About this property
Enjoy in Village Seclusion
Experience the best of both worlds in the beautiful Adirondacks. This lovely home is located between Lake Placid and Mirror Lake in the Olympic Village of Lake Placid, NY. An easy walk to shops, fabulous restaurants, and the Palace movie theater, this getaway is nestled in a grove of pine and birch trees. A short stroll down the hill brings you to the Lake Placid Marina (0.3 mi.), where boat rentals are available to explore this 2,173 acre glacial lake. Dock at Whiteface landing, at the foot of the Olympic mountain, and enjoy swimming and a picnic. Also, a public boat ramp is nearby (0.2 mi.), as well as access to the Jackrabbit and Peninsula hiking trails. The home offers an open floor plan, and the kitchen is at the heart of the action with all the latest (Don't people always end up in the kitchen?) in amenities, and large windows so you can appreciate the wooded setting. There is a fireplace, and a lovely screened in porch.

About the host
Hosted by Roger Boyce

Our home is more than a vacation rental – it is our family’s home- away- from- home and we take great pride in the space. We choose to rent our home in between our own visits and consider each renter our personal guest!
Why they chose this property
My parents selected the property. My parents bought a new 1964 Buick LaSable Convertible and took it for a ride in the Adirondacks. At breakfast another diner heard them talking about the potential of Lake Placid as the site for a second home. That man was Merrill Thomas, whose realty business is still located on Main Street. The three of them jumped in the convertible to see the property. They fell in love with its location, a hop, skip, and a jump from town, yet away from the madding crowd. They wrote the check that day.
The property once belonged to the Stevens House Hotel. The Stevens House, a fancy hotel on Stevens Road. It had been a destination for travelers from all over the world. The property went right down to Lake Placid. Before it was sold, it had been the golf course for the resort, and in the winter a rope tow provided beginner skies a chance to practice their turns.
What makes this property unique
It is located in a secluded wooded area, yet very near town. Casa Cayuga is on an isthmus between Lake Placid and Mirror Lake. From Casa Cayuga you can walk to both Mirror Lake to the east, which the town is located on, and Lake Placid to the west, where you can rent boats to tour the lake.
In 1973, as a family project, we built the house ourselves. In 2009 we gutted the original house down to the studs, even pulling out plumbing and electric and began a rebuild. This time I wrote the checks rather than swing the hammer!
