Play ladder toss in the back yard or just sit and relax and take in the nature all around you.

Home is 1,016 sq ft. Plenty of room for you and your family but close enough in the open floor plan to spend time together.

Property is located off of 226A which is the Diamondback Motorcycle and Sportscar Route. The Diamondback, NC's 226A is loaded with switchbacks looping almost 360-degrees. Runs of S-curves climb and twist sharply as they snake through lush green forest in route to the Blue Ridge Parkway just above Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Sweeping curves, amazing scenery and cool mountain breezes make the Diamondback, NC 226A, one of western NC's last great mountain roadways. Take a drive along the Diamondback for a fun drive and beautiful views.

The cabin is nice and secluded. The grounds are great, we loved all of the outdoor space. Nice drive to tons of waterfalls and hiking. The cabin had everything we needed and was very comfortable.

Quick weekend.

Property was so quiet! Would suggest a vehicle that can handle the uneven roads. Stream noise was so incredibly relaxing. Close to Little Switzerland, Burnsville, Marion and Black Mountain. Great 2 day get away!

The place is super secluded, about 30 minutes from town. It’s private and peaceful, with a soothing stream in the background. The pond is full of fish, which is why we booked it. Everyone caught fish and had a blast. The home comes stocked with DVDs for family movie night, which was also a hit. I think for what you book this place for and the area, it’s great. For me personally, the home is a bit dark, musty, and smells of pets with pet hair around the place. The kids loved their room. Overall, it’s a great getaway in the woods, tucked away, and a country vacation. You can’t expect luxury living, like fancy bedding or bathrooms, but it definitely has its own charm!

Weekend Getaway

We had a delightful time at this serene, beautiful home. Sitting by the pond listening to the nearby creek, enveloped in nature was a welcome reprieve. The cabin was clean, cozy, and beautifully appointed. The owners were wonderfully communicative. We would definitely visit again.

Great Weekend at the Duck Pond!

Gorgeous property! So relaxing, just sitting on the porch, listening to the stream go by. The duck pond was great, too--had tons of newts to watch from the pier. Close to so much--if you're not having a good time here, be it relaxing or on the move, you're doing it wrong! Will definitely be back, for sure.

Short Trip to North Carolina Mountains

We were very happy with the accommodations! Beautiful private setting - easy check in - Wifi & TV. This listing was everything it said it would be & more (except for the fishing which wasn't great - there are fish in the pond they just were not cooperating LOL). Did not realize that it was actually located directly on 226A or would have brought dual sport to enjoy. So happy I could enjoy having my dog with us & she had a wonderful time too. Would recommend this cabin highly!!

Everything you would want in a mountain cabin you will find at Duck Pond!

We have stayed at Duck Pond before and thoroughly enjoyed that stay so much we knew we would return. Don and Laura go out of their way to make sure their guests have everything they need for an enjoyable and relaxing stay. The accommodations and property are great! Although we want to keep this little hide-away a secret so it’s available for us, we have referred two families from our church/school to Duck Pond. It’s too good not to share!

Pictures don’t do it justice

Your property is gorgeous! The pictures did not show how big and beautiful it is up there tucked away in the mountains. The couch could be a bit cozier — after hiking, our muscles were really sore and it was difficult to rack out on that couch. The futon is an interesting choice. You should get a foot stool or ottoman for the couch. Pictures of the bathrooms would also help your listing.

A Glorious Weekend in Marion NC

Duck Pond Mountain Retreat is our new favorite getaway spot! The house truly comes "fully equipped," including a terrific kitchen, two comfortable bedrooms, and two spacious bathrooms. But the location is like something out of a dream. Sitting on the front porch with drinks, we loved to watch the light change over the pond and surrounding woods. Not an unwelcome sound was to be heard, just nature as God intended it. We will be back, and hopefully often!

It was very clean and very well appointed. We travel with a container of stuff that is usually not found in the kitchen and I don’t think we needed anything from it. The property was just as described and we enjoyed hearing the babbling brook and sitting by the pond. The only thing missing was any wildlife, no ducks or any other critter. We used the grill and the fire pit and made s’mores.

About the host

Hosted by Don and Laura

Host profile image
Our family has been coming to the mountains a couple times a year to camp for many years. We purchased this property in July of 2015 because we wanted a place for our family to vacation with some acreage and privacy. We found this amazing property in Little Switzerland and fell in love with the serenity and privacy. We wanted a place with water and since it has a large pond with ducks and a stream that borders the length of the property it was perfect. My husband wanted a place where he could be active and enjoy the property and I wanted a place to relax. We also wanted a place that we could get to within 2 hours from our home in the Charlotte, NC area. Duck Pond fits all of these needs.

Why they chose this property

Since purchasing this property we have scoured local shops to furnish and decorate this home with a cabin feel and have included local artistry touches. We have worked to provide everything you might need to feel at home and to enjoy yourself. We welcome any feedback or suggestions for how we can make your stay more comfortable.

What makes this property unique

Duck Pond is centrally located between Little Switzerland, Spruce Pine, Marion & Old Fort. Also within 30-60 minutes we can be in Black Mountain, Asheville, Boone, Morganton, Burnsville & Mt Mitchell.

Little Switzerland NC is a colony high in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The elevations here, ranging from 3200 feet in the village to 4000 feet at the top of Grassy Mountain, offer incredible views of Mt. Mitchell to the west, Table Rock, Hawsksbill and Grandfather Mountain to the east, and the valleys of the South Toe, Turkey Cove and the bustling Catawba Valley. Little Switzerland was named because of its sweeping panoramas of deep valleys and distant ranges resembling those of the foothills of the Swiss Alps. Little Switzerland is located at exit 334 off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
