Designer Home on Dingle Bay - Modern Meets Traditional Early booking discounts
EARLY BOOKING DISCOUNT. BOOK for June 2024 by May 15 and get a 10% discount.
Designed by an architect specializing in vernacular European architecture, this beautiful home combines the best of traditional Irish country architecture with modern conveniences. From the outside, the house appears to be two connected traditional cottages much like the ruins of the Kelly homestead that is located on the property. Situated on over two acres of garden, field and forest overlooking Dingle Bay, the house is perfect for a relaxing vacation. Mountains ideal for hiking rise up directly behind the house and Kells Bay, with its beach, boating and fishing, is the view.
The inside the home features an open floor plan, cathedral ceilings, three bedrooms, one with a loft and two with fireplaces. There are two bathrooms, one with tub and one with shower. The kitchen opens onto the living room and dining area. The home is furnished with Danish inspired Irish furniture hand crafted in teak by Al O’Dea in Tuam, Ireland in the 1970’s. The home is beautifully decorated with art by Irish artists and the home owners, both teachers and artists, one specializing in painting Irish landscapes. This is a special place.
Although the house is available for rental, it is our home not a rental property. You will feel like you are staying in a beautifully maintained private home; you are. This opportunity also comes with responsibilities. We expect you to treat our home and belongings with respect. We rent only to small groups of six or less. If you are a larger group, we strongly encourage you to rent from our good friends and neighbors Agnes and John O’Sullivan whose rental property is also listed on this site (VRBO listing 95006).
To rent our home is to take a step back in time into a conceptually old, but functionally new house. It is not by accident, however, that the house does not have a TV. You have tranquility and beauty. The house also has a very well stocked collection of Irish literature and books on Irish history, archeology, anthropology, and natural history. Many of these things you can experience right on the property as our woods is unusual in West Kerry, and the ruins of the Kelly farmstead that we have partially restored and maintained is a special place with its own connection to Ireland’s rich and difficult history.
For those seriously interested in rentals we will gladly provide you with additional photos and a complete floor plan of the home. All renters will receive a guide to the area that we have put together complete with maps, day trip suggestions, dining recommendations, hiking and walking information, and suggestions about where to shop for locally grown and raised food.
Kells has a pub, several restaurants and a small food store. Complete shopping options are available a short drive away in Cahersiveen, Glenbeigh and Killorglin. There is an extensive choice of wonderful dinning options close by.
