About this property
New Enchanting Modern/Rustic/Artsy Home. 2min-DT BM, I-40. Pet & EV Friendly
Glen and Karyn would like to welcome you to “Black Mountain Side”, a new home completed in January of 2023. We’ve designed a wonderfully adorned, modern home with complementary rustic, farmhouse and industrial décor. Enjoy Glen's whimsical original art throughout the house. BMS will be especially appealing to those people who can appreciate the many hours that we dedicated to designing a warm, artistic enchanting home. We are now proud to announce that we've recently installed a universal Tesla EV charger. Furthermore, we do allow for small dogs (under 20lbs), please note there is a $50/night fee for the dogs.
You'll appreciate the convenient two minute drive to and from I-40, which is about another minute from downtown Black Mountain. Once on I-40 it's about a scenic 15 minute drive to Asheville.
Speaking of warmth, BMS contains two gas fireplaces, the second of which is located in the tree-lined Sunroom. You’ll enjoy spending quiet time in this beautiful room, basking in the comfort and glow of the stone fireplace. During the warmer months, you can open the windows to savor the cool mountain breeze, yet stay protected from fly's and mosquitos. It also provides the perfect social setting for sharing appetizers, cocktails or even meals with your family and/or friends.
BMS is about a 15 minute walk to downtown Black Mountain. We are also about an 8 minute walk to a few restaurants/bars in Cheshire Village. Next to these restaurants is a beautiful path along a rolling stream. If you enjoy a scenic morning walk, it's about a 40 minute round trip walk along the stream and back to the house.
Black Mountain has quite a few fantastic restaurants, shops and breweries. It perfectly complements the bigger city of Asheville. Black Mountain has been named the “Prettiest Small Town in America” by readers of TripAdvisor and for good reason. You can easily enjoy gorgeous views of the mountains around every turn and access numerous outdoor adventures within minutes of the downtown area. It’s just a few minutes from various hiking paths as well as Lake Tomahawk.
If you choose to spend your time hiking, shopping or tasting some of the areas fine local beers, you'll look forward to returning to BMS where you can end your day relaxing in the many interesting rooms including the spacious, tree lined, Sunroom. This enclosed room contains one of the two Fireplaces which will keep you warm and cozy in the cool mountain evenings.
ACCESSIBILITY: It doesn't get much easier than this. BMS is less than1 mile from the Black Mountain exit off of I-40. We are located about 1 mile from the quaint downtown of Black Mountain. It's about a 10-15 minute walk into town. There is only one small section of road that doesn't contain a side walk. Downtown Asheville is a scenic 15 minute drive through the mountains.
KITCHEN:
You can find great restaurants in Black Mountain and Asheville, which was recently voted best "Foodie" city in the country. If however, you choose to dine in for the evening, you'll appreciate working with all the new full-sized stainless steel appliances, gourmet stove top range and well stocked kitchen. We provide a variety of pots and pans, knives, dinnerware/silverware for 12, cutting boards, toaster oven, Ninja blender and various other cooking utensils. If you enjoy adult beverages, we supply Wine, cocktail and beer glasses.
DINING:
The custom made Dining Table seats 6-8, with close-by additional seating via the Kitchen Island/Bar that contains 4 bar stools.
LIVING ROOM:
The beautiful living room is part of the open floor plan which gives you immediate access to the dining area and kitchen. It contains a new set of matching comfy Leather Sofa/Sleeper, Love Seat and a Recliner. The TV is mounted above the fireplace. So whether you are watching TV or just sitting in front of the warm fireplace with your favorite book, you will thoroughly enjoy the warmness of this area of the house.
SUNROOM:
Soon to be your favorite space in the house. The Sunroom contains what is called an EZE Breeze structure which allows you to enjoy the benefits of the outside without facing the elements of nature. The "windows" can easily be vertically moved to gain access to the outside. No need to worry about bugs and mosquitoes, the structure is protected by screens. The Sunroom has six individual cushioned patio chairs. The three end tables and large coffee table will allow you to comfortably enjoy cocktails, appetizers and meals in this nature laden setting. The fireplace will provide warmth when cooler weather blankets the area.
BEDROOMS:
The primary bedroom has a King bed, large walk-in closet and a large luxurious in-suite bathroom with separate shower/bath. The second bedroom has a King mattress, while the third bedroom has two full sized mattresses. You'll have an awesome night of sleep on the brand new memory foam mattress, all cotton sheets and blankets. Choose from firm or soft memory foam pillows. Each room has it's own unique distressed wood plank wall and features an original piece of art created by Glen which he hopes you can admire and appreciate.
TV:
For your TV viewing, there is a 55" smart TV in the living room and a 50" smart TV in the primary bedroom. Both TV's are equipped with Youtube TV which has 80 of your favorite free channels.
OFFICE:
If you have to dedicate some time to work, you can comfortably sit at the desk located next to the kitchen.
LAUNDRY ROOM:
The laundry room is located on the second floor, right outside the primary bedroom. It contains brand new Washer and Dryer as well as laundry detergent.
Perhaps you will recognize the name Black Mountain Side. It is the song title of an haunting acoustic song that appears on Led Zeppelin’s first album. Being big fans of the band, when Glen and Karyn realized that they would be a building a home in Black Mountain, they instantly knew what the name of their new home would be. With this knowledge, hopefully you can appreciate the Welcome Plaque that Glen created for BMS.

About the host
Hosted by Glen Hoffman

Welcome to our wonderful home in beautiful Black Mountain! Living in Florida, Karyn and Glen most certainly appreciate the mountain landscape and cool summer breeze that is part of the Black Mountain experience. As your hosts, we dedicated a great deal of time to creating a truly unique home that we are certain that you can appreciate and enjoy while vacationing in Black Mountain. Glen designed and installed all the wood panels that you’ll find in every room. His Digital Art is present throughout the house. We really enjoyed shopping the many local Antique stores to find those little treasures that have become an essential part of the personality of BMS. If you are a “visual” person who appreciates a stimulating yet relaxing atmosphere, you will most certainly love your stay at BMS.
Why they chose this property
We chose to build in Sweet Birch Commons for two reasons. The first being, the sense of community it affords us. The common area located just a few feet from BMS has a community grill, fire pit, and clubhouse. The the rustic water tower is the focal point of this area and adds a certain element of charm to this amazing setting.
The second reason is the location. About an 8 minute walk to the local eateries, shopping and cocktails at Cheshire Village as well as a beautiful walking path along a gorgeous stream. If you enjoy a nice walk, it’s about a 40 minute round trip from the house to the end of the stream and back. Perfect way to begin your day.
A quick 2 minute drive to Cherry Street(downtown BM): shops, museums, boutiques, art galleries, bistros, restaurants, cafes. 15 minutes to Asheville and the Biltmore Estate. 1 minute drive to Ingles Supermarket/Starbucks/, BBQ & fast food. 5 minutes to the most popular hiking and mountain biking trails in WNC.
Easy 2 minute drive to and from the main highway(I-40) exit.
What makes this property unique
As the saying goes "A picture is worth a thousand words". Hopefully, you've already viewed the many pictures of BMS. As you can tell, we have put so much creative energy into making BMS a truly unique home that you can be intrigued by and take comfort in. From the custom art and wood planked walls that Glen created to the whimsical antiques we purchased from local shops, every room provides it's own unique charm.
The cozy tree lined Sunroom gives you the ability to enjoy mother nature while being protected from Mother Nature. The stone fireplace in the Sunroom will keep you warm during those cool mountain evenings.
