About this property

Large, fantastic house on the Schuss Mtn slopes, space for family/friends/dogs

This place is a year-round treat! Our place is located near the top of Schuss Mountain in an area that is close to many outdoor activities: boating (Torch Lake and many others is less than 10 miles), golfing (Shuss Mtn course is ~2 miles, Shanty Creek courses are ~5 miles, and there are many others in the area), kayaking (Paddle Antrim / Chain of Lakes with a 99 mile water trail is less than 10 miles), hiking and biking (Glacial Hills and many other trails are all over the area).

In the summer, it is vibrantly green with temperatures that are frequently very comfortable, and bugs are usually quite manageable. The deck and windows from the living room have amazing views of the valley. The house faces southeast-ish and many mornings have amazing sunrises, although they are very early this time of year.

The house sleeps 14-16. It has 5 bedrooms (all are nearly the same dimensions), 3 bathrooms (one with a tub, two with walk-in showers), 3 separate living/family rooms (all with TVs), a pretty well outfitted kitchen (we provide many small appliances and a good mix of bakeware, pots & pans, etc.), and a nice kitchenette. All bathrooms were refreshed this spring, featuring new ceramic tile floors and vanities, and the whole house has new carpet. It has a large deck with a grill available (next remodeling project is updates to the deck). We have a remote workspace with high-speed internet and equipment (extra monitor, keyboard, mouse, & printer) available. The house is also air conditioned.

There is ample parking, with space for 7-8 or more vehicles. The driveway is relatively long, and it has a loop turnaround. We've stored our boat (21' ski boat) in the garage for years. Many renters have brought boats and kept them in the driveway during their stay. It is worth noting that we've been told it can be difficult to navigate the loop for those towing very long boats.

In the winter, our ski-in / ski-out, which is a short walk down our driveway and right next to our firepit, is accessible to Queen's Corner / Belle's Bottom on the Schuss pink lift. The living room overlooks the slopes so non-skiers can watch the action while staying warm! For those willing to brave the cold, the large deck overlooks Belle’s Bottom and the fire pit next to the ski in/out are other great places to hang out and watch skiers.

Winter is magical here. Schuss in in the norther Michigan snowbelt and lots of the white, fluffy stuff contributes to the beauty. Enjoy stunning sunrises overlooking the surrounding valley and amazing sunsets thru the trees to the west.

This property is close to Short’s Pub in Bellaire and Shanty Creek Resorts. It is centrally located, with Traverse City, Petoskey, Gaylord and Charlevoix all between 35-45 minutes. Torch Lake and the Chain-o-Lakes are all very close.

This house does not have a Shanty Creek pool pass.

We love this area and we purchase this house in 2017 as our family, ski vacation get-away. Life changes over the last couple of years made it possible for us to buy our dream home and move north. As much as I love our new home, purchasing another place was a difficult decision because this one at Schuss has so many fine points.

Tracey grew-up in Central Lake. If you have questions about the area, feel free to ask!

We both work in Information Technology, we have three dogs (shelties) and adult two sons. We love to be outdoors and find this part of Northern Michigan to be a perfect fit for us.

We own and manage this property ourselves.

Why they chose this property

We love this property for many reason: ski-in/ski-out, the view, sunrises, hiking on the ski hills, winters, the pleasant summer temperatures and being outside, hanging out on the deck, hammocking down the hill a bit in the back yard, the firepit, easy access to T.C., Petoskey, and Gaylord, plenty of space in the house ... I can go on and on.

What makes this property unique

Ski-in/ski-out is definitely a big benefit (there are a relatively small number of such places on the Schuss slopes), but it's the view and amazing sunrises that make this place really stand out. The size of the place and the separate living spaces make it possible for larger groups to spread out during their stay.
