True gem, authentic and genuine traditional Japanese house, very convenient location, close to metro/bus and major Kyoto attractions.Wonderful host, very pleased and had a great time.
As always, my stay at Koto Inn was an unforgettable and wonderful experience. This is a very special place and I love staying here every time I come to Kyoto. Thank you, David and Yoshiko. It was perfect.
I have traveled to many countries. Koto Inn by far was my next experience. It sits on a very quiet alley, but minutes away from restaurants and many local temples. A traditional Japanese house with modernized essential amenities. I highly recommend to solo or couple travelers.
Lovely and serene home, beautifully maintaining its historic character while tastefully updated with modern amenities. Close to the subway and bus lines as well as art museums and temples. Binders of restaurants, sights, and more are so helpful. Excellent communication. We would definitely choose to stay here again.
Amazing and immersive place to stay in Kyoto. Loved that it was further from the touristy places but still very accessible. Host communication was amazing as well.
The Koto Inn is an absolutely beautiful home bathed in history. The entire house was beautiful and thoughtfully furnished. We loved that it had laundry and a soaking tub. We also enjoyed laying on the tatami floor with the garden doors open. It was so peaceful! We fell in love almost immediately!
We loved our stay in this beautifully restored traditonal house, with a wonderful library of books about Kyoto and Japanese culture, antique furniture as well as modern comforts. It’s in a fascinating, central but peaceful area. Can’t imagine a more perfect base for a holiday in Kyoto.
Our host was welcoming and very helpful. The location was fantastic - very convenient to many beautiful sights, excellent restaurants, and transit. A perfect place to stay if you want something different - traditional, off the beaten track, atmospheric.
A beautiful house and a unique opportunity to enjoy a slice of traditional Kyoto lifestyle and culture. A great location - convenient, quiet and well serviced - an absolute delight to walk around the neighbourhood. The futons are authentic, although may be a little firm and low for some with mobility problems. Perfect for us.
I love being able to stay at Koto inn when I visit Kyoto. It is a beautiful, authentic jJapanese home with all the modern amenities in a quiet neighborhood.
This is a really historic property in a great neighborhood. We enjoyed being in a peaceful neighborhood with access to all of the tourist sites. It fulfilled all of our wishes and more. The hosts are great and you must try the local food places. We went to the local sushi place twice. It is cute older couple that don’t speak English, but they always made you feel at home.
The host was kind, communicative, and provided wonderful recommendations. You can tell they truly want to provide a special and unique experience for their guests. The accommodations were beautiful. What a rare treat and delight to stay in a traditional home while also having a modern kitchen and bathroom. Highly recommend!!!
My daughter and I spent three nights at this delightful kyo-machiya, and wish we'd have had more time to stay. The location and facilities were perfect for us.
The opportunity to stay in a beautiful traditional home that's almost 150 years old was so unique and special. The check-in process was easy, and the owner/manager communicated promptly to answer any questions I had. The kitchen was well-equipped. The water was hot, and the shower worked well. The neighborhood was so serene and peaceful. A bus stop was only two blocks away, and we were able to travel everywhere in Kyoto from 'our stop'. Thank you so much for this experience!
Koto Inn is lovely. The neighborhood is quiet with easy walking to temples, Gion, Ginkaku-ji, and great eateries and coffee. It's locate just minutes from the train.
Place was very charming, has historic significance, and the location is great. I especially enjoyed waking up with the light in the morning and the Japanese-style bathtub. There was a relatively jarring miscommunication with the host, who was otherwise supportive, that cast a small shadow on the stay, and the house was fairly cold, though not unbearably so (my stay was in winter).
