Surrounded by tall pines and just minutes from Yosemite's southern entrance in the residential community of Fish Camp, this traditional yet unique mountain cabin can be your home away from home while exploring the natural beauty of Yosemite National Park. The Big Pine cabin is the larger of two cabins at the Yosemite Forest Lodge.
To get here it's just a short drive off of Highway 41, through the forest along a narrow road that was once a railroad right-of-way. When you arrive you'll find your home situated in a gently-sloped clearing surrounded by a majestic grove of gigantic pines. Outside your home there is an open yard area, extensive decks and a covered front porch so you can enjoy the forest environment comfortably in any weather.
It's best to contact us by email but you can also call and leave a message if you prefer. When checking our calendar remember that we normally need a full calendar day between groups in order to prepare the house. Happy planning!
The elevation here is just over 5000 feet; it is nearly always cool and shady in the summer, with comfortable daytime highs that average in the 70's (~20 degrees Celsius) and cool evenings with average lows in the low 50's (~10 degrees Celsius). There is very little or no rain during the summer months. The low humidity means your towels and swimsuits will air-dry quickly.
Our prime location puts you away from the crowds, yet close to everything Yosemite has to offer. The southern entrance to Yosemite is less than two miles up the road. If you love the outdoors, this is the place to call home. There is so much do to here that you could easily fill your day with excitement without ever entering the park itself!

We stayed with our kids and the house was as described in the site. Comfortable beds, clean bathrooms and fully functional kitchen. It was more than sufficient for us. Overall it was an excellent experience. A suggestion: there were cob webs in a few places in the house. It will be nice if you can take care of that.
We had a great trip to Yosemite. This cabin was a great place to stay for our family trip. Close and convenient to Yosemite, had everything we needed- plenty of room, lots of linens and a fully equipped kitchen.
Had a great time visiting Yosemite. The house was clean and comfortable. The hosts communicated very promptly. I would definately recommend staying here
Beautiful Cabin. Perfect location, beautiful views, very close to Yosemite Forest and Bass Lake and, Oakhurst. Had a well stocked Kitchen. Lots of rooms a very cool kids area upstairs. Thank you We had such a wonderful time
Super convenient access into Yosemite via Wawona Road. House was well-equipped and offered plenty of space and quiet sleeping for our family. We dined across the street at the lodge one night and made breakfasts, lunches and dinners at this property with ease
Perfect spot for a family vacation close to Yosemite
We stayed for 3 nights and it was great. David was super easy to communicate with, provided clear check in instructions and quickly answered the few questions we had leading up to and during our stay. We had two 4 year olds with us and the playroom upstairs was a big selling point for choosing this cabin and it was a total game changer, the kids absolutely loved it. The large deck was so peaceful, we ate most of our meals out there and our dogs loved having a place to bake in the sun. We would definitely stay here again!
My family and I loved staying here. A traditional old fashioned, very spacious cabin with a well equipped kitchen. Instructions placed throughout were very thorough and well placed. We were cozy and very comfortable, even enjoyed the wonderful fireplace. Thank you to the owners for allowing us to enjoy our Christmas holiday here!
We had a great time at David’s house! The location is wonderful, beds are comfortable, and the kitchen is large and well-stocked. The home is well-kept, but it needs an additional deep clean. The living room TV is also rather outdated; our family had difficulty using any of its features. However, we had an overall great stay in Yosemite National Park.
My family enjoyed our stay at Big Pine cabin. We were able to easily walk to Tenaya Lodge, or just around the neighborhood. We have plenty of space and the homeless comfortable to stay in. The kitchen was well stocked. The only negative was that this Alabama girl overlooked the fact that there was not air conditioner! This made her hot-natured Alabama boys pretty miserable. Lucky that the house stayed fairly cool.but we definitely needed fans at night.
The house in Fish Camp was perfect for our day trips into Yosemite. Only about 10 minutes from the gate, and the Mariposa Grove Giant Sequoias. Maybe 45 minutes to an hour into the actual park.
The house itself was well equipped with pots and pans and kitchen utensils. The beds were very comfortable. Nice big sunny deck.
The little general store is a short walk, and has a decent selection of things you may need, and they have a great little sandwiches for lunch. Good little pizza spot right around the corner. Also very close to the Yosemite Sugar Pine, Railroad, which was a fun experience with the kids. We suggest the moonlight tour.
Would definitely stay again.
The location was great about 2 miles from the Yosemite South entrance and Mariposa Grove. The cabin is well equipped and spacious, especially since it was just my wife and I. Though there is no a/c in the cabin, the temperature stayed very pleasant as it was cool at night and stayed that way during the day as it is in a very shady area under the giant pines growing in the area. It also has a spacious deck with a table and chairs. If you want to stock up on food first Oakhurst is about 20 minutes before you get there and has very good grocery stores. Only an old general store in Fishcamp with little selection (basics) and expensive. Would stay her again if we come back to Yosemite.
Our family of 5 had a wonderful time at this beautiful home! The home was extremely comfortable and exceptionally well-stocked for a rental, with ample kitchen wares and paper goods, soap, detergent, etc. The Wi-Fi was fast and TV perfect for family movies in the evenings. Despite very hot daytime weather, the sunshades and wooded environment kept the home relatively cool by day, and the fans plus natural night time cooling made for very comfortable and even cool evenings. The mattresses were quite comfortable, too!
During our 5-day stay, we traveled to Yosemite for 3 of the days for day hikes, went horseback riding another day, and rented a kayak at nearby Bass lake our last day. The Tenaya lodge was a short, pleasant walk away for a few nice restaurant dinners though I preferred the evenings we cooked ourselves and ate on the beautiful, treelined deck out front!
The total money charged is outrageous for the cabin. Extremely old, really terrible mattresses (feel like box spring). Stairs are super steep inside and not save for anyone over age 65 to go to the bedrooms upstairs. I would have to say, your getting a super high charge just because it’s the last stop before the Yosemite south entrance. Would recommend people to look in Oakhurst which is 10 more miles away but a lot more options, unless you want to shell out major bucks for an old cabin that needs to be rehabbed

home base for Yosemite
This house is conveniently located near the South entrance to Yosemite. It was easy to enter the park each day without long lines. The kitchen is fairly well stocked and we appreciated that it had laundry available. The beds were all comfortable. I felt that the home needed to be cleaned better. There were cobwebs all over the house, inside and out. There was a child's pacifier on the living room floor when we arrived and the coffee maker was left with old grounds in it. The upstairs shower head is at about chest height and was not very usable. All of the outside light bulbs were burnt out except one.

It was a very nice and clean home, great location.
This was our annual winter vacation and thanks to the recent storms, there was a great deal of snow. Roads were plowed or thoroughly compacted so a 4 wheel drive had no issues getting there. Furthermore the walkways were completely clear. Even though there is another smaller cabin on the property they have their own walkway up and are far enough away to keep both cabins private. The heater works well once you figure out the timing on the thermostat and the wood burning fireplace was great. There were only four of us so there were two bedrooms we didn’t even open so this can accommodate a much larger family. We had a terrific time and would definitely come back.
