First and second floors of an 1890 townhouse, blending old and new, designed by architect owner. Warm and welcoming with a living room, tv room, large dining room that seats 12, gourmet granite kitchen with La Cornue gas/electric range/Miehle microwave/convection, 48 in. Sub Zero. 2nd floor common area with comfortable reading chairs, game table, mini-fridge and sink. Pleasant and cool on the hottest days with cross-ventilation and ceiling fans in every room. Back yard seating area with lovely garden, seating and table/chairs/grill. Small garage to store bikes, beach equipment.

Delightful townhouse in the Borough

The Grey House was a perfect place for my husband, our two teens and a friend to spend a week together. We are former Borough residents and it was a comfortable, aesthetically lovely and roomy home-base for us.

Lovely weekend getaway!

The large galley style kitchen and huge dining table in this lovely home was truly the "hub" of our "Friends-giving" Weekend in the Borough! Perfect for our party of 8 adults. The owner was extremely accommodating and a pleasure to work with. All emails were returned in a timely manner. Perfection!

The Grey House was perfection! From the moment we arrived (to the kind note and welcome wine!) we appreciated every detail – it was wonderfully clean, beautifully appointed and much roomier that we had even expected. Located right in the Borough, we were able to walk to beach, to coffee shop, to restaurants and even to boat dock to buy seafood. We had a simply fabulous stay and look forward to the opportunity to come back some time.

An amazing stay at the Grey House!

We once again loved the Grey House. Its sophisticated yet cozy atmosphere was perfect for our weeklong getaway. There was plenty of room for my family of four to spread out yet come together for games in the living room and meals at the impressive dining room table. The kitchen is beautiful and user-friendly - it had everything we needed, including scotch tape in a pinch! My husband and I especially loved the backyard space to read in the morning and late afternoon. The location in the Borough is perfect and we all remarked how clean the house was. We'll definitely be back!

Great girls weekend!

We rented this house in early October for a girls weekend to celebrate my sisters 30th birthday. We had an amazing weekend. The house is beautifully decorated and in a great location with close proximity to restaurants and shops. We also spent some time up at Jonathan Edwards Winery which is about a 15 minute ride north. The house has everything you might need and the kitchen was fantastic...a pleasant surprise since we love to cook! Lauren was a great person to rent from- very accommodating and helpful. We're thinking of making this an annual trip...only next time stay longer!

Beautiful historic seaboard town, lovely location. House is smaller than expected, two stories with 3 smaller BR and “technically” accommodates 8. Downstairs living areas also felt quite small. one TV. Appliances high end. *Follow the house rules. Stonington is a quiet and lovely part of the New England past!

We were surprised to read to that you felt our home was smaller than anticipated. In seven years of renting, we have never heard this. In fact, the adjectives we see most often are “spacious” and “accommodating’,” particularly since we’re located in the historic Borough where most of the homes were built over 150 years ago and our home is probably the largest home available. While we cannot control expectations, we can confirm that our listing is accurate and specific, and that we do have four distinct, good size bedrooms, an oversized kitchen, generous dining, living, a separate 2nd fl common area, and a separate TV room.

What a lovely home in a historic district that's a feast for the eyes. Quaint shops, wonderful restaurants, gorgeous beaches and architectural gems all around. This beautiful home is a gem itself, lovingly restored, impeccably clean and well appointed. It was the perfect place for "girls' weekend". We loved sitting on the pretty garden patio in the afternoon with a cup of tea or glass of wine, thoroughly enjoyed the spacious dining room for meals, and appreciated the bright living room for relaxing and chatting. The kitchen is totally up to date but perfectly in sync with the period in which the house was built. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Altogether it was one of the most delightful and memorable "girls' weekends" we've had. And this was our 44th! So glad we found this captivating house in Stonington!

A Gem in Stonington

The Gray House is a fabulous find in Stonington. The home is exactly as pictured, located perfectly in town and outfitted with all the essentials, including sharp knives for food prep! The perfect getaway...especially during Covid pandemic!

Our group of four could not have ask for more. This house was perfectly clean, sanitized and in good working order in general! It is within walking distance to everything in the beautiful Stonington Burough . The house is one street back from Water Street which has all of the shops and restaurants. We liked that it was not on the "main drag" as it was very quiet at night. The rooms and decor were charming and the kitchen was excellent to cook in. The owner was fantastic to work with and very attentive. I would book this house again in a heartbeat. Thank you Lauren and Mike!

Fabulous and cozy in the heart of Stonington

My partner and I stayed for a long weekend (4 days) with another couple. The check in process was seamless, and as soon as we walked in we felt at home. Well organized, beautiful, homey. Gorgeous kitchen opens to a small back yard with grill and seating. Bedrooms were comfortable, and we especially appreciated the cozy second floor seating area which functioned as an office during the day and space for reading and games In the evening. We enjoyed the art throughout the house. Street parking was easy, even though it was a beautiful weekend. Local restaurants were serving - with covid precautions - and we had several delightful meals overlooking the bay within walking distance. There is a large dining room right off the kitchen, and it feels like it would be a fun house for family gatherings or to cook a seafood feast. Stonington is great town to explore, perfect for walkers. Also explored Mystic (a quick 10 minute drive) and Westerly beaches. Although there were only four of us, we could have brought another couple or two or family because two bedrooms were unused during our stay. If you do come with a larger group be aware but there is only one bathroom on the second floor, which is where the bedrooms are located, so that might be an issue for some. Also, there is only one air conditioner, and it is located in the sitting area on the second floor. There are lots of ceiling fans throughout the house, but the lack of air-conditioning in bedrooms could be an issue for some, especially on hot, humid evenings.

Why they chose this property

We have been visiting Stonington for over 30 years since Stonington was more of a working-class, Portuguese immigrant community. What hasn't changed is the beauty of its setting and how committed its residents are to its preservation.

What makes this property unique

We love how Grey House functions whether we are visiting as a family or whether we are entertaining friends. Whomever wakes first can dash out to Indulge for bagels or egg sandwiches and pick up the paper and a quart of milk at Tom's. Even the young kids can bike or walk around town or to the playground or beach. Daily constitutionals around the Borough are one of our favorite rituals.
