About this property

New Cabin on 12 Acres w/Hot Tub Right off the Blue Ridge Pkwy! Pastoral Bliss

Our beautiful cabin, built in11/2018, is ready for you to enjoy! Some of our guests have been wanting a larger cabin than our cozy and lovely first two, and we are happy to now offer a cabin with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, as well as larger living areas, porch and hot tub. We believe it will be perfect for 2 to 4 adults, and it also contains a convertible couch for children if needed.

The new cabin is separated by Christmas and other trees from the other two cabins so that it provides the level of privacy that our guests expect and appreciate. We also are adding additional landscaping close to the house during the winter and spring, including rhododendrons, azaleas, mountain laurel, and other native plants and fruit trees.

In front of the cabin is an open field that is frequented by deer and turkey, and beyond is a wooded knoll with the Black Mountains behind that. The view from the porch is lovely, including a view of our spring fed pond. The creek beyond the pond runs along the front of our property. We also again put our hot tub on an open part of the deck so guests can enjoy the stars and fireflies while they soak at night. The rest of the porch is covered and perfect for enjoying rain, fog and/or sunny days as you lounge in the furniture.

Every season has a special beauty here and we love it all the time. Winter brings the best views and sunsets, and a special peace when the occasional snow arrives. Summer is best for outdoor activities, and both the spring and fall have the most color. Spring starts in March with crocus, tulips and then daffodils and reaches its peak in late May and early June when the native catawba rhododendrons, mountain laurel and azaleas are in full bloom. A visit to Roan Mountain and Carver s Gap is recommended in any season, but its natural rhododendron gardens are not to be missed in early June. Except for possibly July, October is the peak of the tourist season as everyone loves to see the changing leaves of fall.

If you tire of enjoying the property, there are plenty of alternatives for fun in the area, particularly if you enjoy nature. The cabin is only 2 miles from downtown Little Switzerland, which includes a famous old hotel and restaurant, a second restaurant that serves delicious lunches, and a great book store. However, the biggest asset of this beautiful area is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which can be entered or exited at the foot of the Switzerland Inn. We provide our guests with a written memorandum of many things to do in the area ranging from hikes and views, drives, activities ranging from horseback riding and white water rafting to things like visiting museums and gem mines or going for a day or evening to Asheville. But the focus on a trip to Little Switzerland and our property should be to enjoy nature, natural beauty, and peace. We say that a visit to our property is like soul shine, and it is best enjoyed when you arrive with an open mind, ready to enjoy whatever direction your spirit takes and the weather permits during your time here. It's a magical area and incredible beauty is found in all seasons.

Great place
We enjoyes our stay, just wish we had known EVERYTHING around shuts down and is closed until March 1! It would have been nice to know ahead of time. We have been to this little cabin once before, we did enjoy our visit and managment was very helpful with our internet issues and weather concerns. I would suggest updating the couch and beds. But absolutely recommend this little cabin for a quiet visit to the mountains!

Very Nice
Excellent stay. Convenient to a lot of entertainment but away enough to get away. The night sky view and view from deck is breathtaking. House was clean and comfortable. The WiFi is limited but wasn’t an issue with all the stuff to do around the area.

Cabin 3
Very nice place. Well equiped. Only thing that needs improvement in my opinion, HVAC registers are rusty and should be replaced.

Hi, we are Steve and Soony Pearson, respectively the General Manager and Communications Manager of Logs and Stones Vacation Rentals, LLC. We split our time between a log home in Little Switzerland and Miami, where we are from. Steve is soon retiring as an arboretum director at the University of Miami and he is passionate about plants and their importance. We are looking forward to being able to spend a bigger portion of our time in North Carolina, and expand a collection of rare trees that we have started on the property. We love this part of NC and our property, and you will too!

While we are actively involved in our business, we also depend on our friends Doug McKinney working as Property Manager, and his wife Betty McKinney working as Hospitality Manager. Doug's family has been in this area for many generations (you will drive on 'McKinney Mine Road' to reach our cabin!), and he has a wealth of information about same and North Carolina mountain living. He and Betty are also genuinely nice people who live less than a half mile from the cabin.

We believe that we have a great team in place, and all of us are committed to insuring that your stay in the cabin will be fun and memorable. So come enjoy yourself and recharge in this exceptionally nice log cabin in a beautiful area. We think its as close to heaven as you can get in this world.

Why they chose this property

There are many lovely areas and nice properties in the mountains of North Carolina. However, there aren't many areas where you can also get a taste of traditional mountain living. While quaint and charming, Little Switzerland is not, and hopefully never will be, a tourist mecca for the masses or an exclusive, wealthy enclave like some areas have become. This is partly due to geography (its at the 'Crest of the Blue Ridge'), but also because there is a lot of preserved wilderness in the area. Yes, things like golf are available locally and some homes are very expensive, but this is not an area where there are too many houses crammed together to share a view, or that commercializes the area. This is rural mountains, yet close to modern amenities. You will drive by fields with horses and cows, and you will open a world of vistas and scenery when you get on the Blue Ridge Parkway, whether for fun or simply to get groceries, which are only 6 miles from the cabin. This property is peaceful and bucolic, with lots of wildlife, and it's in an area that still has a smattering of true characters who keep mountain independence alive. But its also convenient and easy to use. So, if you want to stay in a great cabin on a lovely property where you can still experience 'old North Carolina,' including authentic mountain music, then come try our cabin and this area. Its soul shine!

After looking ALL over western North Carolina, we decided that Little Switzerland was the perfect fit between a rural/natural setting while also being close to stores and modern needs. We love it and believe you will also.

What makes this property unique

Our property is a special mix of terrains. Not many places offer mountain views, open pasture, forested knolls, a spring fed pond, and a creek, but you can experience and explore all of those here.

The owners' long term goals are to maintain the property as a nature preserve while also planting out what will become a de facto botanical garden. Lots of interesting species have already been planted, and one of the things that prompted this land's purchase was its diversity, even including a small area that is high mountain bog.

Our property affords a unique opportunity to feel like you have 'gotten away from it all', while having the comfort of knowing that if you need goods or services, or even medical care, they are not far away.

And PLEASE consider our cabin if you are a young family looking for a family get away. The couch in the cabin converts to a bed that can sleep up to 2 children, and one of our motivations in starting this business was to afford young children the same opportunity that I enjoyed and benefited from as a child - the chance to explore and discover nature, and to run wild and free in a natural environment, which unfortunately is far from the realm of experience of most children today. I know that the childhood adventures I enjoyed during summers in the NC mountains were some of the best times of my life, and that they changed me in some important and positive ways. Please consider affording your children these kinds of experiences. Staying in our cabin can be a great opportunity for your family to re-bond in a positive and meaningful way.
