The panoramic view of Kachemak Bay from Turkington Estate's private 28 acres is one of the most breathtaking views you can experience while visiting Homer. Grewingk Glacier, Poots Peak, Gull Island, the Homer Spit and more; they're all visible!
Guests might enjoy going for a stroll around the property exploring the various flora that grows wild, picking a snack of wild raspberries from the raspberry patch in the late summer and fall, sit out on the deck and watch the sun set in the late summer evenings or read the diary entries and view photos from the Turkington family's adventures to Alaska in Model A's from Connecticut 70 years ago.
The Turkington's are 4th Generation Alaskans/Homerites and we love the last frontier. We're thrilled you stopped by our website to learn more about the Estate. We hope you'll choose to spend part of your Alaskans adventure with us!

Beautiful
Beautiful place with gorgeous view. A very relaxing, comfortable setting and a wonderful place to call "home" while on vacation!!
Incredible views! Lots of space and easy access to Homer for our family. Needed to do some remote work and wifi was not very strong. Other than that we enjoyed our stay.
Enjoyed our stay. Close to Homer Spit which we totally enjoyed. And the guys were successful halibut fishing. Mama moose and the 2 babies on property with the bald eagles flying above were a big plus! The hostess was very nice and informative. Thank you for giving us such wonderful memories 😊

The property was exactly as advertised and much more when we actually arrived. Joyce and Alan were so welcoming and friendly and were there to answer any questions we had. The house is immaculate and very comfortable with magnificent views over the water. It was very quiet and just a short drive from Homer center. We would love to return and would recommend the property anyone wanting a wonderful, relaxing experience.
This beautiful home was perfect for our family. It is spacious and comfortable and is equipped with everything you need. It is a convenient location for visiting Homer and the view from the large living room windows and front deck is incredible!
The property was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Wifi works great. It was really nice to have two bathrooms and the large laundry room came in so handy. I was sad to leave and wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else when in the area.

Cannot be better than this stay
We have travelled many places, this is the best place we have ever stayed. It is even much better than 5-, 6-star hotels. The house is located on the own owned hill, facing beautiful snow mountains and ocean whenever having dinner, sitting in the calm and styled living room, on balcony and outside the house. Especially, the owner, Joyce and Alan are extremely nice, helpful and friendly, making us like at warm home. Staying here for 2 days will be a forever beautiful memory to us: the smiles and assistance of Joyce and Alan, the fantastic view and extremely comfortable house. Thanks Joyce and Alan, you are in our heart! Best wishes

very comfortable home with all the amenities. Hostess was lovely and very accommodating. Beautiful deck with colorful flowers that were tended to daily. Not too far from town and shopping, while providing a feeling of solitude. We were visited by cranes and beautiful views.

My folks were visiting and I wanted to show them Homer. The Turkington Estate did not disappoint, with a view that would be hard to match right from the living room. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Not only does this property have stunning views, it was immaculately clean, well appointed and exactly as advertised. The communication with Joyce the owner was very good as she kept us informed of a potential check in issue(which did not happen) due to a very large party checking out before us, but when we encountered her on the property she was very informative on local activities and just very friendly in general.
We were able to see a young bull moose, right in the back yard of the house which made my wife's day! I cannot recommend this property highly enough. Thanks for sharing this home with us.

Majestic views of Alaska glaciers from every room.
My husband and I took a trip to Alaska for our 40th anniversary. Carolyn's Suite at the Turkington property was a highlight of our trip. The views from every room were stunningly beautiful. The house was spacious, comfortable, well appointed and lovingly care for. There were Sandhill Cranes spending the day eating and resting in the meadow. The location was private yet close to Homer. Truly a home away from home.

Absolutely loved it!
It is a beautiful home and property, complete with a breathtaking view of the bay and glacier. We were treated to a flock of 40-50 Sandhills Cranes most days and some raspberry picking. This comfortable and well-stocked home is in a great location and Joyce and Alan Tarkington are perfect hosts. Thank you for a lovely stay - we hope to be back one day. Lovely house with an incredible view
We stayed at the house 2 nights. It was comfortable and super clean. The hosts anticipated questions with helpful notes around the house and included a very interesting history of the house and the Turkingtons. Downtown Homer was only a few minutes drive but I could have stayed two days in the living room looking out at the incredible views of the ocean and mountains.

We loved it!
For our summer family vacation, we wanted to explore the Homer area. We don't really like hotels, so we thought the Turkington estate would suit our needs. Not only did it suit our needs, it was like a dream come true. The house was spotlessly clean and the view of Kachemak Bay and the Homer Spit was spectacular! The place was so spacious and cozy. The owners were very helpful, recommending places to eat and visit, which turned out to be wonderful. The location was a little out of town, which made it a quiet retreat after a busy day of exploring. We would highly recommend Carolyn's suite to anyone looking for a clean, quiet getaway with a view to die for!

Million Dollar View
The house was very clean and roomy! The living area is so spacious with a post card view. There was more than enough space for us (two couples). The house had everything we needed and more. If we were in the Homer area we would definitely rent this house again. We went Halibut and Salmon fishing and easily caught our limits. Homer is probably my favorite area in Alaska. We highly recommend the Turkington Estate.

About the host
Hosted by Joyce Turkington
Hi, we're the Turkington family. We're 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Alaskans. Our father/grandfather Robert Turkington first came to Alaska in 1946 in Model A's all the way from Hartford Connecticut. The military was still punching in a road through Canada so that they could get vital supplies to Alaska to defend her from the Japanese who had invaded the Aleutian Islands. With his military permit granted to him to travel the road, he struggled through muddy mucky roads all the way to Alaska. He eventually made his way down the Kenai Peninsula to Homer and fell in love. He soon returned to Connecticut, married our mother/grandmother Carolyn and moved her back to Homer. Back then there wasn't much here and you had to be a real pioneer to make a living. He eventually purchased 300 acres in homer just out east end road where the Turkington Estate resides today. This is where we all grew up and spent most of our lives and continue to live and play to this day.
Bob and Carolyn's children and grandchildren now care for 28 acres of some of the last land owned by Bob and Carolyn. They are as follows:
Bob and Carolyn's eldest son and his wife Alan and Joyce Turkington
Their eldest daughter and her husband Joy and Jason Huffman and their 4 children Braden, Riley, Kyern and Tegan.
Their Eldest Son Scott and his wife Hester Turkington and their Daughter Juneau
Their youngest daughter Treva Huff
And their youngest son Matthew Turkington
We're excited to share our one of a kind Alaskan experience and to help others have their own Alaskan adventure! If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact us! We look forward to you staying with us!
Why they chose this property
Turkington Estate is part of the last remaining acres of Bob and Carolyn Turkington's original 360 Acre Dairy Farm they bought. Bob first came to Alaska in 1946. He drove from Hartford Connecticut in Model A's and eventually found his way down to Homer. He fell in love and knew this is where he wanted to live. He soon returned to Connecticut, married Carolyn and brought her back to Homer in 1948. The Estate is now in the care of Bob and Carolyn's eldest son Alan, wife Joyce, their 4 children and 5 grandchildren.
Turkington Estate's B&B was Bob and Carolyn's home which the family has converted into a Rental for guests to experience this unique property. The home has been separated into an upstairs and downstairs unit. This listing is for the upstairs unit of the home, which gives you over 1500 sq ft of living space. It has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living room, full kitchen, dinning area, laundry room, front balcony, and a spacious back deck!
The way the sun plays off of the snow covered mountain peaks, glaciers and clouds across the bay, you'll have a front row seat to some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets Alaska has to offer. Grewink Glacier, Poots Peak, Gull Island, the Homer Spit and more, they're all visible from the Estate. Through the summer months it's not uncommon to see a mamma moose and her young stroll through the property, an eagle soar overhead in search of a meal or have a flock of Sandhill Crane land in the field and forage for food with their young.
Guests might enjoy going for a stroll around the property exploring the various flora that grows wild, picking a snack of wild raspberries from the raspberry patch in the late summer and fall, sit out on the deck and watch the sun set in the late summer evenings or read Carolyn's diary entries and view photos from the Turkington family's adventures to Alaska in Model A's from Connecticut 70 years ago.
The Turkington's are 4th Generation Alaskans/Homerites and we love the last frontie
What makes this property unique
The panoramic view of Kachemak Bay from Turkington Estate's private 28 acres is one of the most breathtaking views you can experience while visiting Homer. Grewingk Glacier, Poots Peak, Gull Island, the Homer Spit and more; they're all visible!
