About the host
Hosted by Melody Stewart

We are originally from Massachusetts and Maine. We met in the middle in New Hampshire, married and had two daughters, both of whom are grown with children of their own. Our oldest daughter still lives in Louisville KY. Our other is in Tampa. We fell in love with St Augustine FL on our very first visit and came back nearly every year until we moved here from Louisville in 2016. We own ValuLink Technology Solutions, a telecom business we can operate from anywhere and which gives us the freedom to travel. We took up residence when things locked down in 2020 and from there emerged what will be an aggressive, two-year renovation plan. Phase one completed in January & February 2022, with Phase 2 planned for Fall and Phase 3 completing in early 2023. We’re doing exactly what every leasing agent advised us not to do – we’re renovating it as though we were moving in, not just doing minimal upgrades designed to create pretty pictures for a rental website. It’s what we expect when we travel. It’s what our guests deserve. Troops stationed in Afghanistan call the Sunshine State’s namesake “BOB” (big orange ball). BOB’s in residence here the vast majority of the time, but we do get rain and occasionally have an overcast day. The beach remains beautiful, either way. Vilano beach is a surfboarder/boogieboarder’s paradise, yet the surf can be so calm you struggle to believe it’s the Atlantic Ocean as you watch dolphins and their winged friends fish and play. We’ve come to know some of the surfers. They too are fun to watch and most times if you ask, you’ll find they’re willing to talk about their adventures. Vilano isn’t just beautiful. It’s friendly. We love sharing what we have with others, and we hope you enjoy your stay. And please do let us or Melody know if there’s anything missing in our Paradise Ocean House or what we can do to make it a more inviting place to get away. We will do our absolute best to make your stay as comfortable as possible!
Why they chose this property
We’ve traveled extensively throughout North America and the Caribbean primarily. One of our favorite spots and go-to destinations before discovering St Augustine was Xpu-Ha, Mexico. Back then it consisted of miles of pristine beach with just 14 total overnight accommodation along its entire length. It was the perfect staging spot for a beach bunny and her scuba diving husband. Today it’s known as Riviera Maya and it's deserted no more. Right after construction began there, we came to St Augustine to visit relatives who had just moved to the area from the West Coast and the rest is history. Our love of the sun, sand and sea led us to acquire Paradise Ocean House in 2012, It was beautiful then in an old Florida, peach and teal sort of way. We started doing updates right away, but since we were only able to get back to Florida a couple times a year, the projects tended to be small so they could be completed during a stay. In 2015 we decided to relocate ourselves and our business to St Augustine permanently. From day one, we’d envisioned the beach property as our future retirement home, but the decision to come South with business in tow required us to either convert the beach property into something we’d never want it to become or find a different accommodation. We did the latter and it has worked out perfectly. We’re able to still share the beach property with our many friends and treasured guests, yet we’re close enough to enjoy it ourselves whenever it’s open.
