About this property
Family Home Base in Homer. 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths. Sleeps 9, Dog Friendly.
Cranes’ Rest is a tucked away, tree-lined green setting about 1.5 miles from downtown Homer, surrounded by trees and birdsong. Big south-facing windows fill the house with Alaska light, and the large deck is made for slow mornings and long evenings — coffee, sunshine, and wide-open quiet. You get the best of both worlds: a quiet, green environment, plus quick access to downtown Homer and the Spit
You will often see eagles, cranes, and float planes overhead, and moose frequently travel through the area, especially in spring. Keep your phone ready — there is no shortage of photo moments here.
Cook and gather with ease. The large kitchen is fully equipped so you can prep your Alaskan “catch of the day,” make big breakfasts, or keep it simple and cozy after a day on the Spit. This home is set up to be a practical, comfortable base for everything Homer offers.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
Bedroom 1 (main level): Queen bed with a private en suite bathroom and clothing storage.
Bedroom 2 (main level): Two twin beds and a closet — great for kids or extra guests.
Bedroom 3 (loft with French doors): One full bed plus three twin beds, large closet, and its own television — perfect for families, fishing trips, or group getaways.
There are two bathrooms total. The second bathroom is on the main level and includes the washer and dryer. We provide towels, soap, toilet paper, and basic cleaning supplies, plus laundry detergent.
Outdoor space
Enjoy the sun deck overlooking the yard and gardens — a favorite spot for relaxing between adventures.
Important notes
This is the upper home in a duplex. A long-term tenant lives in the unit below with a separate entrance. You have your own private entrance on the opposite side of the home, plus full access to your kitchen, living, dining, and deck area.
Because this is a shared building, we ask guests to be mindful of heavy footsteps and late-night noise.
Local lodging and sales tax is assessed per night. For compliance, we include a nightly tax amount of $39.25 in the price.

About the host
Hosted by Leah
I am originally from Houston Tx. I moved here in year 2000. Homer was smaller then, having a local population of 5,000 or less. I like knowing that I have been here and a part of it's growth stages and special uniqueness shaping me into who I am today. I have been a vacation home host since 2017. I have always enjoyed accommodating others because by nature, I pay attention to the little things that enhance almost anything. If I don't know about it, I will strive to.
Why they chose this property
I chose East Hill because it is the best blend of nature and convenience in Homer. You are tucked among spruce and birch with birdsong, moose sightings, and wide southern light — yet you are only about one to one-and-a-half miles from town and a quick drive to the Homer Spit. The road up the hill has beautiful views, and the neighborhood stays peaceful even in peak summer.
From the house and deck you may spot eagles, sandhill cranes, and the occasional floatplane overhead. In spring, moose often travel through the area, so keep your camera ready. I love that you can spend the day out exploring, then come home to quiet, sunshine, and a true Alaska “tucked away” feeling without being far from restaurants, shops, and everything that makes Homer special.

What makes this property unique
Cranes’ Rest is a rare mix of “tucked-away in the trees” and close-to-town convenience. You get Alaska quiet and privacy, with Homer’s restaurants, shops, and the Spit only a short drive away.
What guests love most is the sunlight and spaciousness: large, south-facing windows, an open living and kitchen layout, and a big deck that feels like your own little lookout. It’s common to spot eagles, sandhill cranes, and the occasional floatplane overhead—and in spring, moose frequently pass through, so keep your camera ready.
The home is set up for real-life comfort, not just sleeping: a well-equipped kitchen for cooking your catch of the day, plenty of room for groups to spread out, and a flexible sleeping setup including a private loft-style third bedroom that works great for families, friends, or fishing and photo trips.
If you want that classic Homer feeling—peaceful, bright, and nature-rich—without being far from everything, this is it.
