A rustic contemporary country home and architectural gem, Summers House is warm and welcoming. A massive native stone fireplace anchors the living area. Filled with art, antiques, and books, the house garners rave reviews from guests who enjoy its embrace. As one notable author who who enjoyed the house stated, 'Now I have been spoiled; every other place we stayed in after yours seemed well, soul less. That might be so for all our future vacation homes."
Designed by award winning architect Robert Zinkhan, Summers House is beautifully integrated into the natural landscape. It epitomizes his goal: To create “The house as art”.
DESIGN AND DECOR
Summers House features Mexican terracotta paver tile floors, a beautifully tiled, handcrafted, fully equipped kitchen, and massive native stone fireplace. The striking fireplace was constructed from cobblestones left behind when quarries on the property provided stones to pave the streets of San Francisco during the 19th century. Moss covered boulders sculpt the land. Tumbling historic stonewalls built by Chinese laborers during the 19th century have been re-stacked to enhance the landscape, while maintaining the property's historical integrity. Native American arrowheads found on the property also provide reminders of the past.
Comfortable and practical leather furnishings complement antiques, art, and the home’s natural cedar walls. The house is framed with exposed posts and beams. A large 18th Century European dining table comfortably seats guests. A quarter sawn oak upright piano, a part of the family for more than sixty years, has been restored and tuned.
Three bedrooms, all with lofts, and two bathrooms welcome groups of six or seven. The master bedroom boasts an extremely comfortable king bed, and walk-in shower. Two bedrooms feature queen beds and share a bathroom accessible from both bedrooms. Each bedroom includes a private sink and vanity.
An enormous deck, with an outdoor dining table, spans the south side of the house and captures views of Mt. Tamalpais, the San Francisco Bay, and the tip of the Golden Gate Bridge. Views can be enjoyed from the living and dining areas as well. Sunsets are breathtaking.
LOCATION
Wind up one of the most scenic country roads in Sonoma to reach Summers House, located on a private, gated country property in east side Sonoma. Drive through vineyards, and climb up into the hills where the house is nestled on a wooded hillside where wildlife abounds. Drive slowly as the road is a hiker's paradise and wildlife crossing. Upon arrival the electronic gate will grant you admission. Fenced in the same cedar which clads its buildings, the property offers a private retreat.

IMPORTANT POOL AND SPA INFORMATION
The pool does not usually require heating during warm summer months, from June through August or September. There is no charge for the spa during warmer months. The pool and spa are heated by propane. Each group will be asked to pay a fee per day for heating at $50 for the spa and $100 for the pool during cooler summer days, spring and fall. We can either ad these fees to your VRBO payment or you can pay at the time of your stay. For cooler months, from approximately November through March, a heat up fee of approximately $200 to $700, depending upon the temperature, will be necessary to cover propane costs. (The pool and spa are expensive to heat during cold weather.) The start up fees for May and October are approximately $150 for the pool, plus fees per day. On occasion, the pool may be already heated and the start up fee will not apply. We cannot include the start up fee with the VRBO program as it varies and does not apply from June through September. There are no start up fees for these warmer months. If the temperatures are in the mid 80s or higher the pool may be comfortably swimmable without heating.
Please note that although the pool and spa are private and we protect our guests privacy, there may occasionally be people coming and going and nudity is not preferred. The owner appreciates notice of guests scheduled times off of the property so she can take a swim.
