Welcome to Hygge Gård We feel fortunate to be able to share our farm and its beautiful landscapes and environment with you. We have named our farm "Hygge Gård." Hygge can be translated into a sense of comfort, coziness, and well-being. Hygge is an attitude towards life that illuminates the finding of joy in everyday life experiences. We have a large lawn, orchard, and organic garden on the property. One of the owners and co-host(Greg) may be on the farm tending to their management. Glad that you enjoyed your stay and that you found our house to be cozy and comfortable. Our house is also near many hiking trails, many lakes, and great areas to hunt. You were a wonderful guest and we hope that you return for another visit.
This house is the perfect location to visi our family and many area communities and lakes. It is a quiet rural setting where you can enjoy wildlife and yet within 5 minutes to a grocery store, cafe, golf course, gas stations, lakes and more. The house is well stocked. This is the best place we have stayed at in the area in the past 4 years.

Hi Justin. Thank you for your great review. Hope that you had good "Luck" fishing. Do you think that we should setup a fish cleaning station? You were wonderful guests and we hope that you and your guests can make a return trip. The fishing is always good. All the Best, Gary Petersen
This space was so magical! It was located on a beautiful farm with so much space to explore. The house itself was set up beautifully with 4 bedrooms, so everyone got to have their own sleeping space. The beds were comfortable, which was fantastic. The layout of the house was smart and had everything we needed. My friends and I planned a craft retreat here and it worked out so well for that. We plan on doing that again. We took several walks around the farm, which was lovely. And the host was incredibly communicative. He even sent a message, prior to our visit, with restaurant, shopping & hiking suggestions. Which was really nice. If you stay here, definitely check out Cafe Wren. Excellent food & atmosphere. The bonus of this home was a book written by the family that told of the history of the farm & area. I would recommend this VRBO to anyone who is looking for a true getaway where you can just relax in a homey space and enjoy the great outdoors!

We are so glad that you thought our house and farm were magical. It was great that you all had a chance to explore the farm and enjoy the fields and forests. Hopefully you were also able to observe some of the local wildlife. The farm is certainly a great place to have a retreat. Many of our guests have commented on how they have enjoyed the peacefulness of the farm. You were wonderful guests and we certainly hope that you all make a return visit.
Thanks for a great stay and for great communication! Just in case it’s helpful for other guests, we weren’t familiar with how to operate mini splits, and didn’t realize that was how the space was air conditioned until we had our kids set up in rooms (without mini splits). Not a biggie on this really amazing weekend (what a storm!)Thanks again!

About the host
Hosted by Gary Petersen
I am a retired professor of Soil Science. I retired from Penn State University. My wife Mary and I live in Pennsylvania. I was reared on this farm. Therefore, this farm holds many fond memories of my youth and family times. Because of my background in environmental sciences, I want to preserve this property and share it with others that have a tie to the land and its nature.
Why they chose this property
My great grandfather homesteaded this property. It has been in our family for almost 150 years. There are almost 130 acres of prairie grass fields, orchards, woodlands and wetlands. It has a variety of wildlife including deer and birds. What a wonderful place to escape to and enjoy the solitude along with the beautiful sun rises and sunsets.
What makes this property unique
This is a unique farm with a great variety of landscapes and vegetation. Our farm is a perfects place for a family vacation. Lots of places to hike and hunt. Enjoy the organic garden and orchard. Many local activities including lakes, parks, scenic trails, bike paths and river floats trips. We call the property Hygee Gard which can be translated into a farm with a sense of comfort, coziness, and well-being.
