Think of me as your "virtual concierge" According to the Northside Chronicle, Northside has the most historical districts in the city. You and your guests will be staying in historic Deutschtown (pronounced "Doychtown")--named for the German immigrants that settled here in the 18th century. The Allegheny Commons park is Pittsburgh's oldest park— known for its mature canopy trees, beautiful fountain and lovely Lake Elizabeth. The park is within walking distance from the house You will also be steps away from fantastic pasta dishes and greens and beans at Legends Eatery a 2 minute walk away! just remember to BYOB. Max's Tavern is an authentic German no frills restaurant with a great little bar and cozy booths. If you are looking for something a little more fancy, Fig and Ash on East Ohio street offers delicious home-away-from-dishes led by one of Pittsburgh's top chefs. However, please remember to make a reservation so you can enjoy this unique spot. Yinz Coffee and Starbucks are both within walking distance on East North Ave. Randyland on Arch street is a wonderus experience and not to be missed-- 412 APoTHECA on Federal Street in the Mexican War Streets will delight your senses. Featuring a curated selection of bath, body & hair products as well as small gifts centered around self care. On the way to the Steeler game walk through the park to Western Ave. On Western you will find Reficlio Winery featuring Argentinian wines, The Modern Cafe—which opened in 1933 and has a great bar & good food, Nicky's Thai Kitchen and two breweries. You’ll also notice on East North Avenue the newly remolded Garden Theatre that looks beautiful when lit. Let it be known that North Side is full of diversity; there are rich, middle & those less fortunate trying to make their way. You’ll notice when you walk the neighborhood buildings being worked on, beautiful old homes & some places that need a face lift. But this adds to North Sides charm & ever changing spirit. The Andy Warhol Museum, The Mattress factory, Children's Museum, Acrisure Stadium, downtown Pittsburgh, Stage AE and PNC park are all within walking distance.
Walking is the you best bet to get to many attractions but Lyft and Uber are always available. There is also mobility hub on Western Avenue to rent e-scooters through the transit and spin apps. We recommend using UBER or LYFT to navigate in Pittsburgh as it can be tricky to drive---but compared to other cities the traffic is minimal.
➲To park free on street we will need: 1. State vehicle is registered in 2. Make of vehicle 3. Model of vehicle 4. License plate number
➲If you are renting a car please let me know and you can provide the information after picking up your car.
➲AGH parking: You can opt out of street parking and park in the hospital garage. The cost is approximately $24.00 per day.
➲This space is NOT ideal for guests with mobility limitations. There are many steps to the front porch, the suite and the 3rd floor.
➲Some of the buildings in the neighborhood (as in any city) are not in great shape but you’ll see many are being renovated. North Side has been flourishing in the past several years as you can tell by the renovation of the Garden Theater on West North Avenue.
➲Please note while exploring the neighborhood, you may encounter some of our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. We encourage guests to approach this with empathy and understanding. By choosing to stay in our rental you are directly contributing to the local economy and helping us create a more inclusive and compassionate neighborhood.
➲High Chair and pact and play: Please let us know if you need these essentials for your little one prior to arriving.

About the host
Hosted by Caroline Sefscik

I'm from a small rural town about 90 minutes away from the city and I've called Pittsburgh my home for the past 25 years. Growing up in a small community makes me appreciate Pittsburgh's "big little" city vibe. Not only for the sporting events, but history and culture can be found around every corner—-from East Allegheny (Deutschtown) to the North Shore and The Strip District to Mt. Washington—there is something for everyone. I have been hosting since August 2022 and I have found creating an inviting, warm and relaxing space for our guests to enjoy is so rewarding. Comfy and cozy are my favorite adjectives. —-I'm just a little obsessed about it. My husband and I are parents to an 14 year old hockey player we adore and most weekends we are cheering him on at his games. Yoga is my therapy, I "attempt" playing the piano, and wine and conversation make me happy.
Happy Traveling my friends—Cheers!

Why they chose this property
We chose this home not only for its beautiful brick exterior but also for its perfect location on James Street in Pittsburgh’s North Side. This vibrant neighborhood offers a unique blend of historic charm and modern energy. Cobblestone streets wind past quaint shops, inviting cafes, restaurants, and pubs, while the historic architecture adds character, making it an ideal spot for visitors seeking a truly authentic Pittsburgh experience.
Originally settled by German immigrants in the mid-19th century, Deutschtown has retained much of its cultural heritage. Tree-lined streets, row houses, and some grand homes reflect the neighborhood’s rich and affluent past. It’s also home to Pittsburgh’s oldest parks, providing green spaces for relaxing strolls, outdoor activities, and community events.
In recent years, Deutschtown has undergone thoughtful revitalization, with local businesses, restaurants, and cafes contributing to its lively, welcoming atmosphere. The proximity to Allegheny General Hospital makes this location particularly convenient for families visiting patients or for traveling healthcare professionals. Street parking is generally accessible and free with validation, and additional parking is available in the hospital’s lot if needed.
Overall, we were drawn to James Street for its historic beauty, walkable charm, and unbeatable convenience, making it the perfect neighborhood for our home and for sharing the best of Pittsburgh with our guests.
