About this property
Water's Edge Cottage -- Luxury Retreat -- 180 Degree Potomac Views
Welcome to the newly renovated Water's Edge Cottage, offering what may be the best views on the Potomac. We are excited to host family, friends, and guests in this serene oasis. The rural charm of St. Mary’s County is one of Maryland’s best kept secrets -- 90 minutes but a world away from Washington DC (with no Bay Bridge traffic).
The cottage is located in the White Point Beach area near historic Leonardtown (which boasts one of Maryland’s few remaining town squares - think “Mayberry”). The cottage’s interior has been completely redesigned to maximize its space and take full advantage of its stunning views. It has two bedrooms and two baths with vaulted ceilings throughout. The primary bedroom contains a king bed with flatscreen TV and a large closet for storage; the second smaller bedroom has a queen size bed, closet, and an office nook in the event you want to “work from home”.
The open concept living area faces the water and features a seating area with a large adjustable flatscreen TV and a gas indoor/outdoor fireplace, a dining area, and a fully stocked kitchen with custom cabinetry and sleek European appliances. A door from the living area leads to a spacious outdoor deck with a comfy sectional sofa and two rocking chairs where you can enjoy nature and the indoor/outdoor fireplace. Stairs from the deck lead to the backyard, which has a wood burning fire pit and Adirondack chairs for a more rustic waterside experience.
We love Water's Edge Cottage and hope you will too -- but please consider the following:
The cottage sleeps four, but the second bedroom is cozy. The focus will surely be on the amazing water views, so if you are a party of three or four willing to share a relatively small (but well designed) footprint, we think you’ll love it!
The cottage is in a quiet rural setting with neighbors on either side of the house, a sprawling farm in the front, and the Potomac in the back. We've screened the outdoor deck for added privacy.
The cottage is squarely within a critical environmental area because it is directly on water that leads to the Chesapeake Bay. It has a (new) well and septic system, though you will need to be careful about what gets put into the septic system (no grease, coffee grounds, egg shells etc.) and just generally be mindful of water usage.
“Riprap” (large rocks that descend about 6 feet from the yard to the water below) can make direct water access a bit challenging. There is an easier access point just down the street (reserved for homeowners and guests) and we’re happy to provide the details for those bringing kayaks, tubes etc.

About the host
Hosted by Victor D.

We have lived in the Washington DC area most of our adult lives.
We stumbled across St. Mary's County in 2005 as we were looking for waterfront property (our must haves: within 2 hours of DC and no Bay Bridge traffic) and are so glad we did. We think the area is a hidden gem -- incredible waterfront, beautiful farmland, and a small town nearby (Leonardtown) which has one of the few remaining town squares from Maryland's provincial period.

Why they chose this property
Our cottage is surrounded by farms and water; our street contains roughly 15 to 20 small homes, many of which (ours included!) were built as fishing cabins in the 1930s and 1940s. The neighborhood is quiet; neighbors are friendly.
What makes this property unique
We think the cottage's proximity to the water and unobstructed Potomac views make it one of a kind. In addition, the cottage faces south towards one of the few large west-to-east flowing stretches of water along the east coast -- which means we enjoy waterfront sunrises and sunsets (and we've been to a lot of places, and firmly believe our sunsets are among the best). If you are like us and find the looking out onto the water peaceful and relaxing, you'll love Water's Edge Cottage.
