We had a wonderful time at Pyne Cove Cottage. The cottage was clean, beautiful and peaceful. When we weren't out on adventures, we cooked, made a fire and relaxed in the blissful setting. We loved the nearby hikes and restaurants. Can't recommend enough.
The property and house was gorgeous, very clean, had everything we needed, it is very secluded but close to everything.I would definitely book again, it was a great vacation!
The cabin was just as it was portrayed and very clean and comfortable. The hosts were very communicative and helpful regarding local activities and hikes. My wife and I have been coming to Schoodic and the surrounding area since we were in our 20s (now in our 60s) and it brought back great memories to stay here. Great property and great area with lots to do within 20 minutes.
This was a clean, comfortable cabin on a beautiful tidal cove. It was very private, but only a few minutes from a town. One rainy evening it got quite chilly, but the heated floors warmed us up nicely. The combination of modern conveniences and coastal privacy in the woods make this one of the best rentals we've been lucky enough to find.
What a wonderful place to stay. We loved this cottage and could tell that the owners put a lot of love into it. It is a spectacular home in a very private location. Close to nature and all the owners recommendations for hikes and places to visit were spot on. Great communication with the owners. They were very quick to respond to any questions we had. Would love to stay here again in the future.
Beautiful house close to iconic down east shoreline
We had a great week. The house is very comfortable. The hosts were very attentive. The Surrounding area is beautiful.
Seeing the cove drain out at low tide took a little getting used to but at high tide we saw the seal. Nearby hikes were amazing. We did them at all tides and all weather.
The property is even nicer than it looks in the pictures! Our family of four was very comfortable here and found plenty to do without heading to Bar Harbor/Mount Desert Island once! The owners were quick in responding to inquiries leading up to our stay. We had a great week!
Private, secluded from the road, nestled in an abundance of firs and vegetation. Beautiful place with great view of the sea water cove. Beds are very comfortable, house is well furnished, nicely decorated, and very clean. We truly enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

Beautiful cabin and lovely cove view
This cabin was the perfect size for our family of three. Comfy furnishings and fantastic view. Close to great walks and delicious seafood. We would love to come back someday!
Serene, beautiful views away from the tourist bustle
We really enjoyed our stay! The views were gorgeous and it was so peaceful. We hiked in Petit Mannan and Pigeon Hill, we made excursions into Acadia National Park, Saint Stephen, New Brunswick Canada, and Roque Bluffs. Vasquez Mexican Takeout was delicious.
Two weeks wasn’t enough! We loved the cottage and the property and the energy of the whole space. Our dog was adamant about staying but alas, we hope to visit again. Thanks for a much needed respite in beautiful Maine.
What a gem! We had a wonderful stay at Pyne Cove Cottage. It is the perfect place to unplug and unwind. The house was clean and well stocked. We were able to find plenty to keep us busy in the area.
This cottage was spacious and in a peaceful location. All the furniture was super comfy and the different rooms were all very well planned and well oriented. The outside had a little grass landing to play outdoor games. The firepit and the view from the front door was lovely. Everyone in the family including our pup enjoyed staying there very much.
As advertised, the cabin was fully stocked and very comfortable. The recommended hiking trails and beach in the area from the cottage were great for us - the hikes had astonishing views and the wild blueberries were ready for the picking. Can’t say enough about those scenic Atlantic views! Favs Schoodic Point and Grindstone. Thank you so much for our pleasant stay.
Cottage is in a great location!! An hour in either direction and so many towns, trails, sites and activities to do. And of course, Acadia National Park. At the end of the day it was nice to go back to cottage which is in a quiet waterfront cove.
Hosts Michael and Sheila are very responsive and easy to communicate with. The cottage is so well taken care of and nice little touches that make it cozy and comfortable. We will definitely try to stay here again.

Pyne Cove Cottage was a great place to unwind and relax.
The Cottage was warm and inviting and included pretty much everything we needed to enjoy our week's stay. After a bit of an issue checking in the remainder of our stay was great. Close enough to Acadia and Bar Harbor, yet far enough away to be out of the mainstream traffic. Sitting around the campfire and star gazing was a highlight as well as our last night dinner of a lobster, steamer, sausage and corn boil. Yum!
We were welcomed with a gift bag containing coffee and blueberry jam, a host of helpful information and a clean well appointed cabin tucked in the woods and overlooking the water. Michael was very helpful and responsive to our questions. While the weather was less than perfect, we managed to take some wonderful hikes on trails right down the road!! The cabin is very comfortable and welcoming. Thanks for a great stay!
This was a wonderful place to stay. A lot of thought went into the design and furnishings of the house itself and the outdoor spaces. Between swimming in the cove and running around in the woods our dog had the best week of his life! The immediate area is beautiful, multiple hikes on the peninsula without a soul around. For a rural area we were please to find multiple good dining options and a full-ish sized grocery store within 10 minutes. Getting to the Schoodic peninsula wasn't a long drive, we also made excursions to Mount Desert Island and Camopbello Island. We highly recommend!
We stayed at the Pyne Cove cottage for a week. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The info provided at the house as full of good tips. The house was well provisioned and comfortable. Great beds! Ray Carbone the sculptor was a great find! The cove is tidal so pretty much inaccessible to kayaks or swimming if the tide isn’t high. There is another water access point close by, but we just did more hiking. The Sunrise on Pigeon hill is spectacular!
This cottage was perfect in every way for our exploration of Acadia and Down East Maine! My husband and I took our twelve-year-old granddaughter to her choice of National Parks, and Acadia was the winnner!
The location of Pyne Cove Cottage enabled us to access Schoodic Peninsula as well as Bar Harbor and then retreat to our quiet cottage for an evening of movies, puzzles, lobster and s'mores. . . . the attention to every detail, the tasteful choices of decor, smartly edited for Down East flavor without the kitsch, the well-stocked spice drawer—and Pride and Prejudice film to boot (our granddaughter's favorite book!) It could not have been better! These are memories of a lifetime. We are so happy. . . . thank you, Michael!
My husband and I and Alfie, our 9-month old golden retriever pup, thoroughly enjoyed our five-day stay in Michael and Sheila’s lovely Pyne Cove Cottage. So comfortably furnished and lacking nothing in household equipment, it was a wonderful Downeast retreat in quiet, laid-back Steuben. Waking up to a beautiful view of the cove through the pine trees set the tone for explorations of Petit Manon Wildlife Preserve, Schoodic Peninsula (still our favorite Downeast location), Eastport, Jasper Beach, community garden in Millbridge, and more. Favorite places for food: Chipman’s Wharf for lobsters (cooked for us to bring home) and steamers, Lunch on the Wharf in Corea, the food truck in Millbridge, and J.M. Gerrish for great breakfast and lunch in Winter Harbor. For anyone looking for an off-the-beaten path yet accessible to all of the attractions of Downeast (including Acadia if you’re not deterred by the crowds) location, we highly recommend Pyne Cove Cottage. Thanks, Sheila and Michael for our memorable stay there.

Relaxing beautiful home to stay and enjoy nature, hiking, and Downeast Maine
Pyne Cove Cottage is a beautiful place to disconnect from rigors and tech of life. Enjoyed kayaking and swimming in Pyne Cove. Enjoyed exploring Schoodic Peninsula, Prospect and Winter Harbor. Whether you want to spend the day playing games on the porch, roasting marshmallows over the fire pit, reading a book, or watching a movie, Pyne Cove Cottage has it all. While Bar Harbor is great, it has gotten overly commercialized in the 13 years since we visited. We were so glad to stay in Steuben and travel a little further to make a day at Acadia National Park. If people have the chance to take the Katie Grace ...you can ferry over to Bar Harbor round trip for the day in less time and get a great nature tour while you are at it. We would definitely spend time at Pyne Cove Cottage again. There are many more places to hike and explore around Pigeon Hill and the local towns and villages. Thank you for the hospitality and beautiful vacation home.
The cottage is adorable and is situated in a beautiful, peaceful location. It is super quiet with no interference from neighbors or traffic. Unfortunately, the cottage was not quite as clean as we are accustomed to. The appliances needed a good wiping, the shower was a little “hairy” and the bathroom had a faint urine smell, maybe from the floor around it? We kept the window open which helped. There was perishable food (open containers of yogurt, cream cheese & ice cream) left in the freezer & refrigerator, some of which we threw away. I respect the fact that each person is supposed to think about the next when leaving, but ultimately the housekeeping responsibilities fall to the property owner or manager. All this being said, after a little cleaning of our own, we did have a wonderful week and enjoyed the quiet moments with our granddaughter. Although uncomfortable to write, this is an honest review provided only to improve the experience for the next person.
Pyne Cove Cottage was perfect for us and exactly what we were looking for - a private, picturesque place on the water that was family and pet friendly. The cottage is beautiful, comfortable, and well-stocked with of all the essentials (and more). The cottage is tucked into a pine forest with a great view of the water from the front rooms. We brought our kayaks and enjoyed getting out on the water as the tide came in; we were thrilled to see bald eagles flying overhead. Milbridge was a quick 10 minute drive, where we found groceries, seafood, a gift shop and a beautiful community garden. The hiking trail and beach just a few minutes down the road from the cottage were great for us - the hike had amazing views at the top and wild blueberries, ready for the picking. Beautiful Schoodic Point is also just a short ~ 20 minute drive away. All in all, we throughly enjoyed our stay - a truly recharging time.
Our thanks to the hosts, Mike and Sheila for being so kind, helpful, and accommodating. It was very easy to communicate with them and they offered great recommendations that made our stay extra enjoyable.

About the host
Hosted by Michael & Sheila
Michael is a Financial Advisor and Sheila is a Critical Care Nurse. We live in the Seacoast of New Hampshire. We first discovered the area after a weekend trip to Bar Harbor. We loved Bar Harbor and Acadia but also wanted a quieter area to relax and enjoy so we looked a little further north and found the quaint village of Steuben and our Pyne Cove piece of land. We built our dream cottage in 2011 and included all the features and amenities for a comfortable stay any time of year! It was a wonderful project that we put many personal touches in that we hope you will also enjoy! Details include rock knobs on our cabinets that we made from stones collected at the beach down the road. The view of Pyne Cove and the surrounding woodlands from every window lets you know that you are Downeast!
Why they chose this property
The Cottage is located just down the road from Pigeon Hill that offers panoramic views after a 15 minute easy hike to the top. Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge is also just down the road and has several hiking paths to some of the most beautiful scenery on the Maine coast. Only 45 minutes to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, the location is ideal for day trips. Campobello Island, President Roosevelt's summer refuge, is a short day trip away to New Brunswick, Canada. This is an ideal setting for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers! But you can also just relax and enjoy the natural beauty all around.
What makes this property unique
We searched several pieces of property before we decided to purchase this 3 acre piece of land on a pristine cove and then build our dream cottage. The long view down the cove, beautiful woodlands, and brook that runs into the cove captured what we were looking for in a vacation home. We custom built the cottage to be comfortable and easy to maintain. The cottage is also located only 5 miles from the town of Milbridge that offers a great restaurant, grocery store, banking and several other services.
