Don't Trust This Owner to Follow Through or Have House Ready
Don't trust this owner to have the house ready.
We booked well in advance. Owner never sent arrival information and said he wasn't notified. I contacted him via web site Sunday before Wednesday arrival. No response. I called and texted Monday morning. He responded that information would be sent that afternoon. Owner didn't follow through. I texted again Monday night. Tuesday morning I called VRBO. Tuesday am, owner texted me, said he was "working on this", but claimed VRBO shouldn't have taken the listing. Noon Tuesday owner texted me and said he "may drop everything to head to SC first thing tomorrow." and sends me a bunch of screen prints to blame VRBO and hints he might cancel. We indicated that we would be arriving "late afternoon or early evening on Wed". EARLY Wednesday morning, I sent a text indicating arrival 5:30 or 6:00pm. No response until almost 3pm, owner responded to my morning text and canceled the reservation. Somehow I'm at fault because the owner "Didn't hear back from me yesterday"... Owner said he was going to "suck it up and drive 10 hours". He didn't do that. I asked if he canceled on VRBO. He said he would do that. But, or course, he didn't do that either until I called VRBO.
VRBO agreed to foot 2 nights lodging, and pay for 2 nights stay at another location. There are no other available... Thanksgiving.
My take... Owner doesn't know how to manage vacation properties, needs a local caretaker. Lives too far away. He should sell.
