PHONE SERVICE: Cell phone reception is generally good, but it can be spotty at times. We are in the mountains.

CHILDREN: This house is not child-proofed for young children. There are also no accommodations for babies.

SUPPLIES: Groceries and supplies are available within 5 to 10 miles, but we suggest guests bring what they may need for immediate use so they can stay and relax on the property for their first meals, if so desired.

NO SMOKING POLICY due to guest and owner allergies. You will be charged an extra cleaning fee of $200 if you smoke inside the cabin. If you smoke outside please dispose of your cigarette butts properly.

We've stayed at Larry's Mountain Cabin three times now. It has always been clean and ready when we arrive. The location is great place to get away from it all. I went on a day hike up Winter Star Road to the High Grade and then the Black Mountain Crest Trail to Horse Rock Bald. The views were amazing! There are scars from the damage caused by Hurricane Helene, but it is still a beautiful area.

The Perfect Family Mountain GetawayWe had an absolutely wonderful stay at this cabin! It was comfortable, inviting, and the perfect place for our family to relax and enjoy the beauty of the North Carolina mountains. The peaceful setting made it feel like a true getaway, while still providing a convenient home base for exploring Burnsville, Little Switzerland, Linville Falls, the South Toe River, and everything else the area has to offer.Our boys loved the adventure of being in the mountains, and we appreciated having such a comfortable place to return to at the end of each day. Whether we were heading out to explore or simply relaxing at the cabin and enjoying the surroundings, it was exactly the kind of family vacation we had hoped for.We made some terrific memories here and would gladly stay again. An easy five-star recommendation for anyone looking for a peaceful and memorable mountain escape!

We have stayed at several different locations along the Appalachian Mountains from the Smoky Mountains to High County off the Blue Ridge mountains, and this location is our new favorite. The cabin was perfect, 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms a decent sized kitchen and the community is very peaceful, quiet and far from any form of city. The kids had a great time playing in the creeks and walking along the gravel roads, the people who live there are very friendly and it reminds me of my childhood growing up in the mountains. There a abundance of wildlife seen a few mama bears and cubs and lots of deer driving in and out. Burnsville isn't that far of a drive but it is mountain road driving, and there is a waste convenience center located past the fire station on your way to Burnsville. (do not leave food in your car and keep it locked, bears) The drive to the cabin is a gravel road with several switchbacks and Google maps gets confused from the vertical climb, I absolutely loved the drive but it took my wife a little bit to get used to it (she refused to drive) it's also good to have heavy all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive vehicle, it rained quite a bit while we were there. What's nice is no one is going to up there without a purpose and that makes it even more peaceful. We will definitely try to come back to this place.

Great Getaway

This is a nice cabin high up in the mountains. It’s a beautiful area and the cabin was a great place to rest for the week. We were still able to go on adventures that were about an hour away from the cabin. I would highly recommend this if you enjoy a secluded area all to yourself.

It had been cleaned but it seemed like it was a while ago. There were dead bugs on the floor. There were also some live jumping spiders in the tub and sink. There was very little water pressure in either bathroom. The tile heaters didn’t work.

Unfortunately here in the mountains even two or three days after cleaning a property there can be some dead bugs especially in the fall months. We never let a property sit more than 3 days after being cleaned without having it checked before a guest arrives. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this presented during your stay. Thank you for letting us know about the tile heaters I have made sure to make the homeowners and maintenance aware of this.

The house is really nice, and in a great location. It is way off the main road, and you might need 4wd to get there depending on the weather. My only issue I have with this listing is the rules. They supply a very limited quantity of things like toilet paper, paper towels, etc. If I am paying to use this location, I would expect all of that to be included. And the trash situation is unreasonable. If I am paying for the cleaning, the house should have onsite trash containers, and it shouldn't be my responsibility to take the trash with me to another location.

Hidden Mountain Gem

Larry’s Mountain Cabin is the perfect getaway. The Cattail Community is about 20 minutes from the quaint (but growing) town of Burnsville at approximately 4200ft elevation. This cabin is beautifully renovated with a kitchen stocked with plenty of cookware, dishes and appliances- including a blender, toaster oven and hand held mixer (for the bakers in your group). We are coffee drinkers so the drip coffee pot was almost always going. The house is superbly clean with comfortable beds, soft sheets and towels. Our family has rented VRBO’s all over the US. We only ever stay once at other places but we keep coming back to Larry’s Mountain Cabin. If you are a hiker or just want to relax on the big porch while listening to the sounds of Cattail Creek this is the place for you! Thank you Melissa and Helen for fantastic communication throughout our experience.

The cabin was very remote and had great views. The patio was amazing. It was very quiet. Only thing you could hear was the brook way below the cabin. The email prior to arriving had great directions and made it easy to find. It was well stocked with everything we needed for our trip. The only thing I thought was missing that I could have used was a hair dryer. They also stated that if we wanted a later check out, it needed to be arranged prior. I reached out and they said it needed to be asked the day/night before. I reached out again and they never answered, so that was a little annoying, but we ended up not needed it luckily. The cabin itself was great and we would definitely want to return to this cabin as it was clean (there were a few bugs, but that is to be expected up in the mountains). I was also a little worried as there was a bathroom trash can that was filled with trash already and they are very strict about their two trash can limit, but that ended up not being a problem either as we only had one bag of trash by the end of our trip. The fireplace was great and they stocked us with plenty of firewood and kindling wood to get it started. They also had the fridge stocked with water which we also appreciated. We would recommend this cabin for a romantic getaway or even a group trip since there were three bedrooms. Just be aware that there are quite a few rules not mentioned before you book!
