Ascension Cabin is a log home on 1 acre of land overlooking a small stream with wooded views five minutes from Summersville Lake, with New River Gorge a short drive down the highway. The cabin has a traditional feel with a comfy gas burning fireplace, plus modern amenities like high-speed internet and smart TVs. Outside is an elevated deck with grill and outdoor dining, plus a barrel sauna, hot tub, lounge chairs and your choice of a wood-burning fire pit or gas fire table.
Ascension is a single level cabin with 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms. Our kitchen is fully supplied for your cooking, baking or grilling needs. Our coffee bar has several options for your morning brew, and there’s a great coffee shop 5 minutes from the cabin. Relax on the swing on the front porch or enjoy our outdoor amenities on our rear deck and large backyard. We have foosball, Pac-man and streaming TV for indoor entertainment. The cabin has a gas-powered whole-home generator as a backup in case of power outages.
We welcome well-behaved dogs (non-aggressive breeds) at the house. We do ask that dogs stay off beds and furniture (we provide a doggy bed) and that guests properly dispose of pet waste. Dogs must be under direct supervision of owners, and not left alone at the house uncrated. We provide bowls for food and water, but guests must bring dog food.
The cabin has Starlink internet, with the "best effort" plan. Speeds can be very high late at night and very good during the day, but you may notice slower speeds during peak evening hours.
Please note there are two outside motion-activated Ring security cameras, one on the east side of the cabin facing the driveway, the other on the west side facing the road.

We wanted to hike and it seemed that this cabin was equidistant from the parks we wanted to visit. Very easy to get around to Babcock, New River Gorge, Gauley River, Fayetteville and Summersville. This cabin would be great for a small family because of the fenced yard and the swing set. We sat out on the table on the deck every night. It's on a dead end road so we weren't bothered with neighbors too close to Ascension. No complaints for our annual sisters trip.
Cozy, relaxing cabin! Host was very helpful and communicated immediately. Very close to the National Park and many more local trails. Our dogs loved running around the large yard!
The property was amazing. Every amenities were avaliable to us during our stay. It was very private which was awesome since we are from the city. It was a short drive from summersville lake. Would definitely bring my family back here again. And thanks Darien for being a amazing host.
The house was perfect for our family. There was plenty of room for everyone. The backyard with hot tub, fire pit, and deck was our main hangout. We had everything we needed for a good vacation.
We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was quiet and relaxing. It was the most stocked place we have ever stayed at. Everything you may need or forgot was available
Beautiful home in a great location. Very clean. We loved the hot tub and the fire pit. Lots a small touches that made us feel right at home. I highly recommend this property.
Beautiful home in a quiet wooded area. The home was clean and the owner was very communicative. My entire family enjoyed their stay and commented on the wonderful accommodations. I would definitely stay here again when visiting the area! If I could give 10 stars instead of 5, I would!
We had a very nice stay in this property with our pup. The property had a secluded feel but was within easy driving distance of many attractions of the Summersville Lake/New River Gorge National Park area. We were only one couple, but with two master bedrooms and two full bathrooms and a nice hot tub for 6, it could easily accommodate another couple, plus an extra room for little kids. Being dog-friendly with a large fenced-in yard was a plus.
My family and I had a great stay here while visiting New River Gorge National Park. It’s right by Summersville Lake and about 20min away from the Fayetteville area / north part of New River Gorge National Park. In a neighborhood but private and secluded. Our host Darien checked in frequently and communicated everything we needed ahead of time and during our stay. There were plenty of towels and the bathrooms and kitchen were well stocked. Internet was fast and TVs equipped for streaming. We also enjoyed the hot tub and outdoor fire pit. The PacMan, foosball table, and dog toys were also a nice touch.

Average Value for Money
Overall, the property is decent. However, it could use some maintenance and care, especially given the rate that I paid for it. For instance, the bathtub that is in one of the two bathrooms doesn't drain properly. It is no problem if taking a bath, but it forces a quick shower so as not to be standing in a pool of grimy water. The floors could have used a better cleaning, especially with the owner charging a cleaning fee and requiring clean-up during check-out.
When we arrived at the property it was evident the listing picts were deceiving. The outside fire pit was in shambles & overgrown with weeds. The play set was unsafe to swing on as the support area was broken. The house was not cleaned properly. Lots of hair/etc on the floor & under the couch that kept slipping out of place exposing the years worth of living under it. There was dried poop on a toilet seat & all the light switches were disgusting. There were missing pictures with nails in the walls everywhere.
I contacted the owner that night & he said he’d talk to his wife & get back to me in the morning. That never happened. Instead we received a $250 refund on our CC. When I pay over $3200 (all fees etc) for a week stay, I expect better or at least what I thought I was paying for.
Pro’s-well stocked kitchen.

We regret not creating the satisfying experience that our other guests have had. This particular guest mentioned most of these items her first night at the cabin, and I asked for pictures since there were numerous claims. I received pictures of blank sections of wall where she had expected pictures to be hung, one wall with a few nail holes (which have since been patched), minor grout wear outside the bathtub, and one of the fire pit area. The fire pit did have some weeds, which have since been pulled. No pictures were available for the other items inside as they had "already been cleaned" by the guest, so we did give her the benefit of the doubt and provided what we felt was a fair refund amount. Though no direct request was made, comments from the guest implied that a much larger refund was expected. No mention was made of the playset, either to me or to our handyman who came during the week for some unrelated work. If we thought it was not safe to use, we'd send someone out to fix it ASAP. I've looked at it since and saw that everything appears solid, but will add reinforcement to the support area to be sure that it remains strong in the future. After our experience with this group, we now ask our cleaning staff to take pictures a when they are done to ensure that the cabin is in tip top shape for all our guests, and to help resolve any future disputes that might happen.
