About this property

Hudson Valley Apartment in a Historic Farmhouse w/ Sauna Near Stone Ridge Hamlet

Stay in the first floor of a 1920 Hudson Valley farmhouse located at the historic crossroads of Stone Ridge, a quiet hamlet in the Rondout Valley surrounded by forests, farms, and historic villages. This peaceful retreat combines the character of a historic Hudson Valley home with comfortable spaces to relax after a day exploring the region.

One of the highlights of the stay is the private wood-fired outdoor sauna, located just steps from the backyard stone patio. After hiking nearby trails or exploring the small towns of the valley, many guests enjoy ending the evening with a sauna session followed by quiet time outdoors.

Inside, the apartment reflects the warmth of an early twentieth-century farmhouse while offering comfortable spaces to unwind. The bedroom provides a calm place to recharge, while the living areas create multiple spots to relax during your stay. During colder months, the propane fireplace adds an especially cozy atmosphere to the home.

The layout includes several distinct rooms that create a natural flow through the apartment. As you enter the home you arrive in a small sitting room we call the tea room, which connects the main spaces of the apartment. The kitchen sits to the left of the entry, while a hallway leads toward the bedroom. Between the tea room and bedroom is the living room, creating a comfortable gathering space separate from the sleeping area.

Outside, the backyard offers a quiet setting to relax, with the stone patio and sauna forming a natural gathering point after a day exploring the Hudson Valley.

Stone Ridge is one of the historic hamlets of the Rondout Valley, known for its colonial stone houses, farmland, and proximity to outdoor recreation. From here you can easily explore nearby hiking areas, visit canal towns such as High Falls, or enjoy scenic drives through the surrounding countryside.

The hose is really cute and decorated well, however we were put off by the smell of the water. My family refused to even wash with it. We had to go to the store for bottled water and shower at a friend's house. Also the bedding needed to be laundered. I emailed the owner about these problems and did not hear back.

Perfect location for visiting Hudson Valley family. We grew up rurally and appreciate the nice rural quiet stay. Clean and neat. Liked the old house.

Inaccurate discription

There was a bit of confusion over booking an extra night but I honestly do feel as though that was a miscommunication. Unfortunately, the ad stated it was wheelchair accessible which it is not. I have mobility issues and this is not the place for that. Steep driveway, stones loose walking to the front door, and steep stairs outside. The house was advertised as having a washing machine which it did not have. I have a toddler and it made the trip so intensely stressful. We had to rent a car - something we weren’t going to do since we were in walking distance of restaurants, a library, and a cafe. Lastly, it was advertised as having a fenced yard. This also was not the case and the front yard is on an extremely busy road. This again, was difficult with a toddler. We had to end our trip early to find a place with these ammenities. It made everything more stressful and expensive- two things you don’t want a getaway to result in.

What a sweet place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay in this comfortable, relaxing space. I wish we were there for more than one night. The instructions for the fireplace are actually on a metal plate under the unit and is not controlled by the thermostat as mentioned in the welcome message. The heater in the living area was a little loud.

About the host

Professional host and 6 consecutive years as a superhost on airbnb. I love the place I live - the Gunks (Shawangunk Ridge). I love to share my properties as well as our beautiful area with guests. We have solid operations and are very serious about cleaning and quality of the service we offer. I am also a skydiving instructor at Skydive the Ranch. I love to share the sky with first timers. Come stay in our properties on the ground and fly with me in the sky!

Why they chose this property

A lot of small details were thought out for the guests to be comfortable, to cook meals, enjoy fresh high quality morning coffee and enjoy the place. The place is a beautiful historical house in Stone Ridge and near tourists attractions, restaurants, and hikes. House is a part of historical heritage of Stone Ridge and used to belong to a local blacksmith and possibly Mr Cooper himself who had his shop set up on the first floor. We are serious about the cleanliness and service, ready to go the extra step to make sure that guests enjoy their stay. We also keep improving and updating the place all the time.
