Updated Riverfront Cottage with Lake Access & StarLink, for Recreationalists!
Welcome to the North River Retreat! This is a (non-smoking and no-ashtray) riverfront cottage with diverse wildlife, and bodes well for outdoor adventurer families/friends/couples looking to fish, boat, kayak and more. Wake to the morning sunrise on the deck or dock, coffee in hand, listening to the sounds of the river. Experience sun exposure all day, sunrise to sunset. For rainy days and to stay connected we have STARLINK Internet & AMAZON Fire TV, board games, and a Mini original Nintendo.
Your rental will come with the use of a paddleboat and two kayaks. Bring-Your-Own Watercrafts is encouraged! Drop your watercraft in the lake at the public boat launch, south on Anderson Road (Google "Anderson Road, K0L 1Z0")! From there, boat to our dock in a few minutes. Fish populations are plentiful. Large and Smallmouth Bass, many Bluegill/Perch/Rock Bass for kids, Muskie and Pickerel in the lake. The ecosystem on this river is lively beyond fish, from birds to river otters, herons, frogs, turtles and more.
Please note the riverfront is NOT for the primary beachcomber looking to lay and swim at a beach or lakefront! Lily pads and weed growth are plentiful, summer & fall. We do run a water circulator during summer rental season to keep the water as clear as we can for enjoyment off the dock. Catch a tan by laying on the dock or floating in the river, and refresh in the water with a swim off the dock-end or deeper part of the river. If you fancy walking into waters from shore, there are public boat launches on Round Lake you can visit, Booster Park Beach on Crowe Lake, or public waterfront spaces on Stony Lake (like Quarry Bay Beach, 17 minutes drive).
To save you money, we charge a nominal cleaning fee per stay. In return, we ask that you voluntarily bring your own linens (bathing towels, pillow cases, and bed sheets or sleeping bags) for your stay. Bed sizes: one twin, one double, one queen, and a pull-out sofa. Having said that, there are lots of pillows, and the beds shall be tidy for your arrival. If you forgot linens, you may find sets for use at additional charges ($10 per room per night may be added to your final pricing at check-out, to cover cleaning and laundering requirements).

Beautiful clean cottage. Huge deck with gate. Paddle boat and kayaks. The river is so beautiful and peaceful.I brought my dogs and they had a fantastic time jumping off the dock. Would recommend!
Our second year staying here and we loved our week! The cottage is small but perfect for our family of four. Clean and has all the essential items. Brad was friendly and communicated quickly, giving us tips to make our stay really wonderful. It's very kid friendly, my kids loved catching sunfish off the dock, rides in the paddleboat and kayaks and of course the playground out front. Listing is accurate - not a great spot for avid swimmers. There are many weeds but we made use of the floaties and we enjoyed being near the water and the beautiful views from the dock or deck by the cottage. Very quiet spot during the week. We would love to come back again next year!

The cottage itself is nice. A few things I wasn't impressed with. The location of the cottage to the highway, not being able to swim off the dock, very small hot water tank, water turned ice cold very quickly. No large bowls, say to make a salad in. The remote for the TV is broken, inconvenient to have to get up to turn off and on and adjust volume on the tv itself.Things we enjoyed, nice large deck, very spacious kitchen, bed was comfy, close to town for any needed supplies.Overall it was nice.

Dear guest,
Many renters feel the ease of access to the cottage and to surrounding towns and villages a big benefit! In terms of swimming, if you read our full property description you will see that our listing does inform potential guests that this is not the same as a lakeshore/lakefront cottage. We maintain transparency of this! The welcome binder left in the kitchen does inform guests that a previous renter damaged the RCA TV remote (sucks I know!), which is why we leave the input on the HDMI setting for the Amazon TV and connect the Amazon audio to the Bluetooth soundbar allowing you to control volume with the same Amazon remote! All you need to do is power on the TV on and off when desired. Most people appreciate even just having STARLINK wifi, Amazon streaming services, the Nintendo gaming console optional when vacationing at a cottage.
North River Retreat
Spent a great week at Brad’s cottage on North River. We made great use of the 2 kayaks, it was a beautiful paddle down the river to Round Lake. Cottage was clean, comfortable, and very well equipped.
This is our 2nd stay at this lovely home. Well equipped kitchen, very clean and spacious place. Convenient fishing off the dock or you can kayak/ paddle boat out. Very helpful and responsive host. Excellent place to stay!
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage! Beautiful place, well maintained clean property . The cottage was spacious and had everything we needed for cooking and bbq. I really enjoyed watching sunrise and star gazing by the river. We will definitely come back next year!
We had a great time at the river retreat! The cottage is perfectly comfortable and has gorgeous views of the river. The hosts are generous and very attentive and super helpful and quick to respond. Kayaking in the river was amazing and lots of wildlife to see and hear.
We had a great time, got some rest and had a lot of fun. Kids enjoyed the pedal boat and fishing, my mom (76) enjoyed the balcony and we all loved our stay. Bras is very nice and answered all our questions. Great please to stay!
Very cute cottage, lovely large deck outback overlooking the water, beds were very comfortable, lots of space in the kitchen and paddle boat and kayak were a hit with the kids. Would definitely recommend and would return. 🙂

Thank you Julie please consider visiting again next year!
My wife and I spent 3 nights at this cottage and we had a great time. We were very impressed with this cottage! Very well equiped, extremely comfortable, and stunning views. The host Bradly was quick to respond to our messages and was very helpful during our stay, even gave us lots of advises and suggestions before we arrived. Loved it and hope to be back again one day soon.
The cottage was beautiful! We loved our stay, it was quiet and peaceful. We fished off the dock, floated around and went for some paddleboat rides along the river. The cottage has all the basic necessities and was clean and comfortable. We spent most of our time on the big deck over looking the river or on the dock. It was about 10m into town which was perfect for supplies. The property was perfect for my little guys (3 and 5), they found lots of wildlife, played on the playground and fished all day. Brad was very communicative and helpful. We will be back next year for sure!
We spent a fall weekend with our 8-year-old and dogs. We all had a great time. The property is exactly as described. We spent much of our time on the river and the fire pit at the edge of the river was wonderful. Comfortable home with everything you need. It was great to have shopping amenities 8 minutes away. Overall perfect for what we wanted and we'd be happy to return.
Brad is the bestest host! He is very friendly and very helpful. He responsed very quickly to all of my inquiries. His place is very clean and tidy and very well equipted, it feels just like home. The senery is beautiful, you can enjoy it all day starting at breakfast :) Beds are comfortable and I love his dinning table.
Me and my friends really enjoyed our stay at Brad's lovely place. We will definitely be back again.
The cottage was excellent for our needs of fishing. It was clean and easy to navigate with all the item at hand. With the understanding the cottage itself was not a luxurious place where my wife would like to stay. But thats another story. All in everyone was very happy. IIIsewavehawthstay.woulsdwould be
The cottage is really cute and everything is as described. Great value for the money. Beds are really comfy!!! and the dining table is large and can easily fit a big family or group of friends. The water pump on the dock does a good job of keeping the lily pads under control but it doesn't eliminate them entirely so it's not ideal for swimming -- however, we found that floating on the inner tubes to be the perfect solution. There are owner items in the cottage so it's important to keep an eye out for anything labeled 'Owner Stock.' I missed a label and unfortunately consumed something that did not belong to me. I notified Brad and he was very gracious and allowed me apologize for the mix-up which was appreciated. Brad is also really quick to respond to questions and wants to know about any issues that may need addressing. (We're landlords too and understand this very well.)The cottage has a really nice stereo system and great collection of CDs!!! This was our primary entertainment and great music makes great memories!!The only issue we ran into was needing to do a little cleaning. The fridge, countertops and stereo cabinet needed a good wiping down. The microwave needs attention. Other than that, we would definitely rent again and we're grateful for the hosts who continue making their properties available to the public year after year!
Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à Round Lake et nous recommandons le logement sans réserves.

About the host
Hosted by North River Retreat
We want and hope others can come and enjoy the Ontario out of doors, in a clean and quaint, newly renovated (inside and out!) four-season waterfront property!
Why they chose this property
It is quiet and peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle. There are few other residence in this area. It feels like seclusion and tranquility only minutes from town and the Trans-Canada-Highway (ON Highway 7 to Ottawa). The cottage looks directly south down a beautiful winding river. Simply sitting on the deck with a coffee or tea, listening to the wildlife can be enjoyment enough! Want to be active? Paddleboat or Kayak the river! Active individuals should have no problem kayaking south to Round Lake right from the dock!
What makes this property unique
This property displays granite rock, marking the southern beginnings of the Canadian Shield. It is quaint and peaceful, and we are seeking guests looking for the same. We can't overstate the abundance of wildlife. Birds and hummingbirds, River Otters, Blue Herons every morning & Owls and Eastern Whippoorwills in the evening. Firefly season is a spectacle of lights! Varying species of fish (bluegill, rockbass, muskie, large and small mouth bass, walleye, etc.). Loons will come from Round Lake right up the river to feed. The property is also proximal to some nice small towns other than Havelock. Lakefield and the Kawarthas to the west, Apsley to the north, and the Trent River, Hastings and Campbellford to the south. Last but not least, the beauty of Stony lake and surrounding areas for sightseeing!
