About this property

Rustic Escape Flathead Cabin

This 325 Sqft cabin is 100% off grid and located in the Colorado mountains. There are no city utilities in this cabin. The cabin is run entirely off solar power and a propane heater / wood stove for heating. You won't find a TV at this place! If you are looking for a quite, cozy getaway out in nature and away from the city life, this is the place for you! This cabin is sure to capture your outdoorsy nature and even possibly challenge your desire to live off-grid.

This secluded cabin in the Pike National forest is one of the most relaxing and peaceful cabins out there. It is highly likely you will see wildlife from the decking of the home, especially in the morning hours. There is 1.3 miles of dirt road to get to the cabin.

The entire home is reserved in your booking, and no one else will be on the multi-acre mountain property.

Sleeping Arrangements
- 1 Queen pullout couch (living room)
- 1 Queen bed (located in loft - very low ceiling height)

The cabin also features:
- Kitchenette with oven, stove, sink and an Ice cooler for food
- Cooking utensils, and dinnerware for 4 guests
- Books and board games
- Bathroom with standing shower and a composting toilet

Patio Features:
- Outside seating
- Firepit with grill attachment
- Stunning views

Residential Quiet Hours:
Quiet hours are from 9PM to 7AM. Quiet hours are defined as the neighbors not being able to hear you.

House Rules:
- No smoking or vaping in the home.
- No parties or loud music that the neighbors could hear.

Parking:
- Please park your vehicle at the bottom of the driveway on the dirt road. If your vehicle permits, you can also utilize the dirt driveway located in the front of the cabin. Please use caution when backing down the dirt driveway. Remember to lock up vehicles and take all food with you to the cabin in order to deter wildlife.

Our Pet Policy:
Hi, we are a pet friendly property and support our guests traveling and staying with their pets. We have dogs of our own, and completely understand the joy of traveling with your pets. In order to ensure we can maintain a 5-star stay for all guests, if you are booking, we do require the following from our guests who book with pets:
- You agree to pick up pet excrement from the property and place in the garbage
- You agree to cover the cost of all damages caused by the pets, including but not limited to scratches in home or furniture, odors, stains, chewed up home goods, etc.
- You agree to taking 100% legal responsibility for your pet's actions while on the property, such as an animal bite/attack or damage to other properties.
- You will not permit pets to be on the furniture
- Your pet is house trained and bark controlled
- You agree that your pets will not be left unattended for longer than 2 hours
- You agree that your pet will remain leashed while in the common area
- You have a maximum of two pets
- You agree to paying a one time, flat $75 pet fee for your booking

(Rare - If needed) Turning on the power to the home:
- Since we are 100% off grid, occasionally when you arrive, the power system may be in "Power Savings Mode". If you try to turn lights on and they do not work, that's how you know you need to do the following steps that will take 1-3 minutes:
1. Enter the blue door to the right of the deck stairs
2. To the right of the 14 battery cells, there is a blue control panel that says "Sun Gold Power". In the top left corner, click the switch to "Unit Off". Wait 5 seconds and the system will shut down.
3. Click the switch to "Power Saver Off". You will hear some noises and lights blinking on the system. Test by turning lights on and seeing if the home has power.
4. If this does not work, go to the blue generator under the deck.
5. Navigate to the red switch with the yellow boarder around it. Press in the right side of the switch with the straight line on it.
6. Press and hold in the button that says "ON/OFF" and the generator will start in a couple seconds. You now have power and the generator will charge the cells.
7. After 4 hours, turn the generator off by clicking the red switch back to O icon side to turn off the generator.

Here are a couple of important things for you to know about prior to booking your stay:
1. We are 100% off grid, meaning we are not connected to city utilities. You are in the Pike National Forest. Occasionally, the solar power system in the home needs to be manually turned on due to it entering a "power savings mode". It is about a 1 to 3 minute manual process to turn the solar cells back on. Instructions are provided in our check-in message, and also provided in person in laminated sheets.
2. The cabin runs off a water cistern, so we ask you to conserve water when possible.
3. There are 3 options for sources of heat for the cabin: Propane heater, wood burning fireplace, propane stove.
4. While we have plenty of firewood on the property, we cannot guarantee dry wood. For that reason, please remember to bring your own firewall and/or fire starter if required.
5. Do not feed the wildlife, please. It causes issues with the neighbors in the long-term. Thank you!
6. Due to power consumption requirements, we do not have a refrigerator/freezer. Instead, we have high quality coolers that will keep ice frozen for over a week. Bring your own ice as needed.

(Depending on usage) How to empty urine trap if it starts to fill up:
Step 1: Put on gloves located under sink
Step 2: Unclip both buckles located on the sides of the toilet.
Step 3: lift toilet head slightly.
Step 4: remove urine bucket located in the front of the toilet by the handle.
Step 5: dispose of liquid content outside 100 feet away from cabin.
Step 6: Put it back in bucket holder and close and secure lid

About the home:
- Please be sure to read the composting toilet instructions that are posted in the bathroom and watch this video if you need more help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1KZvfbQ2oY
- Power Source: Please be aware that the property is run entirely on Solar power so please conserve as much power as possible by turning off the lights during the day.
- The home has a cistern for water, please use it sparingly since it is limited
- Bring Ice, drinking water and firewood, the cabin has a 5 day ice hold cooler to store all food. Dry ice works well for longer stays.
- Fires are only allowed in the designated fire pit area
- Please do not leave food outside to avoid attracting unwanted wildlife. Please extinguish all fires that are unsupervised.
- Watch this video to learn how to use the wood burning stove: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoCxtLKxJXU

Quiet
This place was absolutely perfect for getting away from everything. Tucked back in your own little part of the forest, I would absolutely come back!

Online listing was misleading and dishonest.
I asked the manager about the trip from the house to Charis Bible College and was told it was a very easy 10 min drive. Then in the last 24 hours it was revealed in the check in that it was 1.3 miles down a dirt road to get to the place. I told the owner this was unacceptable and she have been in the description of the property. I asked for a refund but was only given a partial. Between the host and vrbo they took $700. Now it does say that in the description. This whole stay was a disaster and I should have been reimbursed my stay in total.
