About this property
Modernism Rediscovered. William Krisel Designed Julius Shluman Published House
Palm Spring City Permit #2821
Light and bright with stunning floor to ceiling windows, this truly iconic mid-century modern home is an amazing example of indoor-outdoor architecture. Located on a very quiet street in Twin Palms neighborhood in central Palm Springs, which is dog friendly and very walkable. Designed by William Krisel and once owned by the famous science fiction author Ray Bradbury. The stunning 1957 design showcase home offers indoor-outdoor living with floor-to-ceiling as well as clerestory windows in almost every room.
The home has been published many times and photographed by Julius Shulman the famous mid-century photographer. Located in the quiet and very walkable neighborhood called Twin Palms, this architectural gem has been featured in Palm Spring’s Modernism Week architectural tours and published in several publications, including Modernism Rediscovered. It has also been published in Popular Mechanics magazine (1958) as "The House of Tomorrow" showcasing Post Modernism design. In addition, NPR recently featured the home in an article on William Krisel, the architect who brought mid-century modern architecture to the masses... helping make Palm Springs what it is today.
The Bradbury home has been lovingly restored to its original charm and Hollywood roots. It has a spacious and open floor plan with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and living room that is perfect for groups of families and friends. The bedrooms are elegantly decorated with comfortable beds and high-quality linens, providing a comfortable and relaxing environment for guests to unwind after a long day at the pool or enjoying nearby downtown Palm Springs (less than 5 minutes). Inside, the living room features a large curved mid-century couch with a 55” flat screen TV, while the dining room has a sleek, spacious dining table with seating for 6-8. The kitchen boasts the original pink and chrome oven and stovetop with a pass-through window to the patio, and a private patio off the kitchen features period designed patio seating for 10.
The home has three light and airy bedrooms, including two primary suites with their own private bathroom. Also large comfortable beds and large sliding glass windows, as well as a third bedroom with beautiful views of the private atrium. All bedroom have floor to ceiling windows and are beautifully appointed with vintage designed furniture and modern amenities, such as wireless Internet, flat screen televisions, and state-of-the-art Lennox A/C. It also now has sustainable "solar" power with Telsa battery to help save energy and the planet!
Enjoy this very "instagramable" mid-century home with its amazing architecture and light and bright rooms. Play in the desert sun while enjoying the very private backyard and sparkling pool. Almost every room features upper clerestory windows showcasing the mountain views and palm tree sky.
Don't miss your chance to stay in this truly original Mid-Century vacation home and experience living in the true modernist style of this Krisel designed Alexander & Company built home.
Small dog weighing less than 20lbs will be considered with approval and pet fee. During cooler months, the pool can be heated for an additional fee.

Why they chose this property
We love the neighborhood which is in the heart of Palm Springs in an area known as Twin Palms. The neighborhood is very walkable and has many other restored mid-century modern homes. And has been featured in architectural tours as part of Palm Springs Modernism Weeks. It's also an easy walk to Kofi coffeeshop or trendy Ace Hotel. We can also walk to the smoke tree shopping area for great restaurants-- the best Vegan Restaurant in town and grocery store. There's also other restaurants nearby that feature authentic Vietnamese food as well as pizza and pasta. Close to everything, yet a very quiet neighborhood.
What makes this property unique
This is a true Mid-Century home with wonderful Mid-Century modern furnishings that are authentic to the original design. Staying here feels like you're transported back in time with elegant and simplistic esthetic. A true feeling of indoor-outdoor living.... and so peaceful and quiet... in all surrounded by a spectacular neighborhood.
