About the host

Host profile image
I own four properties; two in Salt Lake City, Utah and two in New Orleans, Louisiana and have been a landlord for 20 years. I'm an animal advocate and at times have a stable of animals living with me, I am also a fine art photographer and published writer. I love to travel and have lived and traveled throughout 19 countries. I speak passable Italian but wouldn't be able to keep up a philosophical conversation in it, unless it regarded food...

Why they chose this property

I bought this house in 2018 and have been renovating it (it's a double shotgun) over the past four years. When I had the opportunity to invest, I decided to continue my passion for renovating historic homes and wanted to move to New Orleans, one of my favorite cities in the world. I don't renovate to look new and perfect (although bathrooms and kitchens are mostly modern), I bring the house back to what it once was, as historically accurate as is possible. I use reclaimed wood like kitchen shelves made from old growth wood boards found beneath the house, or a beautiful fireplace mantel made from antique doors found in an empty lot across the street (complete with doorknobs and key holes as accents). I do all the work myself, it is my passion to reveal what a house used to be. My friends call me "the house whisperer" because I can feel what a house wants to be, or rather, wants to return to.

What makes this property unique

You are surrounded in lush colors and handmade details that make this home unique in one of the world's most unique cities.
