About this property
Quiet, private nature retreat with pool and ocean views.
Large home on 11 acres surrounded by nature with a pool and ocean views. Need to get away from it all but want the comforts of home? Relax on the deck, cool off in the pool, enjoy the sounds of birds from either of 2 screened in porches, or relax in the airconditioned comfort of the living areas. Rooms are arranged on two floors with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms upstairs and one bedroom and bath on the ground floor. Birdwatchers will see all of Cayman's woodland birds and seasonal migrants at home in the forest of native trees and plants. The wetlands below attract wading birds and local and seasonal ducks. Opportunities for exploring abound or just enjoy the pace of life in this peaceful village. A 3 minute walk and you are on the North Coast beach with superb snorkeling, fishing and shelling. A short drive away are restaurants, stores, watersports and natural attractions including caves and the botanic park.
"A perfect naturalist’s hideaway unique to Grand Cayman
This spacious house, owned by naturalist and photographer Frank Roulstone, sits on a forested hilltop on Grand Cayman’s Northeast coast overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The property is primary forest on karst limestone with many endemic plant species and other rare regional plants including West Indian Cedar, Ironwood and the Wild Banana orchid.
The galleries around the home are one of the best places on Grand Cayman to identify and photograph the 13 endemic species of land birds including parrots, woodpeckers, vireos, and bullfinches as well as migrants from August to May with 60 species recorded.
Across from the property are beaches with excellent snorkeling and seasonal nesting sites for 3 species of sea turtles.
I cannot recommend this site more, it is spectacular.

Mrs. Bradley has authored several field guides and natural history books, and a British Ornithologists’ Union checklist. She is a founding and Life member of the Cayman Islands National Trust, chairing and serving on its Environmental Advisory Committee, and she has served many years on the Cayman Government’s National Conservation Council."

About the host
Hosted by Frank Roulstone
Welcome to my island! I have grown up in hospitality, my grandparents opened one of the original hotel properties in the Cayman Islands (Seaview Lodge). My parents continued the tradition with exclusive short-term rentals on the northern end of seven mile beach (Nautilus Apartments). Now with my children out of the house, and having just completed an extensive renovation, I am offering our family home for your enjoyment. I am an avid naturalist and photographer with a particular interest in orchids and spend as much time as possible exploring our small islands. I am happy to make recommendations based on my experience and will never offer advice that is commission-based. I live on island and can be available as much or as little as you prefer. I love my home and look forward to sharing it with you!
Why they chose this property
Our home offers absolute privacy and has lots of space to relax. We designed and built the home with lots of windows to enjoy the natural wonders of the surroundings. It is close to many attractions and services and there is much to explore just a short walk or drive away. It is centrally airconditioned and there are two screened-in porches and large sun deck should you want to take in the warm ocean air. The kitchen is fully equipped with range, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher, plus all the little things I need when I travel (like a coffee maker!). The living/dining/kitchen great room has a large smart TV, small library of local interest books, couch, love seat & recliner, seating for 6 at the dining room table and another 6 at the giant kitchen island. There are 4 bedrooms all with Queen beds each with side tables and reading lights. Toilets are all "comfort" height and only top brand paper products are included. An ideal location for family get-togethers, yoga retreat, girls trip, bird watching or just a "need to get away".
What makes this property unique
Very few properties are available which offer the privacy and quiet of Stonegate. The property itself is 11 acres and thankfully many of the surrounding properties remain undeveloped. There is lots to do nearby but you can always retreat to your private space after a day of exploring and soak your cares away in the pool, or in the hammocks of the upstairs porch.
