House was not clean. Strong smell as we walked in and noticed it was the fireplace that had not been cleaned out so we did that, the master bedroom bedding was dirty so I had to wash that, the dryer didn’t dry well so it took much longer than it should have to dry the bedding, the master bedroom shower was extremely dirty and moldy. I contacted the property manager about the condition of the house and all I was told was they’d pass it on to the cleaning crew but unfortunately it wasn’t taken care of during our 4 day stay. It wasn’t a very comfortable stay to say the least. I will not ever rent from them again and I would never recommend anyone rent this place.

The photos you attached appear to be zoomed-in shots of random parts of the cabin, which — to be honest — comes across as a bit nitpicky. It’s also clear that some of those photos were taken after the cabin had already been used, so they don’t accurately reflect how the space was presented at check-in.
We understand that everyone’s expectations can differ, but our cleaning team consistently receives positive feedback, and we stand by the condition of the cabin prior to your arrival. Still, we appreciate you sharing your perspective and wish you the best in your future travels.
It is a very beautiful house with plenty of room for all 6 of us two bedrooms with King size beds and the third room has two bunk beds in it. and very secluded, it's like you got the whole mountain to yourself, a beautiful hot tub area positioned just a very short walk up the road in the side of the mountain with lights all around, on the porch right off the living room is a outside theatre area. The owners are very quick to respond to every question we had. I would definitely recommend this home for your family get away, and we will be back again.
The “Modern Bear home” has everything you need to relax, prepare meals, and entertain your family. The home boosts three bedroom rooms with 4 comfortable bunks in one of the bedrooms. The remaining two bedrooms have huge King beds. The beds have memory component and you will be well rested. The living area is well decorated with a modern essence, but the cabin feel is still maintained. There is plenty room to gather with the family. In fact there is a huge two car garage game space that will give the family an opportunity to host a friendly competition. The water is hot and the internet is fast. The main bedroom has spa soaking tub. The owner spared no expense on this beautiful cabin. Get ready to leave your troubles at home and relax. The hosts were friendly and only a phone call away. Check in was a nightmare
We checked into our cabin at 4, it had not been cleaned from the previous people that stayed. No contact from our host after 4 attempts for 3 hours. We had to go buy cleaning supplies and clean the cabin ourselves and had to wash all the sheets, blankets, and towels ourselves. We had driven 4 hours and could not relax on our first night due to having to clean the entire cabin and wash all the linens. We were told after 3 hours that they were sorry and the cleaning crew had an emergency, but yet there was no communication to us. The cabin was beautiful but not how we wanted to spend our first day considering we were only there for a weekend.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and we are truly sorry for what happened during your stay. There is no excuse for arriving to an uncleaned home after a 4 hour drive, you deserved better and we completely own that.
The lack of communication for 3 hours while you were waiting and then cleaning the cabin yourselves is inexcusable. A cleaning emergency should never become a guest emergency. You should have been contacted immediately with a clear plan, not left wondering for hours after driving all day to get there.
Since this stay we have completely rebuilt our communication and cleaning systems. Every turnover now has a dedicated inspection and photo verification process completed before check-in is ever released. If anything ever affects a guest's arrival time or experience our team is required to communicate proactively and immediately, not reactively hours later.
No guest should ever spend their first night cleaning a home they paid to enjoy. Your feedback was heard, it was painful to receive, and it made us significantly better hosts for every guest who came after you.
We would genuinely love the opportunity to make this right and show you the experience you deserved from the very beginning.

Very run down looking, furniture old and dirty looking. They tried to do some remodeling like newer kitchen and newer bath fixtures. ABSOLUTELY in no man's land. No view, ut is pushed right against and embankment sieds and back. NO VIEW. Hot tub is up the inclined road apart from cabin. I would be very afraid for bears to come around while I was out there especially in the dark. Front steps were dirty looking, debris, junk. Game room in the garage was very very dirty. Looked like something out if 80s picture movie. So disappointed and scared safety wise, that we left the very next evening. We didn't even feel safe staying one more night. It was not a happy place to be in!

We are sad to see that the same things that most of our guests LOVE about our property, are the ones you complain about: isolated, privacy, outdoor hot tub steps away from house, game room with 80s theme (The Ninja Turtle, Pac Man, etc). Our furniture is less than a year old and just like you mentioned, our cabin was remodeled about 6 months ago with new fixture, new kitchen, new linen and towels. Every furniture in the house can be seen in our photos as they are less than 2 months old. We continuously improve our cabin: we just finished replacing all our pots and pans for the kitchen.
The cabin seats in almost 2 acres of mountain and our guests really enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. It’s not one of those cabins where you can see your neighbor from the kitchen window but at the same time is located in a Golf Course neighborhood that provides a pool and assistance as needed. Our guests enjoy walking in the trails around the property and collecting rocks with minerals in beautiful colors and just enjoying nature. I believe that’s what most people want when they visit The Smokies.
I understand that is imposible for everybody to enjoy the same things and maybe MyHappyPlace was just not a good match for you. I would have loved if you would have communicated your concerns to us by replying to the email we send every guest on their first night to check that they are doing well. This is the first time we hear about your concerns. This cabin is really our Happy Place and it has been the Happy Place for many of our guests who come to relax, to connect with nature and to create beautiful memories that makes them want to return again and again.
The pictures for this property look amazing, but unfortunately they don’t live up to the current state of this property. We travel frequently and utilize VRBO and have never had an experience like this. When we arrived, we quickly saw this place was filthy. The fridge smelled horrible and was not clean, there was mold around the sinks in the bathrooms and all over the shower door. The floors has dirt all over them. I went to open the panty and the door came completely off the hinge. The pictured outdoor space which attracted us to the property was covered in leaves with no cushions. The game area in the garage only had one working game. The beds were so hard and uncomfortable. It was so unsatisfactory, we were willing to be out the money but we were unable to find another place to stay due to the holiday. I reached out to the owners regarding our concerns and we were told they usually don’t get feedback like this and would pass the information on to the cleaner. They said the cushions were stained and unable to be used and ignored my comment around the gaming console. There was no solution provided for any of my concerns. I would never stay in this property again. It is the worst VRBO we have ever visited.

What you described, a dirty home, mold, broken fixtures, missing cushions, and a game room that was barely functional, is completely unacceptable at any price point, at any time of year, but especially during a holiday weekend when you deserved nothing less than a perfect escape.
We also want to acknowledge how poorly your concerns were handled in the moment. Telling a guest that we 'don't usually get feedback like this' and simply passing it to the cleaner without offering any real solution is not hospitality, it is deflection. You deserved immediate action and a genuine effort to make things right and you received neither. We are sorry.
What you experienced in 2022 became the catalyst for a complete overhaul of how we operate this property:
- Our entire cleaning system has been rebuilt from the ground up. Every turnover now follows a detailed room by room checklist with photo verification required before check-in is ever released. Refrigerators, bathrooms, showers, floors, and every surface are individually inspected and documented.
- All outdoor furniture cushions have been fully replaced and are inspected before every single stay.
- The game room is audited before every guest arrival — every game functional, every battery replaced, every piece of equipment accounted for.
- A dedicated maintenance inspection now runs alongside every cleaning turnover. Broken fixtures, loose hinges, and any wear and tear are identified and repaired immediately, not passed along or ignored.
- Most importantly our entire guest communication approach has been rebuilt. When a guest raises a concern today they receive an immediate, solution focused response, not a deflection. Every issue is treated with urgency because every guest deserves to feel heard and taken care of.
The property you see in the photos today reflects the home we have worked incredibly hard to deliver consistently to every single guest. New kitchen, new bathrooms, new flooring, new furniture, new linens, this home has been significantly renovated and upgraded since your stay.
You traveled during a holiday, paid your hard earned money, and spent your time dealing with problems that should never have existed. That is not something we can undo but it is something we have worked every single day since to make sure never happens again.
We are genuinely sorry and we wish you nothing but exceptional travel experiences going forward.

The property manager is the worst, Stay away they are just out for money grab. maybe new owner!
At check in the cleaners were there still cleaning we asked what happen and they said they got info last minute that it was a flip to clean and go. Said management only told them very last minute. We booked days in advance.
We Found bed bugs our second night , left leg was eaten up in grouper bits when I woke up white puffy bumps that are scars now, soaked in bath before bed so didn’t carry anything from outside as they are pathetically claiming , contacted owner at 11am to inform what we found and that we could not stay there another night and would be there for few more hours to get their feedback ,meanwhile wash and dry our belonging not to risk taking home bed bugs. We finally left at 300 pm and then contacted them again to let them know we checked out at 300pm and still zero communication. Then at almost 900pm they send an email to say from one of our pictures we emailed them that it’s a tick and that they have a Facebook friend group agreeing with them, just belittling the situation. We already left 6 hours ago and drove 5 hours home. Then to add insult to injury they have a game that stopped working in their damp garage and some how connect it to us saying we must have damaged their game. Screen not staying on glitching on and off so apparently that’s our fault. Glad the AC and appliances didn’t go out while we were there I guess they would have charged us for that too. In all this we paid for 4 nights and left after the second night from bed bug bits and they have not replied anything to that. Not one phone call, charged us in full and at the end charge us additional money for their game issues. Horrible management. Late check in because of cleaners there around 530pm and we had to leave and find something to do for an hour while they finished after being in car driving all day from home and then second night get eat up by bed bugs and have to leave with the owners not communicating like a professional business should then just belittle the situation. We have everything documented emails and hundreds of photos, photo of cleaners with timing , bed bugs, bed bug droppings between sheets etc, under the bed the rug plastic wrapper and trash under the bed no proper cleaning to say no bed bugs, all bits , bug, house, game photos. Hope they do the right thing here. Bad management. We wasted so much time and money here. They should refund situations like this! Hundreds of cabins for rent in this area find another and stay away from headache!

We want to be direct and honest with anyone reading this. The communication failures described here were real and unacceptable. A guest should never have to contact their host multiple times without receiving an immediate, clear, and caring response. That is not how we operate today.
Since this stay in 2022 we have completely rebuilt every system that failed during your visit:
- Our cleaning process now includes a mandatory inspection and photo verification completed before check-in is ever released to a guest. Cleaners being on site at guest arrival will never happen again.
- Our communication protocol now requires an immediate response to any guest concern, within minutes, not hours. No guest will ever feel ignored or belittled during a difficult situation.
- Every maintenance concern raised by a guest is now treated as urgent and investigated immediately and professionally, never dismissed.
- Any billing disputes are handled promptly, transparently, and with the guest's experience as the priority.
We understand that trust once broken is hard to rebuild. What we can tell you is that the property and the people managing it today are fundamentally different from what this guest experienced in 2022. Every painful review like this one exists as a permanent reminder of who we refuse to be.
To this guest, we are truly sorry. You deserved significantly better.

Property is beautiful and very private, properties paved driveway is on a huge hill so be aware of inclement weather.
After a small hiccup upon checking in, that the owners were able to remediate, our stay was great. Would book again upon revisiting TN.
Very cute and cozy place not too far from Gatlinburg. The only thing i can comment on is that the curtain shower needs to be changed and some of the door knobs were lose. Other than that we loved the cabin.
We have been traveling to the area for the last 7+ years and normally stay at the Dream More Resort. For whatever reason our dates were not available so we took a chance and rented a cabin for the first time and we loved it. This cabin (my happy place) was beautiful and was in a great location. So easy to get to Gatlinburg. The cabin was big and have very comfortable beds. It was clean and the decor was beautiful. There are no TVs in the bedrooms which was actually quite nice. I would recommend and we are already thinking of returning. Thank you for the great time.
We enjoyed our stay at “My Happy Place”. It was in a private area. We even got to witness a couple of bears right in the front yard area. We enjoyed the hot tub, the fire place and the outdoor movie projector. Our kids enjoyed the game room and the nice bunk beds!
