful vacation at the Sunset Cottage. It was described exactly as we found it to be. The sunset views each night were spectacular. All amenities were in great shape. We used the fire pit, hot tub, beach, gas BBQ, patio and porch for our family vacation. We brought bicycles with us and went on some long and short rides. The Sunset Cottage is the perfect place for relaxing, too. The owner has thought of everything to make the vacationers comfortable.

Fabulous home, beautiful setting

Our stay at this Sutton's Bay home was fabulous! And I do mean this is a "home," not a "property." Four couples had plenty of room to hang out, whether in the living room, on the lower level, patio or dock, we had all we needed and great water views, too. Care has been taken to decorate the home, with personal mementos and photos. The landscaping is beautiful as well. The area was quiet for walking and for stargazing -- but also close to the adorable town of Sutton's Bay and its restaurants and shops. We took advantage of the location to explore Sleeping Bear Dunes, Fishtown, Grand Traverse Bay Lighthouse, Old Mission Peninsula and Traverse City. We visited area restaurants (enjoyed 45th Parallel Cafe and others) and wineries (so many, so close). In other words, we had a great time in Michigan! Thank you for opening your home to us!

Well maintained home, perfect for groups!

I cannot say enough good things about this home. From its functional layout to its proximity to Traverse City and Suttons Bay, it all made our stay very enjoyable. 3 couples stayed in the home, so we didn't use the basement level (which has its own kitchen and large bedroom with multiple beds). We all had our own ensuite bathrooms and the home was well equipped with all the little luxuries of home, beverage cooler, keurigs, etc. Its not a rental where all you get is a coffee pot and can opener. There are several dishwashers, which made cleanup after meals super easy. The water was still too cold to really go swimming, but the beach area is nice and the water is shallow, so it would be great for small children or floating around on a raft. Overall great house for entertaining while having privacy if you're staying with a group.

Making Memories: A Home Away From Home

This property is an absolute gem! Consider staying here without hesitation. Reluctant to encourage bookings to avoid it being fully booked in the future. Returned for the second year, extended stay by two days due to wanting more. Picturesque views from the exquisite home along the water's edge are unparalleled. Each room maximizes natural light and breathtaking views. Waking up in the morning feels like perching above the water. Family room area is surrounded by windows for an immersive experience. The house is equipped with more amenities than any vacationer could possibly need. It is safe to say that we have developed a deep affection for this home. We had a great wine tour with Grand Traverse Tours and rented jet skis from PlayNorth Watersports, enjoying the water. PlayNorth Watersports was great to work with. Tom, our host, was as exceptional as always, readily available to answer any questions and provide valuable guidance throughout our stay. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise.

My family (including my immdiate family of 5 along with both sets of grandparents) arrived on the first Saturday of July 2012. I was looking for a place where 9 people could have enoght space AND enjoy each other's company. Well, I found it in this rental!! The house was amazing and the outdoor areas made the stay exactly what we wanted it to be. We ate dinner there several nights using the SECOND full gormet kitchen in the lower level with patio right outside the door. The grill was great and the granite patio table allowed all 9 of us to sit around the table together which is very important to us. At home when the temp was 100+ degrees we were in Sutton's Bay outside of this home building a fire and sitting around a circle with blankets and roasting marshmellows. We shot off fireworks one night and I have never seen stars so bright and clear as from the third floor master bedroom balcony sitting outside at the end of the night enjoying a drink with my husband and feeling so blessed to have found a house we can enjoy with our parents and children. The shopping in Sutton's Bar is great. Sutton's Bay is the perfect place to make day trips from. We went around to different areas each day and went to the Cherry festival a couple times as well. I highly recommend this property especially if you are used to upscale accomodations as myself and family are.

Wonderful house right on the bay!

Our group came up for a winery tour and loved this house! Spectacular views, 2 outside fireplaces, and so much room. We socialized upstairs around the very large dining table and also downstairs watching a football game. Downstairs had a 2nd full kitchen with walkout to an amazing sitting area with fire table. Huge windows overlooking the bay. The host was wonderful and house is stocked up and down with everything you need. Needless to say, we had an amazing weekend!
