FISHING
Great fishing can be had right off your dock on Upper and Lower Herring Lake. Please catch and release, especially on Lower and Upper Herring Lakes. For fishermen who like to cast near Lake Michigan, both Frankfort and Elberta have fishing piers on Lake Betsie, which is essentially Frankfort Harbor. It is known for salmon, brown trout, steelhead, smallmouth bass, and catfish.
On calm days, locals like to fish from the north and south cement breakwater piers that reach way out into Lake Michigan.
The Frankfort Tackle Box on Main St has bait, tackle, licenses and great advice. For salmon, lake trout and steelhead charters, I recommend Power Trip or Tiny Bubbles.

This property was very clean! The location was close to many walking and hiking trails. The lake was beautiful and there was a nice sandy little beach. We would stay again!
Great communications with host & very prompt to solve issues or answered questions. SUP, kayaks, row boats & lilly pad provided were big deciding factors for us. We had a great time enjoying these amenities.
Pete was a big help with us being new to VRBO was a great location newly remodeled, very clean and pretty inside .loved the quiet lake front and towns were close . We plan to go back to fish hopefully this fall .
The paddle boards and canoes on the lake made the trip really fun for teenagers. Right on a nice lake so it’s shallow enough to explore and also swim out deeper and much warmer than Lake Michigan which is close enough to drive back and forth from easily.

Easy in. Place is clean with some kitchen products, dishes, etc.
Nice small cottage on quiet lake. Family enjoyed the outside activities: kid kayaks, paddle boards, floating raft, lily pad and fire pit. Water is warm and shallow, nice for younger kids. Close enough to local sights. Comfortable beds. AC worked well. Would come again.
Loved the property. Very Clean. Great communication with host. Just a note, door to enter is not visible from parking area. It’s across from unit 4 front door.
My daughter and I only stayed for two nights but it was perfect. Adorable cabin. Adorable set up. Close to everything. The owner came by to welcome us our first night there. Can’t want to visit again!!
We loved our stay. We visited Frankfort and went to Sleeping Bear which was a 40 min drive away. The rest of the time we spent on the lake and enjoyed Kayaking. We had to share with other people but they where all really nice. That wasnt an issue at all. Overall we plan to come back again next year.
Had a great stay. Went up for the fall colors and checked out a couple lighthouses and was close to town. Since Mother Nature didn't cooperate, we didn't really use the lake or property.
Great place that has been fully updated and clean. It was nice to have free WIFI at this location. The lake was fantastic and had everything we needed. Owner was easy to contact and responded in a timely manner. We will be back.
Newly updated (and not quite fully outfitted) very nice place. Small bedrooms but comfortable beds. Nice kitchen and living room with Roku TV and beautiful view of lake. Excellent internet. But best of all are the kayaks and assorted boats and outdoor lounging furniture, including a dock and a foam pad out on the lake. This part of the lake is very shallow--we walked out to the foam pad to hang out there. Very nice hiking nearby and very close to Lake Michigan. Beautiful sunsets. Host quickly responded to a call when needed.
Great cottage to visit the area, bike ride on the Betsie trail, see light houses, alpaca farm or heading to Frankfort for dinner or sit by the lake.
Nice lake view from cottage, quiet, very comfortable, everything new. Already mentioned to owner some suggestions. Was able to grill and enjoy eating outside. Our cottage was attached to another and no one was in the other for 2 nights, after others arrived, it wasn’t as quiet, but that was our last night, so it was manageable. We would definitely come back to this location.
Nicely updated and clean. Enjoyed many of the amenities onsite; kayaking, grilled out, sat on the deck to watch sunset and gaze at the multitude of stars in the night sky. We were very close to other points of interest; Frankfort, Crystal Lake, Beulah, Sleeping Bear dunes, Traverse City and many sandy beaches to choose from. I highly recommend this location, we felt nothing was lacking in our little cabin for the week. They even added more dock and seating while we were there. We do have one request of the owners, think about adding a fire pit for evening smores. Thank you for your attention to the little things, this made out trip enjoyable.
Beautiful cabin right on the lake. Cabins are brand new inside and amazing!
We had a wonder full time in this cabin. Easy check in and out. Everything was clean, beautiful and pretty well brand new. Plenty of kayaks and paddle boards for everyone. Thank you to our hosts for the lovely accommodations.
Upper Herring Lake is beautiful and tranquil, very little boat traffic if any. Half of the shoreline is in the Upper Herring Lake Nature Preserve. 8 SUPs, 4 tandem kayaks, 4 kiddo kayaks and rowboats provided for your use.
