Located on Spruce Head Island and connected to the mainland by a bridge, this vacation rental offers southern views across the Penobscot Bay. Whether you are looking for a place to retreat and watch the sunrise over the Mussel Ridge Islands or a centrally located destination to explore the beauty of Maine's mid coast, this rental offers a perfect setting to make memories that will last a lifetime.
We hope that you will enjoy your magical time on the coast of Maine as much as we do!
The Space:
This well-appointed house has a terrace that overlooks the Penobscot Bay, a private master bedroom with a desk/writing table, a large loft with a queen-size bed on one side and two single beds on the other side, and an airy great room with a dining room table, sofa and plenty of space for your group to relax and connect. We have lots of board games, shelves of books for both adults and young readers, jigsaw puzzles and toys for younger children. We have a TV but don’t have cable. Instead, we use it to watch DVDs, of which we have many. The small kitchen is equipped with a two-burner stove, microwave, coffee maker and half-size refrigerator with ample cooking equipment and dishes. There is no dishwasher, but there is a washer and dryer for laundry on the ground floor. The entire house is light and spacious, with tons of natural light streaming in through the many windows and sky lights. Enjoy ocean views from the indoors or head out to explore the island’s rocky coast.
Guest Access:
This home is only accessible by climbing 15 stairs to get to the main floor with the great room, master bedroom, kitchen and full bathroom. There is also a spiral staircase to access the loft with the queen-size bed, two single beds and small library with books for adults and children.
While it is possible to have more than two additional cars on the premises, please keep in mind that parking gets tight at that point.
Other Things to Note:
Location: We are ideally located in mid-coast Maine. It’s a 10-15 minute drive to St. George and Tenants Harbor, a 15-minute drive to Rockland and 20-25 minutes to Camden/Rockport. There are numerous hiking trails, lighthouses, beaches, and other sights where you can spend an afternoon or a full day. In fact, you can see the light from two different lighthouses from the terrace. We are always happy to offer suggestions of our favorite places to explore in the area.
Proximity to our home: This rental is a guest house attached by a 70-foot walkway to where we live throughout the year. One of our neighbor’s houses is barely visible through the trees, but otherwise, no other neighbors are close by and it is a very quiet environment with few distractions. Spruce Head Island is a close-knit community and we do everything possible to be respectful of our friends who live on the Island. Our neighbors deserve their tranquility and appreciate guests driving slowly on the shared dirt road that leads to our house. As such, we request NO parties. If you anticipate that your group will be loud into the night, this is not the right place for you.
The ground floor: The living quarters of the guest house are above a three-car garage and art studio/workshop that are not directly connected to the rental. The guest house has its own entrance and stairway. Although we generally park our cars outside (unless we are expecting a large snow storm) we may occasionally access the garage for storage and use the art studio/workshop on the ground floor.
Water: Like many homes on Spruce Head Island, the well water has a slightly higher-than-normal salinity. It is fine for showers/baths and washing dishes, but we offer bottled water for drinking to our guests. We also ask our guests to be conscious of their water usage.
No smoking: Please note smoking is not allowed in the guest house, on the terrace, or outside on the property. Thank you for your cooperation.
Pets: We own two friendly dogs and also allow well-behaved pets to join your experience here. However, loud or aggressive dogs are not welcome and we ask that you not leave your dog(s) alone in the house.
