About this property

Central Coast , Meadow, Great Roads, Wildlife, Hot-Tub, Polite Pets Welcome

PLEASE IDENTIFY YOUR SELF IF YOU ARE AN EVACUEE Above the fog line yet an easy drive to beach, town, and all major highways this one-level house (Vacation Rental Permit # 11159 expires 9/15/2025) has a detached office and garage with electric car port and overlooks a gorgeous private meadow surrounded by forest with distant views of the coastal mountains. A monumental 350-year-old coastal oak tree (10,000 sq ft canopy) shades an enormous deck that transitions to multiple gardens on 2 1/2 acres. The open floor plan surrounds the chef's kitchen. Spending time in the hot tub, the meadow room with char-pit or outdoor garden shower are guest favorites. Upland vistas are a short hike, where as, world class destinations like San Fransisco, Carmel, Monterey, Cupertino and Oakland are all easy day trips. Tucked up against the Zyante Sand Hills Habitat and the Quail Hollow Ranch Equestrian Park wildlife on parade is the norm. Swimming holes are near, as is the fabulous salt-water pool and club house at the Trout Farm Inn. Some of the best music venues found in the central coast are hidden gems on the mountains.

House:
-The master's suite contains a large four-poster bed, a free-standing gas fireplace, and a low-curb walk-in stone tile shower.
-The guest room has a comfortable pillow-top queen bed and a little extra storage.
-The third bedroom is quite small containing a bunk bed plus the pullout trundle (all three are single beds). Our smallest fans will find a toy box under the desk in the closet.
-You will find a hide-a-sofa in the living room. Your teen might enjoy the vinyl collection and turntable and incredibly fast internet connection.

Detached Office:
-The executive office contains a large work table, printer and comfortable sitting area can be available with advanced arrangement for a fee. Larger satellite conference rooms are just two miles down the hill.

Yard:
-The hidden kitchen garden is protected by tall deer fence, planted with fresh vegetables of the season, herbs, and fruit. Please help us by keeping the gate closed and the deer out.
-The meditation area, with Buddha house and fountain, is a great place to read or enjoy a private conversation.
-The meadow room, built from the tops of redwood trees and a floor of Santa Fe slate is surrounded by beautifully maintained landscaping. There is a fully screened fire pit with this roasting rack to melt dessert or grill the late-night bite.
-Hot tub and Garden Shower are romantic and a fun way to end the day.
We are situated 10 Miles to downtown Santa Cruz and the Municipal Wharf and Beaches but only steps to the amazing world only found in the Santa Cruz Mountains:
-Zyante Sandhills Conservation Habitat
-Historic Quail Hollow Ranch Park
-Henry Cowell Redwood State Park
Within the San Lorenzo Valley you will discover:

About the host

Hosted by Lolly and Lindley

Host profile image
Architecture, Anthropology, the Sea, and History; we love to travel. Our family enjoyed the central coast region for more than a century. Professor Emeritus after teaching the History of Architecture for 43 years, Lindley has been collecting faux columns to erect a folly in the woods. Lolly laid down her trowel and scuba tanks due to a change in health and stamina but is never bored. We met working on an underwater excavation in the Levant and spent three decades exploring the world together with an occasional respite. Please feel free to explore our library at the house

Ben Lomond is a place that defines California Central Coast living at its best. The line between indoor and outdoor living spaces dissolve. Now you have the chance to enjoy our hard work great neighbors, trails, and access to everything on the central coast including the zip line at Mt Herman as you move from platform to platform through the treetop canopy.

Why they chose this property

Many of our neighbors have shared this short private road for more that 40 years. The Oak Tree is AMAZING, as are the hundreds birds daily who come to rest and feed on acorns. We chose this property partly because of the open flat sunny meadow surrounded by forests with distant mountain views and partly because the geology is as varied in each direction as the potential activities nearby.

If you are looking for crowds, noise, fog, and traffic -- you will not find it here. We are tranquility, blue skies, white fluffy clouds, bird song, deer, wild turkeys and brilliant starlight. Once in the house you may not want to leave but the redwood forests, beaches, and cities of San Francisco, Monterey, Carmel, San Jose, Palo Alto and Sunnyvale are all with in reach.

On the mountain, two miles from our country retreat is a venue for quality music at the Felton Music Hall, or Henfling's, both serving casual fare. For a little more local color you might want to check out the Old Log Cabin Bar (sometimes there is a friendly Macaw or a 3 legged dog). Legendary are the ghosts that haunt the main dining room of the Brookdale Lodge, a place I visited for the first time with my grand-mother in 1965. There is a brook running through the terraced dining room (currently being remodeled).

Fishing license and small craft rentals are available at Loch Lomond or the Santa Cruz Wharf as well as other places around the county we can help you find.

What makes this property unique

The outdoor meadow room, the fruit trees, grape vines, herbal garden, and a meditation zone are all created for you to have the best possible mountain experience. Enjoy your barbecue on the deck or patio under the shelter of the pergola and stars.

Behind the property you will find Quail Hollow Ranch, an equestrian park first developed by the founders of Sunset Magazine as their weekend home. The trails around the ranch lead you past a pond, year round streams and a host of wildlife. The sunset trail above our home leads to a panorama vista overlooking the coast and nearby valleys.

The rich and varied history of the region is recognized as one of the most significant biological treasures in the state of California, the Zyante Sandhills Zone support a unique community of plants and animals found only in Santa Cruz County.

We are close to many state parks and the redwood trees beaches and fun and creative shopping areas. We look forward to sharing our list of fun places to play and eat; however, if you are not able to escape leave work, satellite conference rooms and office space is available within two miles.
