Light-filled cabin- 2 bed 2bath- beautiful hot tub for stargazing. SNP-hiking!
Located 1300 ft up the mountain, the Tumnus house is the perfect escape. The 2 bed/2 bath cabin will be filled with light and ready for relaxation. Located on our 68 acre farmstead with bees, goats, ducks, chickens, and pigs, nature and adventure are just out your door. We offer seasonal farm tours ( and year round DIY tours) and you can hike the numerous trails on property as well as access Shenandoah back country with a 10 min walk. The seasonal pool and year round hot tub offer the much needed relaxation ( and star gazing) that we all need to be able to unwind. This is the perfect retreat from the city and it is no wonder we have people come back year after year. Don't forget to order your farm products before arrival ( via our website) and enjoy a campfire in the private firepit! We do not allow parties or pets due to it being a working property. Thanks so much and looking forward to hosting you!

About the host
Hosted by Madi Ledford
Whitt is a retired executive Chef who has worked in all types of hospitality environments for 35 years. Martha, is a retired educator. Managing a small country Inn and restaurant for 12 of those years has given us ample experience to create and manage our unique Yurt as well as our other lodgings. My family and I are in process of creating a self supporting and sustainable farm homestead and lodgings and we offer welcome to one and all. In addition to our enterprises we are grateful stewards of nearly 60 acres of spectacular mountain land, most of which is as undisturbed as possible with an easily accessible nature trail winding throughout the property. As a working farm we also have a multitude of gentle critters and an abundance of home grown foods. Whitt grew up in Hawaii and knows well about relaxing and enjoying life and all it has to offer, and believe we have created a place where everyone can share in the same.
Martha grew up in Bethesda, a suburb just outside of DC and spent every possible moment at Cair Paravel. Now retired from teaching and educational administration I spend my days at the farm or volunteering the the Virginia Master Naturalists.
Other folks you may see on the farm are Madi, Grant, Mark and Ruth. Madi and Grant work with the animals and gardens. Mark is the master of the trails and you may see Ruth running.
Looking forward to hosting you.
Why they chose this property
We chose this neighborhood because of the amazing mountains! Hiking and adventuring around in the year round beauty of the Blue Ridge is what drew us up to the mountains and out of the city. We love how quite it is at night, but also how convenient the location is to exploring the surrounding cities and countrysides. We cannot imagine living anywhere else. The proximity to Shenandoah National Park makes everyday an adventure ( especially for seeing wildlife and birds!)
What makes this property unique
Welcome to a working farmstead! We have bees, and goats, and chickens, and pigs, and dogs. It is always magical to hear the roosters call in the morning and the dogs protect at night. The unique nature of farming on a mountain really make your stay at Tumnus house one to remember. The house itself has salvaged floors from an old John Deere factory and 4 skylights to bring in light even on the darkest of winter days. The ample space for games and cooking makes it easy to host families and make memories. Our favorite thing is the amazing water straight from the tap! Hiking right out your front door and walking on paths to the park make it so you never have to drive to have an adventure.
