About the host
Hosted by Eugene Cobb
I built and own The Best Nest at Conley Mountain, so I know the home inside and out—from its craftsmanship and amenities to the mountain setting and the details that make a stay comfortable. I truly enjoy hosting and helping guests make the most of their time in Western North Carolina.
Whether you are visiting for fall foliage, the Polar Express, hiking, golf, rafting, fly fishing, or a quiet mountain getaway, I’m happy to share local recommendations and help you plan the right experiences for your group. I’m available to answer questions and assist during your stay while always respecting your privacy.
I also own Two Guys Flies, a local fly-fishing outfitter, and enjoy helping guests discover the area’s rivers and outdoor adventures.
Why they chose this property
We chose Conley Mountain because it offers a rare combination of privacy, elevation, panoramic views, and convenient access to Western North Carolina’s best experiences. At approximately 3,400 feet, the neighborhood feels peaceful and removed from the crowds, with cool mountain air, beautiful sunsets, and a natural setting that changes with every season.
At the same time, Whittier is a convenient base for exploring Bryson City, Cherokee, the Great Smoky Mountains, the Nantahala area, local rivers, scenic train rides, golf, hiking, rafting, and fly fishing. We wanted guests to have a quiet place to relax at the end of the day without being far from the attractions and outdoor adventures they came to enjoy.
Conley Mountain is a private mountain neighborhood rather than a walk-to-town location, and the home is reached by approximately one mile of gravel mountain road. That setting is part of what gives the property its privacy, views, and peaceful atmosphere.
What makes this property unique
What makes The Best Nest unique is the uninterrupted view. The property faces Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with forest and wildlife—not neighboring homes—filling the view from the decks and windows. Guests can enjoy a rare sense of privacy while taking in sweeping mountain scenery that changes with every season.
On clear days, the view includes iconic Smoky Mountain peaks such as Kuwohi—the mountain formerly known as Clingmans Dome—and Mount LeConte. The name Kuwohi was officially restored in 2024 and means “mulberry place” in Cherokee.
Beyond the view, the property combines mountain privacy with thoughtful craftsmanship, multiple decks, a private hot tub, firepit, walking trail, and more than an acre of natural surroundings. It feels secluded and wild, yet remains a convenient base for exploring Bryson City, Cherokee, the Great Smoky Mountains, and Western North Carolina.
Sunsets are front and center in June, but moves with the seasons.
