Amazing location. perfect for families withkids and dogs. Backs right up to some amazing hiking trails, easy path to the beach, everything you need for a magical get away.
We loved the location of this cottage. It was perfect for our family, with enough space for everyone. S’mores treats left for us were wonderful. We enjoyed our stay.
This is a great property with fantastic promixity to a great Lake Michigan beach. Each living space was spacious, even for a dozen adults. The only drawbacks we experienced were not have enough toilet paper and paper towels for our stay, the stove not working well, and some of the upstairs rooms that didn't have fans being pretty hot at night. The host helped us out with the stove issue fairly quickly. Overall a great experience and would stay here again!
Cute, quaint place. Spent a lot of time in the upper deck. Firepit a bit tiny to fit more than 4 or 5. But too hot out for a fire anyway. Close to the beach and town. Neighbors were very cool. We had a great time!
This cottage was perfect for our family … roomy enough but also cozy. So easy to walk to the beach, the pier and downtown (& Musical Fountain). They provided all the things we might need, including beach chairs and blankets. We would stay again !
We rented this house and arrived after driving for 9 hours to find it had been condemned. We were in contact with the owner on our way there who didn’t bother to tell us it had been condemned the week before. We called him when we got there and he didn’t answer the call forcing us to contact VRBO to get a refund. He left our family of 8 scrambling to find another place to stay for our 8 day vacation costing us an additional 500 out of pocket not to mention the hassle and stress. I do not recommend anyone book this property. The owner should be ashamed of himself.

Yes, I feel so terrible about this family's arrival experience. This was so unfortunate! The City of Grand Haven decided to post "Condemnation Notices" on any vacation rental property that was overdue for another "Rental Property Inspection". When I called to complain that the tactic was too dramatic, they said "Condemnation is the power the City uses to enforce Building Codes". Yes, the notice was dramatic, but the underlying cause was really nothing. The City assures me their inspections will be complete this Winter. I blocked the cottage for the balance of Winter and Spring to make absolutely sure all their inspections are caught up in time for Summer. I can only imagine how badly this family felt, and I was crushed when it happened. This should never have been an issue.

It was a great location in a charming old cottage! Loved having cousins next door too.
It was a charming cottage. We were thankful for the air conditioning on the second floor and the washer @ dryer!! We were in a great location very near our other family members. It was so nice having the picnic tables outside and a grill. Kids loved having s’mores at the fire pit. We all had a great time.
This cabin is OLD. But in the best way. It has original detail, with some modern amenities. While I personally thought it was charming, I could see how others might not. Aesthetically, the owner has excellent taste and everything worked together. But there were areas that could use some maintenance/updates. We personally struggled with the door handles and locks, as they were all original and clearly very old. The location was quaint and peaceful, and an easy walk to the beach (for my able bodied family).
Lovely cottage, great neighborhood - lacking upkeep
Lovely cottage, owners were easy and kind to work with. Access to the cottage required walking past barking dogs that charge a low fence - worth noting for anyone who may need to know this prior to arrival. While the cottage is *quaint*, it is in need of significant maintenance - namely the bathrooms. The upstairs toilet flooded multiple times even with very careful, thoughtful use (minimal thin paper, etc). We had to lay towels down just as a precaution. There was no hot water in downstairs bath without rummaging for a valve to initiate the hot water faucet. We also had to deal with some pesky gnats upon arrival and the full duration of the stay. They greeted us upon arrival in the kitchen and never left. I can’t stress enough how lovely the owner was to work. Hopefully some updates happen soon - we would absolutely book again after that takes place!

Family Vacation
This is a great cottage for large families with ample room to spread out. However, as soon as we walked in the door (after struggling to enter because the door was locked with no key instructions) there was an overwhelming mold smell. There are also 3 out of 5 bedrooms with no blinds or curtains which was a little uncomfortable for changing as you lock eyes with people on the deck next door. There is a large fenced area on both sides of the house which was nice but in desperate need of some weeding and cleaning. I’m pretty sure there was poison ivy growing around the house. Nice fire pit area and new grill. The kitchen had lots of serving pieces and drinkware, but no potholders, dishrags or dish towels so no way to bake or keep things clean without purchasing your own supplies. The cottage had some plumbing issues and the host was very responsive and got someone out right away to take care of it. Overall this cottage was a nice size for large family gatherings but is in desperate need of some TLC
The good: very lovely view into the hollow behind the cottage. Five-minute walk to the City Beach. Trails through the woods right behind the cottage. Five bedrooms. Decent beds, lots of beach toys and kitchen supplies. Dog-friendly cottage and neighborhood. Air conditioning. Nice fire pit. Washer and dryer and laundry soap provided. Dishwasher. Materials for s’mores kindly provided by owner. Lots of DVD’s.
The bad: Pricey rental. Only two parking spaces though the cottage sleeps 13. Slow toilet upstairs. Dark living room at night—one feeble ceiling light and one low-watt floor lamp for a very large room. No good outdoor eating area—just grungy picnic tables in the undergrowth in the yard. Upstairs deck is full of sticks and leaves, railing looks rotten in places and has large gaps (I wouldn’t let kids up there) Shaky deck furniture. A lot of chipped/peeling paint.
The ugly: can’t close the front door very well, only the screen. Doorknob falls off. A ceiling light fixture fell out of the ceiling while we were there and was hanging by the wiring; we contacted the owner, send a photo, and he said he’d better get someone out to fix it—but no one ever showed up.
You might be on your own if there are problems at the place, which is a concern when you’re paying around $4700 a week.
We had a nice stay. The house was adequate for our needs and was wonderfully close (3 minutes) to beach. We liked the nature trail near the house and also was pleased with everything the house provided. We are concerned with potential mold around kitchen faucet and wooden counter tops. Front door lock needs to be replaced. We couldn’t lock door from outside house, only from inside, lock and key are old and key could have broken in lock so we just left house unlocked, which is how we found it upon arrival. It would be helpful to have written instructions about house rules provided upon arrival and a good phone number for property management. We noticed ants in kitchen, not bad but present. Blinds are needed upstairs for privacy. Amenities provided were great, as was dvds, games, beach stuff, Netflix, firewood and fire pit and s’mores!! If you address the concerns, you will bring in more business 😀
Oven did not work
Upstairs bathroom sink very slow to drain. That is a real problem when 7 of our guest stayed upstairs. Master bed old and lumpy. Window sills filthy , like never cleaned. Found some happy spiders living upstairs. These things made for a very uncomfortable stay. If you choose this home I would be sure to address these concerns with the owner. I did on the first day and he said he would get his maintenance guy out. That NEVER happen.
We had a great week at Cory’s property and were all very happy with our stay! A quick walk to the beach every day and this home is stocked with everything you could want for the perfect beach day. We stayed here with a total of 9 people in the house (4 kids) and loved that we had all the space we needed and more! My only wish is that we had more parking so our other family could come over and visit during our stay and enjoy a fire outside with us. This place was a total gem.
House gets plenty of shade to stay cool. The yard and house could have been cleaner but it wasn’t bad enough to make us not enjoy ourselves. Overall a nice older house in a nice neighborhood.
We’ve been coming to Grand Haven for 60 years and it is one of our favorite spots in the world. The location is great. Walk to the beach or walk the Mulligan Hollow trail to town! We loved everything about the town. Great shops and restaurants, and lots of ice cream stores! The house is charming. Comfortable and clean. Beds were very comfortable. Perfect sleeping weather. The central air did not work real well but we really did not really need it because the weather was ideal!
Plenty of sleeping arrangements for all of us! Nice areas to hang out! Was cool and rainy so did not use any of the outdoor spaces but they looked inviting.

I am a father of 2 boys (ages 14 and 146 who are my life! We love being at the cottage and doing all there is to do in this very special spot!
Why they chose this property
My mother's family is from Grand Haven, and I have been summering here my whole life. I wanted to be out at the beach, but also wanted to be near enough to the pier to walk everywhere. Our home sits right on the edge of Mulligan's Hollow for hiking, trail-riding, dog-walking and wildlife adventuring! We are so close to the beach that you can come up and down all day for supplies, naps, snacks, tantrums without giving up your whole day at the beach.
What makes this property unique
My hammock is my favorite afternoon spot when the boys go down for their nap after a day at the beach. Walking the beach early morning and at sunset is heavenly. The Musical Fountain is as charming and gratifying as it is hokey. Who cares if it is silly? You're eating Dairy Treat on a hillside over the river with a 1000 others who have completely forgotten last week's rat-race and are embracing a wonderful summer ritual in Grand Haven. This is not to be missed!
