About this property

Private & Convenient! 250 acre homestead, horses, ponds, private hiking, creeks

Mountains & Meadows at Turkey Pen is the perfect destination to enjoy with your family and friends, especially if you are looking for a private retreat. This family homestead of 250 acres is a pristine property, surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. The creeks, ponds, barns, & undisturbed private mountains offer a peaceful, private backdrop. Guests are welcome to bring their personal horses for horseback riding (separate fee, must book). The property borders miles of national forest trails.

Our cabin sits on a hilltop overlooking pastures with horses, waterwheel, fishing pond, and stream. While sitting in a rocking chair, or swinging on the porch swing, you will enjoy the panoramic mountain views. The quietness offers a relaxing and tranquil vacation.

Our secluded 250 acres of heavily wooded forest borders the Pisgah National Forest. 'Turkey Pen' trail-head is where Native Americans once gathered wild turkeys. We still unearth arrowheads today and wild turkey sightings are a regular occurrence.

As a participant in North Carolina's Stewardship Program, we are committed to preserving wildlife and enhancing the land. During your stay you will see many species of birds, wild turkey, deer, and other wildlife.

We offer private hiking trails that adjoin the National Forest. There are also Blue Ribbon trout streams that are accessible from these trails. They are a long hike to get to & are much easier to access by car. Bring your own horse if you want to. We offer a separate pasture with a stream to accommodate your horse. However, we do not provide shelter or stalls. Horse pasture available for a separate fee & by reservation.

While we do offer a private retreat, we are conveniently located to Brevard, Asheville, and Hendersonville, NC, that are just minutes away.

The owners live on the property along with a caretaker. They maintain the property and care for the animals. Interaction with them is limited but they are happy to answer any questions that's guests may have.

We are excited to announce we now have hvac on the 1st floor, heat & a/c. The heat does rise & leaving the upstairs doors open will help heat the bedrooms upstairs. There are window AC units in the rooms upstairs and space heaters. Fire wood for the fireplace & fire pit can be provided at an additional charge with notice.

We only accept 1 night bookings last minute, 7-10 nights out depending on the season.

We are unable to accommodate any type of snow plow to the roads or driveway. This means that if there is an inclement storm in our area that could effect your reservation, it could be altered or refunded. Safety is the top priority during winter reservation months.
The ponds are available for catch & release fishing, not swimming.

Peaceful mountain cabin

Our family had a lovely time staying at this cabin in an idyllic mountain location! We enjoyed the quick access to the many hiking and biking opportunities in the area, but also spent a lot of time on the front porch just enjoying the beauty of our surroundings.

Quiet & quaint cabin and yet close to everything!

Adorable cabin with any amenity you would need to relax & enjoy the meadow & mountain surroundings. We were looking for the exact combo & so happy to have found this place.. Came as a family of 3 + dog. We loved the views, horses and dogs with perfect little trails to take the dog out for a walk before leaving the property to hike all around the Pisgah Forest area. Close to town to get anything you need, comfortable beds & furniture. We would love to stay here again if visiting the area.

Our Cabin Trip

Wonderful views and an amazing property. We loved the access to visits the horses and how the property backs up to the Pisgah National Forest. It is an older but real cabin with added to the charm. We were mostly outdoors with excellent weather around the firepit. Everyone was very friendly and a pleasure to speak with. We would visit again.

Serenity

This is an amazing place to get away cabin is beautiful the pond is good fishing ,the beds are really soft with no support, the attention to cleanliness is lacking, besides those two minor issues ,we have never had a more relaxing and family friendly stay ,the town is outstanding and so much to see close by,we highly recommend this getaway

Overall, the cabin was lovely. We stayed a week as we tried to have some great secluded family time after the untimely passing of my brother- we were supposed to be visiting him at the time of the trip, but changed plans due to his passing. The property was clean and in a good location with things to do on and off the property. We really enjoyed fishing the pond and having camp fires. The kitchen had most of what we needed to make family meals. And the beds were comfortable. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because of the lack of privacy. We were staying up late to have family time/chats and got woken up several days at 0730 by people coming with trucks to grab equipment. They would return in the afternoons to put the equipment back. Plus the family was using the property for a few things while we were there. They were a truly kind family, but we wanted to tan outside or let our dogs out to run, and we didn’t feel comfortable doing certain things with visitors a few times a day.

Great vacation

This was one of the nicest cabins I have stayed in. Very secluded. The cabin decorated so cute. Very comfortable beds. But the best part was the views. Lots of wildlife, deer, turkeys, we could her coyotes but never saw them. The horses on the property made the grand kids day. They were so friendly. They came right up for pets and we fed them apples. I hope we can come back next year.

Idyllic property in a fantastic location!

We had a wonderful stay during our week of Spring Break. The property is absolutely gorgeous and is in a fantastic location. The view from the back porch swing is picturesque...horses trotting around the pond, turkeys cruising by in a line, white squirrels running through the yard, creek babbling nearby. Peaceful is the word I would use to best describe it.The cabin itself was well-stocked and clean. The master bed had a memory foam mattress and was extremely comfortable. Our teen daughters didn't have any problems sleeping.Internet was a little bit ponderous at times, but that's not why we were there...so no big deal to us! We didn't have any trouble watching a Netflix movie in the living room though.Brevard, Asheville, Hendersonville, Dupont, and Pisgah, are all within a relatively short drive. There are tons of things to do in the area. We would definitely return and we will certainly recommend this gorgeous property to our friends. Thank you very much to the owners for sharing your incredible property with us!

Beautiful spot, convenient location to dining in town and outdoor activities

Beautiful view of horses and nice to be able to fish in pond right in front of the house. Cabin is very convenient to both Brevard and Hendersonville and DuPont and Pisgah parks. Would have been nice to be able to swim in the pond but local swimming holes are nearby in parks. Definitely take advantage of ordering firewood in advance. Great firepit, steps from the front door. Lots of info on local hikes and waterfalls packaged together in welcome binder. Very helpful. Highly recommend Triple Falls, Looking Glass Falls and Sliding Rock. All super easy to get to. Cup and Saucer/Mercantile is great coffee shop, enjoyed Mayberry’s for lunch, Bracken bakery is good. Really wanted to go to Morning Social but it was randomly closed for two days. The white squirrel is out there. Believe and see (we saw several)!

Rustic charm at its best

We recently spent four nights with our friends here at Mountains and Meadows in the family owned charming cabin...The Turkey Pen. The property and nearby Pisgah National Forest lends itself to seeing fabulous waterfalls and a variety of hiking, which we did most days. We loved returning to the charming cabin for evenings of conversation around the rustic stone fireplace. The accommodations were more than adequate and we especially loved the fact that the cabin is and has been loved and appreciated by many of the homeowner’s family and friends throughout the years. We enjoyed meeting the family who was eager to share with us the cabin’s history. Owners, Alisha, Taylor , and Katherine were very accommodating. And their boys, as well, as they kept us well supplied with firewood. We plan to make this an annual event and are looking forward to coming back next Fall. I did a small watercolor painting of the cabin, for the owners and took liberties with the exaggerated color. Hopefully next year we will be seeing the real macoy!

Great location! An absolutely gorgeous house with plenty of space, privacy, and attractions. Cute cabin

The cabin overall was nice but the listing stated that the upstairs had window units but I did not see any and it was hot upstairs. Also, the stink bugs were too much for me. I slept on the couch as they were bad upstairs. I understand that this is a cabin out in the woods but I was not prepared. The place was beautiful and peaceful and had everything that we needed for the night.
