The host cancelled on us at the last minute even though we already had paid in full / 100% and had an official booking confirmation from vrbo. So, obviously a huge disappointment. To be fair, the vrbo people on the -800 number were very apologetic and supportive, but nevertheless it was a near disaster since we had booked the property for a very important family event— UVM college graduation for our son. And while the vrbo people did their best to help us find a replacement property, it was a miracle that we succeeded in finding something else since graduation weekend is heavily booked, and we were forced to scramble at the last minute, and the replacement process was very stressful and time consuming.Hate to be negative but feel a duty to be honest about what happened.
My host cancelled my stay 20 minutes before I was supposed to check in. I had been reaching out via the app to confirm check throughout the day. He never once called me or emailed me. I had received a confirmation notice earlier that morning, but not checking info. An hour after I was to check in he sent an email that he was sorry he had overbooked the unit. Mind you this was Burlington, VT UVM. Graduation. I was with my family for my daughter’s graduation. Accommodations were all sold out. No phone call with an apology no help in finding alternative housing. Not a peep. Just one cryptic email. I called him multiple times over the weekend for a better explanation but no return phone call. I have been cancelled on before and have always received a phone call and give suggestions of alternative housing. This was the most unprofessional shirking of responsibility. I can’t speak for the appearance of the property. But if this guy is too afraid to pick up the phone and apologies for his own mistake, I would suggested you avoid this property. He clearly cannot be trusted. I would suggest you look for apartments with more scrupled owners. I would hate to see someone else’s vacation ruined because of the underhanded dealings of this one owner.
