About the host

Host profile image
I am originally from Houston Tx. I moved here in year 2000. Homer was smaller then, having a local population of 5,000 or less. I like knowing that I have been here and a part of it's growth stages and special uniqueness rounding me to who I am today. I have been a vacation home host since 2017. I have always enjoyed accommodating others because by nature, I pay attention to the little things that enhance almost anything. If I don't know about it, I will strive to.

Why they chose this property

I bought this home spring of 2023 and am so delighted that I have the opportunity to own and enjoy this property and all it's offerings. As mentioned in my other other bio, I've been here since year 2000 and have quite the opinion of where the most suitable combination is to live amongst nature and convenience. This is it! The neighborhood is still full of wildlife even though it sets a 1/3 of a mile up the hill and 1 mile from town. Spring has brought a healthy population of Sand Hill Cranes, Calving Moose, overhead flying eagles and a bear who had visited in the dusk of the evening while I was safely tucked away in bed. The home is located off the popular road named, East Hill Rd. Traveling to higher elevation on E. Hill Rd, you will come upon glorious views of Grewingk Glacier, a coastline lined with hundreds of coves, islands and bays situated at the base of the Kachemak Bay Mountain Range across the ever changing tides and colors of Kachemak Bay. Upon reaching the top of E. Hill Rd, you may either continue east or turn west on Skyline Drive. Heading east gives you more views of the bay from atop leading to the end of the road. My mother loves to photograph the long run of mailboxes each year. If you choose to travel Skyline West, please take Diomond Ridge Rd to get your awesome panoramic view of Cook Inlet, it's 3 Volcanoes and where the Gulf of Alaska meets Kachemak Bay and Cook Inlet. Expanding from left to right, you will gaze upon Mt Augustine, then Illiamna and lastly, the great Mt. Redoubt to your far right. When if you're here in the mid summer to early fall, you will also find wild edible snacks and friendly wildflowers along your drive. Easy to identify would be raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, watermelon berries and wild flowers. I have a frequent tendency to stop and smell the roses.

What makes this property unique

This property is wonderful and suits all aspects to help facilitate your stay. It is situated a 1/3 of a mile up East Hill Rd. One of the most popular roads taken for mountain and bay site seeing views. All recreational activities found within Homer are within a 20 mile radius. While here at Sunshine House, enjoy privacy in the trees and wildlife in the neighborhood even though you are very close to town. There are plenty of birdsongs, occasional moose strolling around, Sandhill Cranes and an occasional Black Bear. The half acre lot is open to the sky with a grassy front yard, a small flower garden or two and beautiful tall Spruce and Birch trees. The south facing deck is large enough for a gathering of all guests to mingle, sip on your favorite beverage and talk about your adventures. All rooms are large with cozy beds. The home is kept very clean, tidy and organized and it's decor is eclectic and sensible.
