About the host
Hosted by Giles G (Terry) Childress

I grew up nestled between the Blue Ridge and Appalachian mountain ranges in southwest part of Virginia, became an engineer (Thank you Virginia Tech!) moved to Charlotte NC metro area and lived the last 40+ years, now retired and enjoying some leisure and especially the mountains.
I feel the stress melt away when I come to the cabin. The sights and sounds of the wildlife (birds, turkeys, deer and occasional bear) and the adjacent stream provide a very relaxing environment in which to unwind. As your host I'd like to share that experience with others seeking a peaceful getaway.

Why they chose this property
I bought the cabin in 2018 to enjoy long and short getaways, preferring the solitude and remoteness and to take in the natural beauty; and only began renting it out in 2022. It is rustic, cozy, and comfortable, yet with all the modern comforts I need (well appointed kitchen, internet, SmartTV, electric mattress warmers for the winter, plenty of kitchen and bathroom supplies).
I love enjoying time up here with friends and family without the daily distractions of home. Indeed, its quality time here. The rustic aroma you sense walking into the cabin the first time will melt the stress away. I looked at about 8-9 homes before settling on this cabin; of the homes I looked at, this one just felt right for all the reasons above.
I can open the windows on the creekside of the cabin and listen to the soothing sound while taking in the spectacular views, both short range and long range from the Queen Bedroom or just sitting on the deck at 4800 feet.
Deer and wild turkey routinely walk through the property.

What makes this property unique
The home is a real log cabin and positioned high elevation (4800 feet) near Big Bald Mountain and the AT and has a small creek running through the middle of the property, all while having a southeasterly exposure toward the Blue Ridge mountains including Mt. Mitchell about 35 miles away. The property has extensive boulder landscaping along the driveway and parking area and in front of the cabin. The views of the stars and galaxy on a clear night are spectacular.
Positioned below Big Bald Mountain, we are conveniently located about 3-4 miles drive to the new Hatley Pointe ski resort.
