About the host

I am Alyson, the host. Our property is managed by Tina who you will be speaking to directly when arranging your stay on Our 100 acres estate private property in Midlothian.
She has "Super Host" status and she will take excellent care of you from beginning to end of your stay.

My parents are the owners of this unique home. They are Jim and Paulanne Thacker. They raised 3 girls and loved life, friends, and family. They built the home knowing they wanted family and friends to join them for all occasions. We celebrated holidays, birthdays, weddings, and business functions among others with many special people for 40-plus years.

For several years our father drove a car at Southside Speedway in the late model division "just for kicks". Memorabilia can be seen in the pool room and garage. He had many unique hobbies and was certainly a unique man. Our father passed away in 2010.

The home construction took over 3 years and was completed in 1980. Our parents along with their architect enjoyed designing all of the many details of the home. The exterior rooflines and exterior windows inside became a theme throughout.
The pavilion was added 15 years later and was most enjoyed by family and friends alike.

Our father and our sister Lori established a wedding business "Celebrations At The Reservoir" offering multiple beautiful wedding locations in and around the estate property (excluding the main house/Iconic Gem) for 17 years. Due to our sister, Lori's death in 2019 Celebrations terminated the wedding business in 2021. Shortly after Lori's death, our mother Paulanne moved to a smaller home.

My sister Carol and I then took over the management of the estate and properties and were then faced with the upkeep expenses. Knowing how our parents enjoyed sharing their home we decided to prepare the homes for short-term rental and begin to share our blessings in this way.

We hope you all enjoy the beauty that we love and have appreciated for many years.

Why they chose this property

Our parents purchased this property thinking they would own horses as our sister Lori loved to ride. They never owned horses but they did have cows on the property and kept them in the field near the Manor house for a while. The Manor house was the only home on the 100 acre property when Jim and Paulanne purchased it. They rented the home as a "long term" rental before it became the office and wedding site of "Celebrations".

Certainly the beauty of the reservoir was also a draw when purchasing the property.
When purchased in the mid 70's, Woolridge Road was a "country" road and the popular neighborhoods Woodlake and Brandermill did not exist. The area has changed considerably through the years. Now, new neighborhoods and shopping is abundant.

What makes this property unique

Our parents loved enjoying walks along the water and after building the home Jim and Paulanne began to create the walkways and gazebos. They hired a man named Gene Morris who was a stone mason. Gene spent years building stone walkways and walls around the property. Gene became a dear friend of our parents as well as did many men and women who worked on the property. Our parents were truly opened arms loving people.
Our mother takes pleasure knowing that you also will also enjoy the walkways and "sitting areas" as mom called them around the property.
