Nice little cabin

Perfect for my wife, 2 dogs, and I for crashing at night and heading out to Acadia during the day. Nothing flashy, it is a cozy little old cottage.

Quiet and lively rustic vibe

Provided a quiet rustic place to stay that provided a nice counter to the busy crowded feel of Acadia and Bar Harbor Minor quibbles - wish there was a dishwasher and more towels but otherwise no complaints, super happy

Great location, could use a bit of TLC

Incredible location central on MDI, 15 minutes max to basically anywhere. Hosts were great and accessible when needed. The house is a small cottage off the main highway. While we expected no frills going into the trip, there were a few things that still fell short of expectations: the beds are quite uncomfortable, there was no iron available (standard at even the cheapest motels), the windows are in rough shape and many are cracked, and the TV that's advertised in the listing is smaller than a laptop monitor. Some small capital improvements and a bit more attention to creating memorable stays for guests would go a long way here.

Small and rustic with good interior island access

This property is only advisable if you really need to be in this area of the island. We wanted an easy shot to NE Harbor and Seal Harbor so it worked for a few days. The house is very old and could use some serious updating, but it's not bad for a few days. The host prefers full week rentals, but I think it would become less desirable after the first half week. The house was mostly clean, but there was still some dust areas under beds and such. Blankets had some age odor, and bathroom amenities were bare essentials. There is a nice front deck for outside space, but that's the only outdoor area to enjoy, and the road noise makes it less enjoyable. Very busy road way that starts giving lots of noise into the house by 4 - 5:00 AM makes late sleep unlikely. For anyone wanting access to the south coast Northeast Harbor is great for small breakfast restaurants and bakeries, Seal Harbor offers a nice beach as well as Acadia Outdoor Sports for bicycle rental and good access to the carriage trail. Abel's Lobster is the dinner restaurant gem at the top of Somes Sound. Very pretty outdoor seating.

Outdated and Broken

I should have heeded the review I read about this place being very outdated and the bed being extremely uncomfortable. My son ended up sleeping on the sofa the whole time (literally had surgery the day before and said the bed was the worst he has ever slept in and opted for the couch which was not much better). The fridge squeaked and squealed all night due to the motor being bad, dirty, old or all the above; I would guess the latter. This place is not clean. Not disgusting but definitely needs a company to come through and deep clean everything. All furnishings need to be updated. The host was able to get us in with short notice and extend our stay…not that we need it. We are leaving early because it is that bad. I hope this review saves others from making the same mistake we did. This area is way over priced for what you get, but keep in mind, if you pick the cheapest listing you are probably getting what you paid for.

Old/Needs TLC

This house needs work. Was poorly maintained. The yard was littered with junk. Not all windows had ability to open or stay opened. Back door screen was a curtain. Front door needed to be manually closed each time and there where no screens in door for cross ventilation. Electrical outlets released from the wall when pulling out a plug. Not all sockets worked. Wall plate in bathroom was cracked (hazardous). Bathroom rug was completely stuck to the floor. We use VRBO often and never had such a disappointment. We have stayed in older homes that have been very well kept. This house should not be offered on this site until repaired. The clincher was a very loud refrigerator until final day when it had to be unplugged due to loud screeching noise very late at night waking us .
