Due To This Prime Location, Muted Road Noise Can Somewhat Be Heard Inside Our Shoe As Well As Outside. Ear Plugs and Noise Machines Are Provided For Light Sleepers.

The property has 5 levels and narrow stairs. We do not recommend staying if anyone has mobility constrains.
Damage to property will be charged to guests. The Shoe House is historic and we ask guests treat it with care. There is no dishwasher either. :)

Family get together

Had a wonderful time staying at the cozy shoehouse as we took a couple days to reunite with family after moving out of state. Spent 23 years in York visiting the shoe from time to time. It was very nostalgic inside and outside of the shoe. Unlike practically all shoes, this one did not stink.

Local birthday night at the Shoehouse

We live locally and rented for one night for my husbands birthday! The interior was decorated really cute! Unfortunately it was misting outside so we didn’t get to enjoy the fire pit, but still got to enjoy the hot tub! Great hosts, easy to check in, very accommodating! Definitely would recommend! Very unique experience!

Wonderful girls weekend

We had a great time at the shoe house for a girls weekend! We loved going into the hot tub in the snow. The coffee was stocked and we loved the home decor. Communication was great. Thanks for a wonderful time!

So much fun!

We had a fabulous stay at the shoe house. Such a unique, fun property to be able to say we stayed in. Host was fabulous and checked in often. The beds were super comfortable which is always a concern of mine with rentals. We had a ball!

Perfect Honeymoon getaway

Very quaint, unique, private and fun. A lot of history inside, modernized for comfort, especially loved the outdoor hot tub! Owners are suberb. Will definitely be back! Would give 10 star rating!

The Shoe fit!

Our stay in this delightful Shoehouse 14-!6 July 2025 was certainly a memorable relaxing treat. You have certainly thought of and met our every need. Beds comfortable, ac adjustable, linens plentiful---even make-up removable cloths. Loved the former ice cream parlor downstairs area (where I had enjoyed previously) as we played board games with tea and Keurig coffees and the convenience of yet another bathroom there. We are fond of shopping nearby in Intercourse and Bird in Hand, PA and truly enjoyed a VERY good meal at First Post (thanks for recommendation in your Guest book). Have shared photos of the SHOE with many and highly recommend they take advantage as sure they would enjoy the history of Mr. Haines" generosity, period pieces books, magazine, records, appliances ( many of which bring back fond memories. Recently saw The Shoe House featured on HGTV and knew it had won the plaque on the living room wall for its charming uniqueness. TOTALLY LOVED!! Karen Hannen, Gainesville, VA

Growing up in the area I drove past the Shoe house my whole life. Getting to stay there fulfilled my childhood dream. I got to share it with my parents and my 11 yr old niece. We had a fun time. I would definitely recommend staying there.

A one-of-a-kind property! You will love staying the "The Shoe." Comfy cozy rooms, authentic retro decor, and a great rec room for entertaining your family and friends. Plus a hot tub! The location is good for exploring York, and not too far from Harrisburg and Hershey.

We had a *wonderful* stay at the Shoe House! The building is so unique, quirky, and beautiful, and the hosts are very welcoming and easy to communicate with. We celebrated my wife's birthday at the Shoe House - we had a blast playing records on the antique record player, playing Foosball in the game room, relaxing in the hot tub, and having local adventures! I highly recommend this VRBO rental!

A short unique getaway weekend

Had a wonderful visit. Gave us the opportunity to stay in a unique home and provide fun family time. Playing games outside. Too hot for campfire but enjoyed relaxing around the fire pit. Grandchildren loved staying at the “ shoe house” and shopping for “shoe-vieners”.

This is a charming property with a great history. It was a perfect fit for our family! The kids loved the novelty of staying in a shoe, the adults loved learning about the property’s history, and we all loved having our own spaces to sleep. It is a very short drive to a variety of restaurants and stores, and was a great home base for us as we explored the surrounding area. The owners are very responsive and want to make your experience the best it can be. I highly recommend a stay in the Shoe House.

Why they chose this property

This property has a long history and love from the community. The Shoe House was built in 1949 by a Shoe Store Retailer. He was very generous and was always giving to the local community. The builder, Mahlon Haines would raffle off stays in the Shoe House to newlyweds and couples on their Anniversary. The Shoe House was donated to his employees before he died, and the legacy of giving to the community lives on is welcoming guests to the Shoe House!

What makes this property unique

Part of the Unique aspect of the Shoe is the legacy that is embodies. Hosting people to enjoy the fun and unique features of the Shoe House was why it was built in the 1950's. That long standing legacy makes the Shoe House unique among stays, as well as the many amazing and fun features the Shoe Shines with!
