The house was very clean, nicely decorated without being cluttered, and it wasn't stocked with garage sale leftovers. We have rented houses from Austin to Marco Island to Hilton Head, and this was one of our favorites.We will be back.

We love the Sparrows Nest and keep coming back because the place is awesome and the host is super. I can't say enough great thing about both. Enjoyed it so much. Squirrels and local wildlife will pay you a visit and hang out with you. Good fun.

2 day stop over

We stayed at the Sparrows Nest as a stop over point for a longer trip. This is by far the best VRBO experience we've had. The house was beautiful, set amongst trees so we could bird watch from the living room. The amenities in the house were on par with a 4 star hotel as well. We couldnt have been happier.

Most Impressive Accommodations and Hospitality!

The Sparrows Next was absolutely the most wonderful stay. The hospitality is unmatched to any accommodations that I have ever stayed. From the welcome bottle of wine, to snacks and treats, to all toiletries provided! They really outdid themselves thinking of everything to make a stay welcoming and relaxing. The home was very clean, the linens luxurious, and the design features are something to consider in your own home. Well done! We will be back to stay again!

Sparrow's Nest Christmas Stay

My family and I stayed for 4 days/3 nights. Sparrows Nest was an awesome stay for our family. Very quiet and clean home. Owners provided a well stocked home for the stay and we were very pleased. We shared this place with our extended family to host our 2024 Christmas party. Owners were very friendly and responded to all questions we had. We will be booking for future stays in Charleston WV.

Awesome property!

I have stayed in a lot of rentals and this is one of the best ever. The house is charming and simply delightful. We were warmly welcomed by the owner with a bottle of wine and basket of treats, including dog biscuits for our dog! The house is very well-appointed—the owner has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Beautiful dish and glassware in the kitchen—lovely details in the bathrooms—a cozy living area with games and info about the area—no details were overlooked. I can’t wait to stay here again! It is a fabulous place!

We came for work for the week. Thi home was cute and cozy and very pet friendly! Thry had dog bowls, sheets to put on the furniture, utility towles near the door to wipe paws. If you bypass this property, you are making a HUGE mistake! It is literally an oasis in WV. The host is the bomb too! I would stay there over ANY motel/hotel. There’s a grocery store around the corner so you can prepare anything you want in the awesome kitchen. Book today!

I would Highly recommend

This home was a perfect place to rest and refresh! It was exceptionally clean and well appointed. It was nicely decorated and made you feel comfortable and at home. I felt pampered wth the luxurious towels, bed linens and beautiful bathrooms. The kitchenware is well stocked for cooking. The hosts go the extra mile with beverages, and snacks. I would highly recommend it for people staying in the Charleston area.

Amazing experience

From opening the door the first time until closing it to leave, I felt completely appreciated. We had a personalized sign welcoming us, dog treats for our pup, goodies, and even toothbrushes and toothpaste if we had forgotten ours. They even had thought about phone chargers. We will be back!!! Such a relaxing and quiet spot too!

Couldn’t have asked for more

My wife and I stayed here with our dog for a get away weekend in Charleston. This VRBO is the best one we’ve stayed at by far. Everything you can think of is provided including super soft bedding, towels, and dog treats. Nothing but quality and quantity provided. JD was super helpful, long story short we got locked out very late around 2 am and knocked on a neighbors door who was very nice and then contacted JD who quickly responded and cheerfully helped us get back in. Awesome hospitality and service. Great location, Coonskin park is right around the corner which our dog loved. We will no question be back when staying in the Charleston area. You won’t regret!

Last minute/Unexpected Pleasure

We were on a long road trip and decided at the last minute to overnight in Charleston, WV. It was 5 P and the VRBO app would not allow me to investigate options for that night. We had our dog with us and preferred not to go to a hotel. So I looked at next night availability and messaged the owner, JD, to see if he would take us at this late time. JD responded within 5 min ( maybe less) with a resounding YES and in an hour we were on their doorstep! I really didn’t look closely at the pictures on the website until afterwards- they don’t accurately reflect how beautiful or perfect this place is! It is amazing!! Everything was top notch from the moment we opened the door to see a bottle of wine next to a personalized welcome note. JD had things set up for our dog, there were snacks, the cupboards had spices, and there were cooking items that helped make a small dinner. The bed and furniture were very comfortable, the towels were luxurious. The only thing I didn’t pick up on was this is an upstairs apartment with outdoor stairs and a beautiful wrap around porch. It turned out to be absolutely fine and there are photos to support this. But, like I said, I didn’t look that closely. We actually discussed returning to the area to vacation JUST based on this beautiful home and the lovely WV magazines JD had on the coffee table that I leafed through while sitting outside on that porch, wrapped in a blanket. Thanks JD!!

This was by far one of the Best VRBO's that I have stayed in. Great location, very private.You walk in the door and your are greeted with a wonderful dining room/kitchen and living room. The kitchen has everything we needed and more. Snacks, coffee, wine - Absolutely a wonderful surprise and to no surprise the bedrooms and bathroom were also fantastic. This place was very clean and offered a home away from home vibe. We brought our dog and they had accommodations for him as well.To sum it up WONDERFUL!

Had an out of State family wedding to attend in the area there and didn't want the typical hotel stay. Went out on a limb and secured our first ever Vrbo. Everything was just perfect. JD Gandee grew up in Clendenin, about 18 miles away from the Sparrows Nest. After living in several different states, he came home with wife Karen. Karen Gandee spent most of her life in Southern Florida. The first time she visited Wild, Wonderful, West Virginia, she was in love (not only with her husband)! We have now lived in WV since 2012. It is our forever home. We built the Sparrows Nest near our home for two basic reasons: One is so that our children and their families, who live in MD, can come and visit the grandparents whenever they want to, and they have a wonderful, roomy, comfortable place to stay. Second is our desire to share the beautiful and amazing West Virginia with as many folks as possible. We are proud of our state. It truly is Almost Heaven.

Why they chose this property

The neighborhood is quiet. The Nest is at the end of the street, so there is no through traffic at all. The view is really great from the huge deck. There has been no crime reported on Credemont, the hill here, for anyone's remembrance. It's a great place to live, and a great place to come and relax. Relax around the fire pit (we supply the wood and kindling), and roast a hot dog or make some S'mores. Bring your dog and take a leisurely walk or have a game of fetch in our large yard (the only true flat plat on the entire hill).

What makes this property unique

There are several reasons to stay at the Sparrows Nest. First, you have great hosts who have never hosted before, but are very eager to please! We have custom built this beautiful home with you in mind. The rooms are spacious, not cramped. The towels, bedding, and toilet paper are soft. You will dig your toes into the amazing bathroom rugs. I (JD) built much of the Sparrows Nest with my own two hands, and Karen did all of the designing from paint colors to rugs, dishes, and placement of furniture. You will feel this when you recline in the leather sofa, throw a blanket over you, and doze off to the huge Smart TV. You will see the sun stream through the trees and into each room. Sunrises and Sunsets are equally striking on opposite hillsides. Relax, rest, and recharge. The nest is a wonderful place to roost. Welcome.
