GREAT LOCATION, GREAT FOR GROUPS

The location is unbeatable, with tons of restaurants, bars, brewery’s, and shops nearby. Only 2 blocks from Tchoupitoulas Street and 5 blocks from Magazine Street, there is plenty to choose from within walking distance and more even with a quick drive or bike ride. The St. Charles Streetcar, where the rest of New Orleans is at your fingertips, is only about a 15 minute walk away— a beautiful scenic walk that includes the famous Buckner Mansion, seen in movies and TV like American Horror story. Walk a block to the famous Nola lunch spot, Turkey and the Wolf, or grab a bite even closer to your front door at the Dragonfly Cafe on one side or T&T po-boys on the other. Check out some of the many breweries located on Tchoupitoulas street, like Urban South Brewery, Miel Brewery & Taproom, NOLA Brewing and more!

Guests will have full and private access to the BACK unit of this large 18th century home, which includes a downstairs 2 bedroom apartment, upstairs 2 bedroom loft space, shared breezeway, and private backyard.

Guests will enter the property through a wooden gate into a shared breezeway located on the side of the home. This outside path leads directly to the entrance of the unit as well as a private backyard space.

The breezeway is the only shared space, however there are shared walls as this is a multi unit property. The front unit of this home is rented as a mid-term rental, with guests ranging from one month to several months.

Like many New Orleans homes, there is street parking only for this unit. There is often no difficulty parking as there are plenty of street parking spots available in front of the home, further down the block, or directly across the street. All we ask is that you do not park directly in front of the blue house located next door– we have great neighbors and want to respect their space as well!

Please note: The front apartment of the building is occupied by a long term tenant, though it is completely private and has a separate entrance. The long term tenant will have occasional access to the shared breezeway however the backyard remains exclusively for guests of this space.

QUIET HOURS are strictly enforced between 10pm-8am in order to respect all renting parties.

While a mix of commercial and residential, our block has a quiet residential feel and we hope you and your group get to experience what it feels like to live like a local.

With that being said, this is not the space for rowdy groups traveling for the sole purpose of partying. There are MANY nearby bars and drinking establishments to enjoy before settling down at the property. This home is old, fragile, and not a place for boisterous behavior, so we ask that you reserve that behavior for appropriate New Orleans establishments and adventures and are respectful to our neighbors and our space when returning home.

We have great neighbors who will notify us if guests disobey quiet hours or cause any disruptions to neighbors or other tenants.

Nice place!
The property was very nice and clean inside! The host was very quick to reapond. We enjoyed the property. Maybe look into a pull out couch or two. And an outside grill. Overall very nice place! Its probably not the best spot for after hours noise due to the closeness of the neighbor at the front of the property.

Great place for a group of friends
We stayed here for French Quarter Fest, and really enjoyed a place where the six of us could stay, chill after a day of music, share meals, and relax. Quiet, great amenities, and great communication with the host. Bus 91, right outside the door, is easy access to the French Quarter (check out Le Pass for your phone to buy bus passes).

Gem near magazine street
Absolutely, loved this property. From the outside the street and house look slightly unwelcoming but the inside is beautiful. My family of 6 had so much space. We all were working periodically through the week and there were a few places in the house we could go to have quiet. The beds were fairly comfortable. It’s an old house so it definitely squeaks but otherwise it was a wonderful place to stay. It’s only a few blocks from magazine street so you can really explore a lot without driving. I didn’t feel in danger at all staying in this area. Can’t reccomend enough!

Great space for the family
Lots of space for the whole family. We had four kids from teen to toddler plus the grandparents. Host was very attentive and communicative. We walked to several restaurants and shops. Would definitely stay again.

About the host

Host profile image
We're Family Tree, a family team that owns and operates short, mid, and long-term rental properties in New Orleans. Owners MJ and Jeremy have a portfolio of real estate acquired over their 25+ years in New Orleans. Their niece Jesse is the property manager and host of their short and mid-term rental properties. MJ's long-time best friend and real estate partner, James, manages the long-term rentals.

If one thing is for sure, we love New Orleans and are proud to call it home. We love it even more when our out-of-town friends and family visit and we get to share this special place with them. Family Tree stems from just that-- our love of our city and for sharing its magic with those we love most! Now we get to share it with you too!

Why they chose this property

In 2002, MJ and Jeremy bought the home, renovated it, and rented it out to long term tenants. This property has primarily been occupied by long term tenants under their ownership-- besides when they lived in 536 post Katrina, as this was their only property that had not flooded.

2022 was the year that a major shift took place for MJ, Jeremy, and their niece Jesse. In 2022, the 3 unit space was converted into 2 units, 538 as a short term rental and 536 as a mid-term rental property. Jesse was tasked with designing and furnishing the unit and setting it up for guests, along with managing a few others owned by MJ and Jeremy.

As one of MJ and Jeremy's first homes, and Jesse's first design project and property management experience, this property holds a special place in all of their hearts.

What makes this property unique

This historic home was said to be built in the late 1700's and is one of the oldest homes in the Irish Channel. We know its general age due to the walls, made of brick and hand chopped wood beams. If you look closely, you'll actually be able to see the ax marks on the wood, meaning the structure of this home predates wood mills!

We don't know much else about the history of the home, but historians believe that it was built elsewhere in Louisiana then moved, possibly rolled on large wooden logs as they would in the 1700's, to its current location on Jackson Avenue.

This home, along with its wonderful location, gives guests the opportunity to experience New Orleans in an authentic way by staying in a unique and historic New Orleans home!
