It was nice, the drive was definitely nerve wracking on wet roads but my AWD had no trouble making it up there. It was smaller than expected but served is purpose. The beds were SO comfortable but we couldn't get the TV or fireplace to work. The house ladbugs were our favorite! We cooked, sorry and left.
Beautiful and peaceful location with cozy accommodations. Thoroughly enjoyed both the location in one of the most tranquil spots you will find east of the Mississippi. I rarely get a chance to getaway and cannot think of a better place to have been to enjoy that time. Great proximity to Banner Elk and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Everything about our little getaway was what we had in mind. Very peaceful and it was very nice to relax in the hot tub. We also went on a walk around the property! 10/10 recommend and we will be booking again!
Very private and quite. Just what i needed. We enjoied exploring the history of the area from Elk Park to linville falls, especilly Crosnore
I would recommend this property to those wanting a secluded get away.
Owner is easy to communicate with and over all a very nice rental
My best friend and I decided to take a quick girls trip and it was one of the best ones we have taken. Peaceful seclusion and just the two of us was all we wanted and that’s exactly what we got. We will definitely book again and highly recommend for anyone wanting to get away from it all!
We came up for a late anniversary celebration. The property is on a mountain. With front-wheel drive you would not have any issues driving up. The property is beautiful, lots of space, lovely apple trees, pond was nice to fish from. We sat outside every morning with our coffee. Our inside dog loved sitting on the porch all day.
This was such an amazing property! 100 acres all to ourselves and they even allowed pets, so our dogs were able to have a wonderful time on all 100 acres!! The hot tub was the cherry on top!! We are positively going back again!

Some people love the place based on the number of positive reviews, but we didn’t have a good experience. As other guests have said, the road to the cabin is steep. It was also snowy and icy in places from the weather that came through the previous week. We drove up after dark which made it a little more challenging. It’s an old farm house and the temperature inside was in the 30’s when we arrived. The baseboard heaters did little to heat up the place. I’m wondering if the propane was out because the stove didn’t work either. There was a fire place and a few pieces of wood, but we couldn’t find supplies to start the fire.Long story short We left the first night and ended up staying elsewhere. I’m sure the property has a lot to offer when you can get out and explore, but this isn’t a place that I would rent again in the winter months. We have been renting VRBO places for 20 years. I can normally get a good idea about a place from reading reviews and looking at pictures. I missed the mark on this one.
We were in need of a little getaway. A time to reset. This was the place! Our dogs loved the open property to run; we loved the hot tub to relax; and the overall seclusion was super.
We had a great time at the cabin over this past weekend. Very secluded location but close by to many attractions for hiking. The road is very steep so heed the warning about 4WD or AWD. The directions provided were spot on. The surrounding property was gorgeous with many wildflowers, wild life & so many apple trees. The hot tub was relaxing & porch was great for our morning coffee. The cabin was appointed with all of the cooking gear we needed to prepare meal. One word of warning is there is no air conditioning but thankfully it was a fairly cool weekend. Amazing stay overall!
If was an excellent place to stay at! The scenery and atmosphere was awesome. The cabin is great if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and just want to be at peace. We have a great time being outside and especially in the hot tub.
We definitely will be coming back!
Thank you for having us!

I am originally from North Carolina and Diana is from New York and we met and married in South Florida. Its the classic tale of country boy meets city girl and the rest is history. We have 4 grown children and 5 grandchildren who we love spending time with. We enjoy nature and the great outdoors which is the main reason that we purchased Doublehead Mountain Retreat and the more than 100 acres of wild mountain land around it.
Why they chose this property
While growing up in a small North Carolina town as a child we took frequent trips to the NC mountains to enjoy the cool mountain air as well as the endless activities including fishing, hiking, caving and tubing -rafting down the numerous area rivers. When I first saw this property and Its seclusion I knew that this would be the place that our family would enjoy and make many memories. We are within walking distance to several caves, waterfalls and stocked trout streams as well as being able to enjoy our own 1 acre pond right in front of our cabin. Our cabin is also a short drive to many of the High Country attractions including Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, Mount Mitchell( Highest Elevation east of the Mississippi River), Beech and Sugar Mountain Ski Resorts and many white water rafting and ziplining excursions.
What makes this property unique
The reason I love this place is the seclusion and remoteness of this property. Although there are a few other cabins in the area ,you cant see any from our cabin. We are not in a development not subject to any rules and regulations.(Jim) To be able to unplug and decompress in nature without WiFI/Internet (I begged Jim not to have a TV, but I lost that fight...lol) puts life back into perspective and grounds you to what`s really important in life, being one with our Creator through the amazing natural creations that we take for granted and to truly connect w/ your love ones in peace and tranquility. Plus it is a great place to write and take nature pictures!!~Diana
