This was our 4th time staying in the Bird House and we had another enjoyable time. We love the country location it makes us feel like home. This time we enjoyed the York Herb and Garden Festival on Friday and spent a lot of time visiting the Amish Greenhouses. We cook most of our meals to spend time with our dogs but we did order take our from Caruso's Italian Restaurant and it was great and only 5 minutes away so still very hot when we arrived back to the house. We would highly recommend it and of course staying at the Birdhouse.
The accommodations were beautiful, the hosts were extraordinarily friendly and welcoming, and their scones are the best we have ever had. We will definitely be staying with them again.
Other than the constant sound of gunfire from a nearby shooting range, our stay at Carol and Pete’s “bird house” was absolutely wonderful- clean, well accommodated, and friendly with delicious blueberry scones and fresh farm eggs. We loved the roosters and cows!
The property was just as the pictures showed. The owners brought us fresh made scones when we arrived, which were delicious. The house was absolutely perfect for our stay. We will be planning another visit. Thank you so much!
As everyone else says, this place is truly as lovely as advertised. We enjoyed the privacy and personal touch (delicious homemade scones and fresh eggs), and would definitely stay here again.

Charming but
We were there for our 50th wedding anniversary. On our very first night my wife developed a gum infection and swollen very badly. We were forced to leave the very next morning. I understand the no refund policy but really thought the owner would be more understanding. Owner response was no refund policy. Very surprised. Also be aware that besides open air courtyard it is basically a one room affair. Really thought the place was larger than that. If the weather isn’t nice you’re basically in just the one room.
We had a wonderful time, everything was just as listed. The hosts were extremely attentive and communicative. The property was great and so were all the animals. We also really loved the scones :) Thabk you so much!
What an amazing place this is. Like every other review, Carol and Pete are the BEST hosts. I didn’t realize how much I needed to get away until I spent time in The Birdhouse. Everything is as spectacular as it is in the photos. I would stay here a million times over!!!
Our stay was amazing. The rental was beyond our expectations! pictures are spot on but in person it is even cuter. hot blueberry scones and fresh farm eggs from the property owners. We will stay here again when we come visit our daughter. Everything and Everyone are great! . Can’t say wonderful things about our stay. Must come try it for yourself!
The birds nest is just like the pictures, but just being there is so relaxing.Carol and Pete are great hosts and Carol’s blueberry scones are heavenly. Our Yorkie Molly had her first encounter with chickens, roosters and cows and enjoyed watching them.If you like nature listening to birds and walking this home is for you
We couldn’t have been more pleased with our stay at The Birdhouse. From the friendliness of the owners Carol & Pete (who makes the most delicious blueberry scones) to the cleanliness and comfortably decorated surroundings inside the cottage (Carol is a top-notch decorator with an eye for little details that makes it so cozy) to the convenience of location. Highly recommend.
This stay was amazing! Everything we were looking for and more. I think the kitchen and bathroom were my favorite. Luxurious but comfortable. The hosts were so kind and thoughtful. Homemade scones and flowers were waiting. The pictures could never do this gem justice. Thanks Carol & Pete
A lovely setting amid the beautiful PA rolling farmlands. And loved the presence of the chickens, donkeys and the emu on the property. The cabin is clean and wonderful and just as pictured (except I don’t believe the beautiful shower is captured in the photos). It turned cold that week so we weren’t able to enjoy the outside space as much but look forward to a return stay in the summer!
We came back for another day at this sweet little cottage. Five stars the first time and somehow even better the next. We love exploring the property and going down to the river nearby. The fenced in hard for the dogs is ideal, and we love the patio fireplace. The eggs and scones are such a treat, and Carol and Pete could not be more gracious. You can feel yourself relax as soon as you drive onto the property. We'll be back!
We have stayed at dozens of vrbos, usually about 4 or 5 per year. This place was completely perfect in every way! Owners are so sweet and pay attention to every single detail. Everything was amazing, the weather was not on our side as it rained the whole time. The courtyard reminds me of an Italian villa, it was beautiful, my favorite spot. Loved the animals so much! Thank you for a spectacular weekend, and we are still dreaming of those scones, by the way....
Comfortable, clean, charming cottage. Everything good you have read in past reviews is true. We arrived during the time of poor air quality due to the Canada fires so had to adjust our exploration of the area to inside attractions and we found much to do. Carol and Phil were always available to support our stay and the blueberry scones are superb. Farm fresh eggs made a wonderful frittata. The cottage shows the knowledge of a great host, interior design and expert construction. Then outdoor patio is lovely from early morning to sunset. Great place.
We had a wonderful weekend at the Birdhouse ! We were welcomed with a warm plate of freshly baked blueberries scones at this lovely appointed cottage on the farm. Beautifully decorated for the holidays, it had everything we needed. Even dog bowls, couch covers and grain free treats for our fur babies. Pete and Carol have thought of everything. We cannot wait to return for another visit. Be sure to say hello to the local emu, chickens, donkey if time permits ! Such a wonderful experience all around. Thank you !!
The cottage was anazi g! We stayed a long weekend and took our two dogs. Carol and Pete take great care of the human and furry guests. From fresh flowers on the table to warm sco es personally delivered to treats for the dogs that mi e loved. This is located in a perfe t area. 30 minutes max to everythi g we wanted to do. Antique stores in Columbia were great and somethi g to do on Sunday. We loved our morning coffee on the patio by the fireplace with the dogs abd and then eveni gs out there were just as nice. All the farm animals were a plus and m
My husband was right at home. The fresh eggs were great! We definitely will stay here again when returning to Amish country. It was our first time here.

I have lived in this area all of my life and have grown to appreciate the little piece of paradise that we call home.
Why they chose this property
Growing up down the road and having my Grandparents next door has been a great life experience. The area had always been very family oriented with my Aunts, Uncles, and cousins next door. There are still families that have been here for their lifetime.
