Step inside the sun-filled main level of this lovely house. In the summer both your front door and carport entrances are surrounded by vibrant flowers. Settle in and make yourselves at home!

Your entrances, porches (including the propane fire pit), and all living spaces are fully separate from our quiet, terrace-level apartment residence.

Our neighborhood is so serene and peaceful. You'll enjoy a relaxing day on the porch, and a sound night's sleep. Use the light-blocking cellular shades and Dohm sleep machine or small fan to sleep-in, or open the windows to let in the mountain air, bird-song, and sunlight.

Three bedrooms (first offers one queen bed, second offers two twin beds, third has a single twin bed.) Each bedroom has space for the *Pack and Play* available upon request).

Please note that we launder all sheets, blankets, AND bedspreads between stays. Your comfort and well-being is our top priority, so you will rest in 100% fresh, clean bedding.

We provide extra bed and bath linens ... light and luxurious, all fresh white, with dark cloths for makeup removal and cleanup after hiking, biking, or kayaking.

The kitchen is fully-equipped including glass-top stove/oven, microwave, coffee, and full-size refrigerator. The main living area is open-concept, flooded with lovely sunlight, and features a 65-inch flat screen television.

We are both artists, so you'll be immersed in our original artwork. Your own private gallery-stay! You'll find local art venues in our welcome folder.

When you're ready to get outside, follow the sidewalk for a 25-minute walk, or a 3-minute drive to downtown Bedford, Virginia, where you'll find all the conveniences of the world's best little town. Among them ... antique shopping, sweet coffee shops, city parks, a watch and clock museum, a knitting shop, a holistic foods and remedies shop, and a genealogical research library!

We're a 10 minute drive from the National D-Day Memorial (open daily 10-5), 15 quick minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, and about 30 minutes from Smith Mountain Lake. Claytor Nature Center and the Sharp Top trail head are both just 10-15 minutes away! (And just 20 minutes to the beautiful Falling Water Cascades hike).

After your adventures, grab a 28-inch Benny's pizza to enjoy by the cozy new propane fire pit, or cook a four-course meal in our fully-equipped kitchen. Read a book or watch for deer in the cool of the carport, or spend the evening star-gazing from the deck (or better yet, grab some blankets and take in the night sky from our safe and spacious yard, portable telescope provided!)

Our neighborhood is beautiful for walking and biking, so feel free to wander the streets, and even walk to town for breakfast (Thursday through Sunday) or lunch (Tuesday through Sunday) ... we'll share directions and recommendations for good things to eat!

For a little exercise, take a ten-minute walk to get to "The Loop", and enjoy a 3 mile walk around Bedford, see some of its most historic locations ... feel free to ask the friendly locals who are also walking the loop for their recommendations, as well.

Whether you're in town to work, visit, celebrate, recover, relax, or explore, our lovely ranch home is a wonderful spot to land for a few days, unpack, and take a load off.

Guest Review: "The house is absolutely adorable! We felt comfortable and at home immediately! The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and the yard was perfect! We loved all the personal touches and lots of information about the local things to do. We will definitely stay here again if we’re ever in the area!"

About the host

Host profile image
I am an artist, a former teacher, and an empty-nester. After enjoying living in Raleigh, NC, my husband and I returned to my hometown, where we live a quiet life in Bedford, Virginia. We love animals, hiking, art, travel, books, cooking, and being close to family once-again. All of the above have influenced the design and vibe of our home, and we are delighted to offer the private main level for your stay.

We've hiked, driven, and enjoyed this beautiful region for decades. Please let us know if you would like some direction on where to to hike, have a picnic by a river, visit a local winery, or take a drive at sunset.

Why they chose this property

Our neighborhood is quiet, safe, and so close to town. Just 1/4 mile from the hospital and a couple of miles from groceries and fuel, our home offers convenience, in a scenic, rural setting. We are just beyond the reach of streetlights, so while we are close to town, our sky is dark for great stargazing, and enjoying the firepit at night. Getting out for a walk is as simple and stepping out the door, whether you prefer a flat or hilly walk, our neighborhood accommodates both, and we are just 1/4 mile from the Bedford Loop, a 3-mile sidewalk around town. Along the walks you'll catch views of the Blue Ridge parkway, and likely see deer and other wildlife. Pets are kept safely in yards, so you can enjoy exploring without worry of dogs, or people, making anything uncomfortable. Sit on the porch, have a walk, take a little drive, and enjoy the beauty Bedford has to offer.

What makes this property unique

Each window frames a beautiful nature scene ~ lush Sugar-Maples, The Blue Ridge Parkway in the distance, and a free and grassy back yard, all yours to enjoy! We pride ourselves in providing a clean and serene space. A covered porch, as well as an open deck allow for cooling off or soaking some Vitamin D ... star-gazing, or enjoying a family dinner. The entire living space has been freshly painted within the past two years ... some more recently. Bathrooms were recently renovated with beautiful new vanities and LVP flooring. The rest of the space has lovely hardwood floors. Both bedrooms have plenty of clothing storage, extra covers and pillows, and plenty of sunlight, as well as room-darkening shades for late-sleepers. Leather sofa, upholstered wing-back chairs, and a 65-inch tv connect the kitchen and living area, so enjoy a glass of wine, or a bowl of popcorn while you relax.

One of our favorite things about this home is the birds. Most of the year there are birds living in the trees nearby. They are especially active during Spring, Summer, and Fall. You'll likely see, or hear, Bluebirds, Cardinals, Carolina Wrens, Mockingbirds, Sparrows, Hawks, Crows, Blue-Jays, and sometimes Canadian Geese, flying in formation, morning and evening. It's a special treat to simply sit on the porch and listen. Recently, we've been enjoying a family of squirrels who live in the sugar maples, running and playing in the yard, and digging up their buried treasures to eat. In the springtime you may hear peepers ... little frogs ... at nearby water sources, and deer migrate through the yard daily, especially to enjoy the fruit and mulberry trees in neighboring yards. The neighborhood is very quiet, so the sights and sounds of nature are quite clear, and such a gift. Sit and listen ... and remember to look up at the stars.
