About this property
Charming Colchester Home w/ Malletts Bay Beachfront, WiFi, Gourmet Kitchen, A/C
Enjoy boating, fishing, sandy beach, water sports, and breathtaking views of the sunset from the back porches, beach and a grassy terrace area of a newly built lakefront house located centrally along the eastern shore of Malletts Bay. You will experience the modern comforts and amenities of home while being only a few feet from the beach and your exclusive water access.
Please note that we are a seasonal property, open from June 1 through October 31, but this timing includes great access to fall foliage via interstate 89, from mid-September through mid-October.
Step from the luxury of the cherry wood cabinets and granite countertops of the gourmet kitchen along hardwood floors into a cozy sitting area with a two-sided fireplace as focal point, and then out onto the generous, fully screened and enclosed porch for dinner with a view. The floor plan of this house was ingeniously designed to make you feel as if you are always connected to the waters of the beautiful bay and Lake Champlain. The first floor has a full bath and bedroom; and the porch converts to a sleeping room on the sectional sofa. Two large bedrooms on the second level share a bathroom suite and walkout access to another enclosed porch that has a love seat convertible for additional sleeping space. A spiral staircase leads up to a unique cupola with lookout windows that allow even better views of the bay.
Boat moorings allow ready access to fishing and water sports on the bay or the broad lake. This well-situated property provides convenient access to shopping, great dining, and sightseeing in Burlington just to the south. Hop on the interstate for an easy drive of only 90 minutes to cosmopolitan Montreal or less than an hour to the rustic wonders of Vermont’s central mountains and summer/ski resorts.
This is a seasonal property open from May 1 to October 31.

About the host
Hosted by Richard MacDonald

Much like Ben & Jerry, the owners all moved to Burlington in the late 1970's. The four owners (two couples, Rich and Jacque, Rick and Madeleine) came to Burlington to attend the University of Vermont for undergrad and graduate work. We then met our future spouses there, all while enjoying the great Burlington/UVM student experience, and living on a shoestring. Distant cousins Rich and Madeleine connected there and our foursome were our only local family. Although the years and different jobs have taken us geographically far away, Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains have always felt like home to us all. We welcome you and hope that you enjoy our house. Our friend Laurie who lives nearby and manages the property for us will take good care of you.
Why they chose this property
Waterfront properties on Malletts Bay do not become available very often, so when the chance arose to reconnect on the Pastime property, we were all in accord to go for it. 'Renovations' became a 'rebuild,' to 'new build' through record-breaking flooding and even a hurricane! But it has all been worthwhile when we sit out sipping wine at sunset enjoying the lake and the mountains while connecting with friends and family! Priceless!
What makes this property unique
The original Pastime cottage was located in a wonderful central setting with panoramic views along the eastern shore of the bay, but it was in disrepair, leading to renovation and, eventually, to the necessity of total reconstruction to modern standards. The owners have put much energy and thought into the design and setup of the house, and we all have fallen in love with its charming rooms and pleasant spaces, especially the lovely gourmet kitchen and the enclosed porches that give the feeling of practically being on the beach. We already have many wonderful shared memories of our experiences at Pastime, including a very special wedding on the beach in the summer of 2012. The sunsets on the lake are spectacular and worth the trip at any time of year.
