Lovely Home & Cottage with Pool, Bocce and Game Room Near Sonoma Square

Welcome to The Fir & The Fig!

We are set on a private road 2 miles east of the Sonoma plaza and walking distance or a short bike ride to some of California's oldest and best wineries. Our location is in the heart of the wine country and only 40 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge. We're on Sonoma's coveted east side so Napa is easily accessible in 15 minutes drive. You can start your day with a drive to Napa or just enjoy the laid back historic wineries all around you in Sonoma. We are uniquely positioned with wineries all around on old country roads so minimal traffic. This offers a unique opportunity to tour the area by foot or on bikes. There is a great article on our direct website along with a map with more details. Our favorite mode of transportation is cruising the bikes to a couple wineries en rout to the famous Sonoma plaza which offers an abundance of tasting rooms, 5 star restaurants and great markets. The plaza also hosts many great festivals throughout the summer and fall so you never know what you might roll up on.

Now that you know what's around us let's talk about the great property you would be enjoying when you're not out and about. We just finished major renovation so everything including the beds are brand new. We have a large hot tub just off the back deck that overlooks our brand new in-ground swimming pool. The pool features an auto-cover and solar heat which keeps it very comfortable for at least 6-7 months of the year. We can monitor the heat remotely, and if needed, we can use our gas heater to get it to your desired temperature in the off-season. There will be an additional charge if gas heat is desired. We have just completed our new bocce court and installed new landscaping for 2016.

The Fig and the Fern is a spectacular property. Our multigenerational family gathering was made so much more special by enjoying the spacious indoor and outdoor amenities- all of which were in pristine condition. The children loved seeing the deer every morning and swimming in the pool. The adults enjoyed the outdoor games, the happy children and the proximity to hiking trails and wineries. Perfect location, perfect property, perfect vacation.

Great property, great pool!

Wonderful place very close to downtown Sonoma yet very private and peaceful. Having multiple structures with bedrooms and bathrooms was perfect for our extended family. The pool was a wonderful respite in the heat and the entire backyard was very well suited for enjoying the outdoors.

Our stay was amazing. It was the perfect size for 10 people. No one stayed in the little pool house with the Murphy bed but it was nice to have that extra bathroom. Everything was clean, the owners communicated very well and were very nice! We will 100000% stay here again.

Comfortable Venue

We were pleased with the cleanliness of the property. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was well supplied. We especially enjoyed our time around the pool even though we never rolled back the cover. The cabana was smaller than anticipated but manageable. We had to contact the owners once, and they were quick to respond. We enjoyed our stay. We would recommend this property.

Kumquats and Lemons and great Kitchen

I stayed at this property with my extended family; we were a group of 9 adults. The weather varied during our late April week but when the sun was out, no matter the temperature, it was delightful to sit outside on the varied decks or by the pool. The figs were not ripe at that time of year but my husband did make fresh kumquat/lemon juice every morning! The best part of the main house was the large dining table and its proximity to the kitchen island. Everyone pitched in (which I love) to cook two big dinners and a big breakfast! What a beautiful area and place!

5-Star Review for this Sonoma Stay!

We couldn’t have picked a better spot for our family getaway in Sonoma! The house was perfect for our group of 11, with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy. We made great use of the game room and kitchen, and the location was fantastic—super convenient with easy check-in and check-out. One of the highlights was how stress-free the stay was, especially compared to other rentals. There weren’t any extensive check-out instructions, so we could simply pack up and go, which was a huge plus for our group. The pool cabana would be perfect for bigger kids or teens, but it was a little small for two adults. However, we made it work and appreciated having that extra space! Overall, this place was a gem, and we’d absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend it for families or larger groups looking for a relaxing and fun stay in Sonoma!

Sonoma 40th Birthday Celebration

We had a group of College girlfriends and spouses get together in Sonoma for several days to celebrate our 40th birthdays. The house was perfect for what we needed. We got lucky and had amazing weather, so we truly enjoyed the outdoor spaces in the late afternoons after wine tastings. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked and we made several meals while we were there. We really enjoyed the game room for evening hanging out as well. It was too cold for the pool, but the hot tub was great. The beds were super comfy, and the location to downtown Sonoma was prime. Chris was very communicative and had great tips for local hikes and places to walk near the house. We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend the house for big groups. Tons of space and just a lovely property.

Sonoma Nine

We loved the house, especially the warm pool, hot tub, the game room, very well stocked kitchen with spices and condiments. Being coffee lovers, we appreciated the coffee pot and large mugs!! The grounds around the house were beautiful, with lots of spaces to relax and talk. We have very few negatives to report. There was a room that we expected to have 2 beds but only uas one in the cottage. In spite of the noise requirements, there was a noisy rooster very early in the morning who obviously didn’t know the rules. Overall, we highly recommend this house.

Beautiful property with lots of space for the 10 of us that stayed here. We had 4 couples and 2 single ladies to celebrate a 50th birthday. The pool, hot tub, and game room were great but the highlight was the deer in the morning. We had a minor issue with the drainage in the cottage house bathroom sink, but the management company took care of that right away. The kitchen was well equipped & included everything we needed to cook breakfast for 10 people.

Perfect Place to stay with friends

High school friends of over 50 years, it was our first destination trip with spouses. This property and the wonderful suggestions made by Chris were perfect! We created meals together in the well-appointed kitchen almost every night. Told stories old and new in the comfortable surroundings. Headed out on adventures - Jack London SP, Pt Reyes, Napa, Sonoma Adventures biking, Sonoma Raceway, Armstrong Woods - and of course wineries. The room arrangements allowed couples and singles privacy, and all commented on the comfortable beds. We regret not having time or weather to use all of the available facilities and games at the property - but the ones we did use were awesome.

Wonderful place to stay with friends

This is a great property and was so comfortable for our group of friends. The game room and other amenities were perfect. Also, the location felt very central to everywhere we went. Would definitely like to come back. Two minor recommended improvements: most premium properties we’ve stayed provide more paper products and didn’t expect us to do much of the cleaning on departure day. Both felt stingy given the rental rate of this property.

Very nice home to stay in!

This property is very nice & the owners are very attentive to any needs that come up. We were a group of 3 couples who are close friends & this provided a homey setting for cooking, playing games, watching sports & home base for our wine tasting excursions etc. The kitchen & open living area were very nice & updated well. Our only complaint would be that the 2 bedrooms in the villa were quite small & cramped. I would suggest trading out one or both of the king beds with bunk beds. Otherwise a wonderful place to stay!

Great home for family

We booked the property for a wedding and had our entire extended family stay here. The group loved the pool and outdoor garden and patio areas, and the kids spent a lot of time in the separate game room. It was quite close to the Sonoma downtown area and a beautiful neighborhood to walk around.

Wonderful holiday house

Our family of 11, ages 7to 77, stayed a this property and it met everyone's needs. We cooked all of our meals there and there was plenty of cooking gear for our gourmet cooks. We had rain for all but 3 ours of our three and a half days there and it was never an issue. The children used the fame room, we played board games on the dining room table, charades in hte living room and never turned on the TV. There are terrific walks nearby. We took one before the rain started up again. Chris was very responsive to my calls. We hope to return next year.

Wow! What a gem!

Booked this for my friend’s 40th birthday celebration and WOW did it deliver. Lots of comfortable bedrooms. Well stocked kitchen with dishes/pots/pans. Fun game room and comfortable living room. Hot tub is A+. Close enough to town, but still out in the country so it’s nice and quiet! It was a treat sitting on one of the many decks and listen to the creek in the back of the property while having a cup of coffee. Will definitely be looking for more opportunities to stay here! We had one child with us. And the guest house is close enough to the main house that we could have a baby monitor set up. This place is a great stay for families.

We were drawn to the natural beauty, tranquility and local charm of Sonoma's East Side. After a very long search, we found the property of our dreams and remodeled it to create The Fir & The Fig. We take great pride in managing the property ourselves, staying involved in the community, and doing all we can to provide our guests with a truly memorable Sonoma Wine Country experience.

Why they chose this property

The Fir and The Fig is just a short 1 hr drive from San Francisco, is easily accessible from the greater Bay Area, but it feels a world away. It's the perfect escape to enjoy peace, tranquility, and an authentic small town feel without the long travel time.

What makes this property unique

Location, location, location! We love the secluded feel of our property while being such close proximity to so may great wineries and the Sonoma Square. We especially love the ability ride bikes or walk to nearby attractions without getting into a car.

Please note that this is a property for those who want to relax, regroup and unwind. It is not a suitable location for groups that want to party into the night.
