The Bear’s Den was originally named as The Crow’s Nest in 1965 when our parents bought the property. The Crows Nest originated with a one room cabin for two parents and five kids, two still in diapers. For heat on those cold Montana summer days, we had a wood burning stove named Hazel, pumped all our water from the lake, Mom cooked and baked on a wood stove along with doing massive loads of laundry using an old washing machine and clothes lines. As time progressed our parents moved the original cabin, dug a well, and a new outhouse to make room for a new home.
Later our parents renamed the property The Bear’s Den after our Dad became fascinated with a local artist named Jeff Fleming and his animated wood bear carvings which you will notice on the outside and inside of the cottage. It has been a summer destination for our family and has created a lifetime of memories for four generations!
