Our family had a great stay at Farm Bear Lodge. We loved the location and the amenities provided. The location was easy to get to and not far from town.
Was awesome. Spent most of the time at casino but when we were at the house there were fun games to play and the host made sure property is in great shape. Will definitely stay again.
This is my 2nd time staying at this place and both time where wonderful. The cabin is beautiful, clean and theres plenty to do. This is perfect for group trips with friend and families with children. My friends and I had a wonderful time.
The home was exactly as described, with plenty of space to accommodate the varied ages of family members and included many entertainment options for all ages. The drive to the property was easy and convenient to town. We would visit this propery again.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Disliked: Listing accuracy
Spacious home, great location
Overall no issues. Plenty of space for our large group. Only problem was in the listing, it advertised an additonal queen bed in one of the down stairs bed rooms, however it had been replaced by 2 twins. That was slightly disappointing since that extra queen was a big draw for us and meant one of the adults had to squeeze into a twin. Really just a simple listing correction. Had a great stay and would stay again
Good location to town, good amount of room, just in need of some tlc
The home does not have a fireplace even though the link provided in the checkin email states it does as well as the welcome binder in the house. The downstairs is freezing since the only thermostat is upstairs. The master bedroom doesn’t have blinds or curtains so it is very bright in the morning and unable to sleep in. All of the towels were damp when we arrived so we had to take them all down and dry them. The kitchen table was still dirty so we had to clean that when we arrived. None of the leaves were sweeper off of the decking which was dangerous hazard causing the steps to be very slick so we had to take care of that as well. The hot tub was not working properly but the owner quickly responded to help us troubleshoot the issue unfortunately took it a day to warm up once we figured it out. The vacuum doesn’t work so we were unable to vacuum up the rug while we were there. The garage door is broken, the assembly has come off the wall.
There isn’t a good view but it is very close to town which was helpful. The place provided many kitchen utensils which was nice.

Thank you for the feedback on this review. I do wish that we had been notified about the cleaning and leaf concerns during your stay as our caretakers do take great pride in their work and efforts and try very hard to make sure the house is ready for each guest. We usually get high praise about them. We do not claim or advertise either the garage or a fireplace as an amenity on any booking website. We do have a firepit outside and are looking into plans for a fireplace, but we did not advertise one to this guest in their decision to book our home. This is a second home and we use the garage for personal storage and do not count it in the parking options. We may consider this in the future but have not had a request for it. Thank you for your feedback about not feeling comfortable with the temperature variations with the thermostat. We have taken this feedback seriously and have purchased additional heaters for every bedroom in order to allow the guests to better regulate the temperature that makes each of them comfortable. I greatly enjoy the view of the mountains being straight out from the cabin as it makes me feel like I'm in the midst of them. The sunrise view over the mountains along with the sound of Lands Creek down below and proximity to town and the national park entrance is why we chose this property for our family. This is our mountain home, and we love to share it with others and do our best to provide a great experience and value.
The home, amenities, location, view and owner were all super! We could not have been more please with our experience and stay. We plan to return we we can!
Comfortable rooms, lots of space, fun games, hot tub for after hiking in the National park, great view from the deck - everything you need to enjoy the mountains!
We had an excellent time at the cabin. It was minutes away from the town we visit each year and very cozy. We had plenty of room for our party of 13 people.

About the host
Hosted by Matthew McGee
Three Little Bears Retreat was inspired by a lifelong love for nature, adventure, and connection. As an avid backpacker and hiker, I’ve had the privilege of exploring the far corners of the world—from the remote mountain trails of Patagonia and Kilimanjaro to vibrant cultural hubs in Brazil and Thailand, and from rustic cabins to luxurious lodges and resorts. The experience I gained from these places and cultures instilled a dream to one day create my own resort, and I believe that the inspiration of the warmth of a remote village guesthouse in the Himalayas, the thoughtful design of eco-lodges in Central America, and the communal spirit of a safari camp in Africa all have their place in the design and creation of this Retreat.
Why they chose this property
Our retreat rests alongside a pivotal piece of history—the site of the first deed given to Horace Kephart for the formation of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park on Lands Creek. Kephart came to Bryson City and the Smoky Mountains seeking solace in a place he deemed "the back of beyond," and then fought for its preservation as a national park through his work as a writer and as the foremost outdoorsman of his time. Inspired by his vision, we too see this land as something to be cherished and protected. Through our sustainability initiatives, we strive to honor his legacy by preserving and regenerating the natural environment that makes this place so extraordinary.
While the Park now preserves the beauty of the mountains, this land carries the memory of sacrifices made by families whose homes once stood within its boundaries. Generations later, their stories of resilience remain woven into the fabric of these hills, shaping our community’s spirit. To ensure that future generations can enjoy this landscape, we commit to practices that restore the land, conserve resources, and support the biodiversity of these mountains.
Even here, where the forest whispers its age-old songs, we remember that this land was first home to the Cherokee Nation. Their deep understanding of and respect for the environment inspire our own efforts to live in harmony with nature. The Cherokee principles of balance and stewardship guide many of our sustainability practices.
"Here, in the Back of Beyond, life moves to the rhythm of the mountains, not the ticking of a clock." -Horace Kephart
What makes this property unique
At Three Little Bears Retreat, we honor the histories of the mountains and the Cherokee People while creating a space where stories can be shared, bonds strengthened, and memories made—all with a commitment to leaving the land better than we found it. Our retreat spaces are designed not only to bring people together but also to minimize their environmental footprint. From our use of energy efficient technology and eco-friendly materials to our initiatives in reforesting and wildlife rehabilitation and preservation, every aspect of our retreat is crafted with care for the environment.
We also love that the location of our retreat offers endless, easy access opportunities for adventure. From hiking and fishing to tubing and exploring hidden waterfalls, the Smokies are a playground for the curious and the bold. For those who prefer a slower pace, the trails and streams surrounding the retreat, the Road to Nowhere, and Deep Creek invite quiet reflection and a chance to recharge. As you explore, know that each visit contributes to our ongoing efforts to preserve this landscape through trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and pollution reduction projects.
"In the school of the woods, there is no graduation day." --Horace Kephart
At Three Little Bears Retreat, every stay is an invitation to be part of something bigger: a fellowship that bridges past and present, a respite from the demands of daily life, an adventure in reconnecting with what truly matters, and a commitment to nurturing the environment we all share.
"Preserve, study, absorb, revere, and enjoy the primeval woods before its too late." --Horace Kephart
